God I’m going to miss this man’s incredible approach. Nicko’s irreplaceable. He will always be THE Iron Maiden drummer for me. God bless you Nicko, thank you for all the years of inspiring work!
Of all the impressive things we can list about Nicko....surely one of the most impressive is his ability to not accidentally hit that ride cymbal in its current position. Impressive indeed. :)
I love that he raised his throne and lowered the toms and cymbals. I used to always cringe at watching how low he sat, but it's a testament to always being willing to learn and grow. He's one of the goats
In concerts I was always disappointed at how low he sat. I like watching drummers' techniques (my dad was a jazz drummer and he told me about various drumming skills). When I met Nicko in 2005, I asked him why he was seated so low. He said it was because the other band members were jealous of his good looks so he needed to be unseen behind his drum kit! Great drummer and personality.
I will take his advice not only for drummers but also for bass players, guitar players or whatever it may be... Bless you, Nicko! Greetings from Lisboa, Portugal
An amazingly graceful wonderful player! We got to see him on the Powerslave tour in 1985. One of the things that still mystifies me is how he can play on the two toms where that ride cymbal is!! God bless you Nicko!
This man is an inspiration for all beginners and professionals alike. Excellent professional and even better human being always with a smile and a kind word. What's not to love about Nicko?
Nicko that drum kit has to be the most beautiful drum kit ever around. And you have to be definitely in the TOP 5 Drummers in the world. Happy Retirement Buddy - but i thing you'll be back some day.
Thanks for the great video! Nicko has been and is my all time idol for drumming. Best metal drummer of all time in my opinion. Simple but very rhythmic technique suitable best for the band. Love also his taste of drum set how they should look and sound - quite an apposite for style is now in fashion
I love playing where eagles dare nicko! I was getting the beat wrong, but now I seen how you do it, I...well I get it. I only play traditional drumsticks SOMETIMES on slow easy songs because I have problems going around the toms, but I always used matched. I use a lovely cheap ludwig 6 piece kit with remo emperor heads on top and silentstrokes on the bottoms because I love that old fashioned 70's open bottom sound. When I was 10, I was tapping on everything. Once I tapped on the back of my dad's headrest in the car and he said "stop with that stupid music!"😅 it happened so many times! Those cushions had bounce! Appreciate your advice greatly!🥁
Over the years both Neil Peart and Nikko have altered Their drum layout because of the body arms and legs take a pounding 3hour shows 180 dates 30 years of drumming !! Great Advice from a legend !!
Yeah, play for the music/band and not for yourself or for the drums' sake. Don't really agree with the left/right hand starting of fills, because in my experience you can be more versatile if you practice both.
pillow practice: "if your right handed start with your left hand, if your left handed, start with your right hand". Huh? I don't get that, don't do that, but i've only been playing 57 years...
I know, all Maiden fans here. I was a Maiden fan myself but I have to state that McBrian never filled the footsteps of Clive. His playing lacks creativity.
God I’m going to miss this man’s incredible approach. Nicko’s irreplaceable. He will always be THE Iron Maiden drummer for me. God bless you Nicko, thank you for all the years of inspiring work!
It doesn't matter if you've been playing for 30 years or 30 minutes, his advice is great for any drummer
Some of the best advice any drummer could ever give! Thanks Nicko, and happy retirement. God Bless 🙏🏼☀️
This man is one of the greatest to walk the earth, has time for everybody and always has a smile on his face, a true legend.
I agree. I was lucky to meet him. He was very nice, and funny too.
Nicko speaks from the heart, and as such gives the most relevant and inspiring advice.
Ergonomics is critical for longevity as a drummer. This is great. I have struggled with how to setup a big kit too. It is not easy.
How could anyone not like Nicko the man is larger than life
This might be the best drumming interview ever. I feel like I was blessed to hear a drumming elder’s lifetime of percussive wisdom.
Happy birthday Nicko! 🥁🤘🎂
If Nicko made a video of him breaking down every maiden song and it was 20 hours long.......I'd likely watch the whole thing.
Of all the impressive things we can list about Nicko....surely one of the most impressive is his ability to not accidentally hit that ride cymbal in its current position. Impressive indeed. :)
This Man is a living Legend... MUST absolutely go to Drumeo
This was genuinely fascinating to watch… he got sooo sidetracked, yet remained amazingly informative throughout. Wow! Cheers sir

I’m not a drummer- why is it cringeworthy that he sits low??
@stitcha123 because of spinal compression etc
Playing metal without double pedal or double kicks is TIGHT :) Also great advices !!
The Wicker Man live was an experience
I will take his advice not only for drummers but also for bass players, guitar players or whatever it may be... Bless you, Nicko! Greetings from Lisboa, Portugal
Really appreciate Nicko's prospective. You can tell he really understands music universally.
He is a great guy from everything I have seen of him- and a great talent.
Metal world and not only will miss this drummer legend! Up the Irons too from Portugal!
Nicko we will miss you
Te vamos a extrañar

This man is soooooooo much more talented than today's bazillion note metal players with nothing to say. One of my favorite metal drummers, ever.
I was NOT expecting to see his skippies at 8:24 LOL Nicko is Goated 😂
* skivvies 😉
All the best to the master. Much love on your birthday. Thank you for the inspiration through the years!
Thank You Nicko 🥰
Appreciate the knowledge of MD Iron Maiden 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾

How the hell do you hit those 2 toms with that big ride cymbal in the way,?
Its not in the way for him I guess, there are still 3/4 of the head left to strike.
Tbh he doesn’t use those toms often
Happy birthday 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Nicko is the best. Hilarious and an incredible drummer!
Thanks Mates, top notch lesson and drummer ! Definitely a killer band. Bless you….. Michael
LOVE Nicko!! Good to see him back doing what he loves after the stroke
This was recorded years ago.
much love to Nicko!
Us ol folks only know how great this is.
Makes one pedal sound like two. 💪 greetings from Portugal, nicko.🤘
Thank You Nicko!!!!!
DPA 4099 on toms, Telefunken M81 low profile on snare top and Shure SM57 on snare bottom it looks like
Legend!!! Saw him with the STREETWALKERS...
Lovely man and bona fide LEGEND!!
love this guy! always inspiration!
at 8:26 starts one if not the most glorious moments in the history of drum videos. This guy is my hero!
11:05 SERIOUSLY?! The drumming in Maiden's some of the most dynamic dependent drumming in all of metal!
Great Nicko, God bless you 🤟👏👏👏
Best Drummer ever!
Niko is a dope human!
Personality of the beast.
Now that was a lesson.
wonderful. really enjoyed this. though not a drummer. what a nice dude.

All his great little tips add up! 9:52
Legend.
This is awesome Nicko! Keep Rockin' hard gavna 🤘🤘
Nice 1 Thank you for tips,,
Man I love this guy. Totally down to earth
Nico genio!
The Position of the Cybales seems stranger. How do you play the Toms under the cymbales?
What a nice and skllfull person
Never understood how that ride cymbal doesn’t bounce off the tom rims and heads
See when he turns that cymbal at 4:00 how it appears to be quite tight on its stand? _That's_ why it doesn't make contact with the toms below! 🙂
Love the list you've presented in this video.
I've never heard of Maison Guidry 😮
Another drummer I love to follow is Yoni Madar. Go check him out
Excelente
great!
Sick💥❤️✅
I think after all these years Nicko is actually turning into Eddie!
🙏🙏🙏OLD AND VISE AND YOUNG!!! 🙏🙏🙏
Over the years both Neil Peart and Nikko have altered Their drum layout because of the body arms and legs take a pounding 3hour shows 180 dates 30 years of drumming !! Great Advice from a legend !!
This is 25K worth of information
Bello/Magnifico.🎂✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️😱
I about flipped a car when he started talking about Sonor... Then I realized the this is from 2019..
Glad to see you looking in rude health
Why is his ride symbol there?
Primeiro batera que comecei a acompanhar logo no meu início em 1995. Até hoje admiro demais e continuo aprendendo demais! UP Niko!
"yeah we've got the club kit set up"
🤝😎❤ i l🥰ve You NICKO...
My forever DRUM BR😎THER IN JESUS!! 🤟😇✝🔝🥁🥁❤❤🎵🎵🎶🎵🎵🎶💞💫✨💞💫✨
Nicko your stool should have been higher than that YEARS ago!
Its hilarious how SNOBBY people get about Trad Grip when it was ONLY made up to solve a stupid problem .
Your Nicko Mcbrain, why don,t you have custom drum stick made you know have one stick that don't have a tip
Yeah, play for the music/band and not for yourself or for the drums' sake. Don't really agree with the left/right hand starting of fills, because in my experience you can be more versatile if you practice both.
i skipped and saw him pull his pants down what is going on
29:09 anybody want to tell him they make sticks with dual butt-ends? lol
pillow practice: "if your right handed start with your left hand, if your left handed, start with your right hand". Huh? I don't get that, don't do that, but i've only been playing 57 years...
