    For the first time I actually spent hours just to learn the basic of Blender. I never really got into it because I found it hard, but now I actually understand the basic of it and are willing to proceed further. Love it so far

      Once you get the basics of Blender it is very exciting because at that point you can create so many things! You never get done learning new things in Blender. But that just opens even more creation opportunities. I am a slow learner. It took me a long time to learn Blender but now I am addicted!

    Thank you so much for providing a brilliant tutorial that has allowed me to help my 12 year old son, who wants to move on to computer based animation, from camera based animation. So many Blender TH-camrs get carried away with proving how much they know... it was a breath of fresh air to watch yours (many times!). We are now able to work out the principles and have managed to create several animated slugs! Thanks again.

    There is a stupid mistake that I was making ,and that is because he showed something else, and said something else.
    I was parenting the bones to the mesh.
    You have to parent the mesh to the bones.
    I believe that it is selected in the wrong order.
    I really hope that this is the case for everybody here, as it is really frustrating

      He selected the mesh then selected the armature. He did as he said and that s the correct way. 😊

    • @CertifiedDoc
      @CertifiedDoc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When parenting, the selected objects are parented to the active object. The active object is highlighted differently than the others, and is normally the last one you select. So, like the video shows, you select the mesh, followed by the armature.
      Also, you'll know if you selected them in the right order because the armature deform options won't appear at all unless you do.

    • @markcheng
      @markcheng ปีที่แล้ว

      8:09 I agree that this point was the toughest to grasp because he went a little fast for beginners. It’s because what he says and what he does is just a half second apart. But he is saying it correctly- you want the mesh to follow what the armature does so the latter is the parent…

  • @MarioMario9000100
    @MarioMario9000100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    for anyone not getting the armature to affect the mesh (because it isn't mentioned in the video) you have to select the mesh and then the armature in object mode after that

    This doesn't work in Blender 2.83 - there is no option to connect the bones, and when entering pose mode the mesh does not move.

    • @ololo9283
      @ololo9283 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Edit: I also could not get my character to move in Pose mode. However, after doing some searching, this is what I found resolved the issue -- starting from right before you parent the armature to the mesh:
      (1) Select the mesh then the armature and then right-click and go to Parent in the menu
      (2) Go to Armature Deform >> select With Automatic Weights
      (3) Select only the mesh and go to the Modifiers panel, and Add the modifier called "Armature"
      (4) For the Armature modifier's "Object" setting, pick your armature. Then, check on the option called "Bone Envelopes".
      (5) Now, select your armature, switch to Pose Mode, and when you rotate the armature etc. your parent mesh will react to it

      Download the Animation Fundamentals Rigs v1.0 file from the link in the description. Unzip that folder somewhere (and remember where). Open Blender with the basic scene with the cube in it. Go to File --> Append to get a file dialog. Browse to the Animation Fundamentals Rigs v1.0 folder (unzipped earlier), and select the sky.blend file. Press "Append" in the lower right of the dialog to get a list of subfolders, such as Action, Armature, Brush, Camera, Collection, .... Select Collection and open it by double-clicking or pressing "Append" again. Select "Sky_original", and press "Append". The file dialog will close and the character model will appear. Note: It might be inside the initial cube, so hide the cube to see the character model.

    I have an armature issue. I am using collada files for models and stuff because they are a lot more compact and transfer all material data from one software to the next. but when i try to add in more bones to the armature, i have to parent them again, and the bone weight system fails. i am trying to add bones to the buttox of a character so i can apply the spring bone animation for jiggle effects, but every time i do, there is this constant problem. I keep aligning the bones with the character mesh to try and make them symmetrical to the mesh, but nothing works. how do i fix this?

    I feel like I'm following along just fine. Then we get to the part where we are in pose mode, and I am unable to move the bones at all. I'm using mac with a magic mouse. Could this be why?

    man the character rig on link looks different,
    the ones on tutorial at 02:15 looks more plain than the download link...
    idk.. i just learn this today,
    so i was thinking to remove all armature that already exist on the character rig then continue the tutorial

    This video was fantastic! As a Blender User I learned a lot and am now ready to rig up my first character. I also subbed under JL Animation Studios. Cheers!

    08:08 the option didn't show up for me (I'm on 3.4.1), so I had to go to Object>Parent>Armature Deform>With Automatic Weights in the top left menu.

    So I have a character with weights and an armature. Now I want a mesh with totally different proportions to use that same armature. Can I just delete all the groups for the second mesh and delete that armature and put the armature I want onto the new mesh and move the bones around to the correct spots on the mesh then re-parent it? I tried transferring weights tool but the new mesh never deformed correctly

    enabling ads and monetizing means another developer or three every year. I'm sure the community is happy to sit through an ad watch a playlist everyday so we can get more developers.

    why are the bones invisible? i literally just started learning how to rig characters and they're completely invisible. why is this the default?

    • @MrMoon-hy6pn
      @MrMoon-hy6pn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They shouldn't be invisible by default. Unless you mean the bones are obscured by a mesh.
      In that case go to the armature settings and check "in front" in viewport display
