    8:08 - If you go to the "Face Unlock" settings, there's a "Skip lock screen" setting. When turned on, you don't have to interact with the device to unlock it
    8:15 - if you go to the "Lock screen" settings, there's a "Always show time and info" setting (aka always on display). When turned on, you don't have to wake the device to use the fingerprint reader
    8:22 - On the "Lock screen" settings, there's a "Lift to check phone" setting that needs to be turned on which may not be on by default

      Sadly this is not true. Longer software updates mean that it will retain its value for much longer so even if you find a refurbished or used one in a year or 2, used pixel phones just don't normally have cheap prices in the market unlike samsungs which in 3 years of time, loose more than 70% of their original value. Consider the pixel 5 or more valid, the pixel 6 which is still around 400 usd to 550 usd and I really doubt you will find one for 400 usd. Can use fingerprint if I don't plan on lifting it. To use fingerprint unlock, if you do a quick tap on the sensor area then press your finger, it unlocks if you have AOD off. You can set the phone to auto unlock when you have face recognition turned on. It's honestly as quick as iPhone. It seems to work just as fast in relatively low light as well. You eventually learn when it'll be too dark for it and just switch to using your fingerprint. It's a pretty great implementation.

    • @MekKaiver
      @MekKaiver 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The definition 'relatively low light' is always interesting ;) I have both the Pixel 8 Pro and 14 Pro, and I must say Apple's Face ID is in a different universe. For instance, in a 'dim' hallway in my house where there's still enough light to be able to read a book, Google Face Unlock fails and I have to use fingerprint. It's that tipping point which makes it annoying imho. It doesn't work with sunglasses either. The 14 Pro unlocks in total darkness or with me having sunglasses on, 100% faultless. But to be fair, both systems are so different technologically that it's probably a bit unfair to compare them. Pixel 8 Pro is a great phone though, really like it!

    • @nikc1313
      @nikc1313 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@MekKaiver without doubt the iPhone is far superior technologically but then requires the big pill cutout so it's a trade-off. The pixel is definitely a strong second place. • @xenofastiq
      @xenofastiq 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What exactly is "relatively low light" though? Many people would still take that to think it would have to be very noticeably dark to start failing, but in my experience so far, even after setting up face unlock in about normal lighting, it fails in lighting conditions that I feel should work

    • @nikc1313
      @nikc1313 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@xenofastiq mine seems to work in pretty dim indoor light. As long as there's a lamp on somewhere in the room it seems to work just as quickly as in day light. Pretty much only time it doesn't work is if I'm outside in the dark or after lights go out in bed and I know to use the fingerprint scanner then.

    • @Rio-Play
      @Rio-Play 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@MekKaiverThis is due to the iPhone actually having dedicated IR sensors ("Dot Projector") that effectively shoots out a a whole lot of IR beams at your face to detect the depth and contours of your face. So technically, your face is being lighted very well and with high precision because of the varying lengths of the IR light streams. You just can't see them or will barely see them because they are just outside of the typical human viewable light spectrum.

Most thermal cameras tend to use emissivity of 0.95 as default setting, and it works well for most non reflective materials. Modern phones can be used a long time. The only thing holding them back is software updates.

    That temperature sensor has to be the most gimmicky thing Google has ever included in one of their phones, and that is saying something.
    They say it can't be used to take a human's body temp, and to accurately take the temperature of an object you'd have to get your hand 2 inches away to begin with. If my hand is 2 inches away from something that is hot enough to burn me I'm going to figure that out WAY quicker by virtue of my hand being 2 inches away, rather than waiting for google's little sensor to give me an exact reading.

      I would say for the first 3 or 4 days as a pixel user test it heavy and when I say heavy use it heavy filming 4k 60 frames for several minutes. Have the brightness all the way up, have it connected to Bluetooth. Have it on data only. Use power intensive apps such as games or watch 4K videos do the whole nine yards that way. If you do use it like that, it gets conditioned to it and if you use it way less than that, you better optimize it once it gets accustomed to being used like that
