Mazda CX-5 maintenance mode for rear (parking) brakes

This is a quick video showing how to put the electronic parking brake (EBP) in a 2018 Mazda CX-5 into maintenance mode.

Great info, worked a treat. So many of the other vids about this fail to mention that before starting the procedure that the parking brake should be off first, otherwise the procedure does not work. Thank you for your clear explanation of the procedure😀👍

why are you doing this is it only for the rear brakes and not necessary for the front?

The rear brakes have an electric caliper ( in addition to the normal hydraulic one) that engages the rotor when the parking brake is on. This process tells that electric caliper to back all the way off so you can take the rotor off. Then when you take it out of service mode the electric caliper to snug back down so it can engage the rotor for the parking brake. the fronts just have the normal hydraulic calipers.

@@MaqsVids i have not tried it, but other utube videos show it does not release brakes as it is expected to do. The mazda cx5 2021 at least does not follow existing procedure. Several people have had issues and now their brakes after replacing pads rotors are not working. My research is only online and other utubers experiences which have not been good. I know the expensive professional dealer ODBC units can reverse the brake motors, but maybe not all basic $100 units used by us at home. Time will tell as more people change brakes on 2021 model in next 24 months i imagine. Let me know if u hear something. Maybe the dealers want to protect their turf and sell brake jobs. I don't know yet. I don't think u can reverse the + and - ve wires on brake motor to unwind it back, as very little is exposed.

@@MaqsVids you can follow the brake procedure and i think it give you the false impression it has backed off the brakes, but then people are saying they have had problems. I think they think the screw is backed up, but in fact it was not, and they broke the plastic screw threads that push pull the brake pistion. My own assessment only. Look at online video of 2021 or late model cx5 brake job headaches after following basic brake Service mode procedure.
