I just replaced the rear brakes on our 2019 CX-5 and had this same issue when trying to take the car out of the brake service mode. We could hear one of the calipers trying to apply the parking break but would eventually stop. The issue ended up being the caliper piston spinning before reaching the break pad and the notches in the piston not lining up and grabbing the nipple on the back of the brake pad. We had to re-align the piston and then press the brake pedal to make sure it was touching the bake pad before taking the caliper out of service mode.
Do this, before out of maint mode press brake pedal couple of times and wallah. If you hear a long running ine during reactivation it will need alignment
Like @Cheesenipper22 you saved me too! I had visions of Mazda service techs twirling their mustaches and cackling like villains when I tell them about this issue. But alas!

This literally just happened to me, after i got an oil change! My mechanic was in shock as my brakes were never touched. But i told him to disconnect the battery like someone on here suggested (Thank You) and boom problem solved.😮🤗
There's also seems to be an early failing brake pedal switch causing multiple erroneous errors and lights. The TPMS will light, the TCS will light and no start. The brake pedal switch fails and doesn't allow to start since it doesn't sense the pedal being pressed. I finally confirmed it when I could see a delayed activation of the brake lights that was random timing. Press pedal after say 10 sec no brake lights, then they would come on and car starts. A quick easy cheap fix is new Stop Lamp Switch. To remove the switch rotate it in the bracket then it can slide out of the hole. I found it rather easy to look in the hole under the steering column and use a 16" flat screwdriver in one hand then reach in with the left hand to grab the switch and pop the connector off. it happen with me most of the time.. just switch off the car
and switch on again and the flash of the brake will disappear
The equipment is notifying the operator that something is wrong with the brakes. Fixing that is exactly the issue and for whatever reason it has taken the service department at the dealership I bought the (used) car from two visits, and two weeks - so far - to repair it.
It workedddddd
@@tenders did they replace the parking brake motor or caliper or all of it for both sides? Thanks!
@@justinmoore2977 Motor and caliper (and pad) on right side. EDIT: a year later, motor on left side too. Boo. Mazda should acknowledge an ongoing design problem here.
Same happen to me I got everything replace but I still get the epb light on dash. I heard somewhere it can be the esc module something do with the suspension.... and I did hit a pothole
You have to pull up on it to turn it off
i changed my brake pads and now i have the same problem with my CX9 2018
Just got mines changed today and have that problem. Any fix to the problem ?
Me too I’m pissed and can’t use cruise control now
did you twist the piston in or compress it in ?
Did u ask the agency for it ?
If this happened after a brake pad change, the question has to be asked: were the brakes first placed in “maintenance mode”? If not, the module is likely damaged. That is not the issue with my vehicle.
