    As a Civil War buff, and living historian I love the video, please do not jump on the "historically accurate" band wagon. The union soldiers were issued bummers, not kepis(these were private purchase) slouch hats were used in great quantities on both sides, and so where blanket rolls. The issued knapsack was uncomfortable, and cumbersome.

      Thank you Josh, it’s nice to hear people less critical of the accuracy of these miniatures. I love them myself, and am not personally worried either way, they do a great job of representing what I need for the game, I just wanted to provide a rounded review and mention some of the criticisms within the community.
      I’d be interested in your thoughts on the Wave 2 releases, they were criticised a bit as well, but when I reviewed them I found them pretty good myself.
      Thank you for watching.

    Nicely put together Stu, look forward to more especially when you get round to painted these - 2400 muskets , 2399 muskets to go.....we all will go stir crazy.
    As a few already have pointed out and more will the real downside to this venture is the massive extra outlay needed if you go for the warlord wave 2 and 3 releases. I would have stumped up for the zouave box if they had offered a bit of variety, unit in Kepi, unit in fez, or turban or straw hats (go Wheat Louisiana lads) but £40 for all one type is a non starter. Likewise cavalry, mounted , dismounted and horse holders is another £100, no thanks. Skirmishers look nice but cost the earth and as for the commander models....
    As soon as I had the sprue from WI, I broke out the kallistra minis I had on hand and put together a few trial bases, even without a thin shim they are a good match. Next up the pendraken 10mm minis, yes they are smaller but not as bulky as kallistra, so with a shim look okay, but if based together and not mixed, they are unnoticeable amongst the other bases. So its elsewhere to fill in the gaps methinks,.
    You also need to add the cost of the Glory Hallelujah book if you did not go all in and want to use BP rules, the little booklet is just a taster not enough.
    It will be interesting if this price model (very GW) of a great value starter but relatively high priced expansions will take off enough to see if warlord expand into other periods. I suspect that like so many of their products of late, that poor follow up sales will see them quietly dropping back to pure 28mm

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree with you on the price thing, and I think I agree more and more on that when I think about it. It’s been a very long time since I’ve purchased lots of models at smaller scalers from the ‘smaller manufacturers’, so I was probably a little more numb to the higher prices than some (I’ve got very used to Forgeworld prices in recent years, so anything seems cheap 😂). Saying that I’ve not really got any regrets with my wave 2&3 pre-orders, but I did use a lot of points/vouchers on them, otherwise I’d be looking at FLGS 20% discounts to make them more palatable.
      I’m glad that alternatives exist, hope Kalistra get a nice chunk of this action as well. I’ll definitely be ordering a few more bits from them. I’ve got a handful of Pendraken Napoleonics that I ordered for samples, they did seem very small to me, but then again I don’t have any of their ACW range, and I can totally see how it wouldn’t matter once based and painted. I’m looking forward to Pendraken’s Peninsular Brits, looks like they got their master sculpts today.
      It will be interesting to see if once the hype dies down interest will fade, especially with the prices of supporting stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s it now as well, they could easily get away with leaving the release like this for a while.

      @@MiniatureRealms loved the sound quailty what mic do u use

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a really cheap lapel mic with single earphone from Amazon (about £10), the name on the little pouch in comes in is IGOKU, it’s got split mic and earphone jacks, so I just plug the mic in and ignore the rest.
      I’m using a LUMIX DMC G7K, the internal mic is fine, but I found when recording stuff for my middle channel, when I moved around I didn’t like the change in volume. I honestly thought it might be a waste of £10, but I didn’t want to spend more at that time. I’m normally a bit funny on kit, I’ve spent money to get decent sound on the podcast I do, so thought I’d have to spend more.

    Good video, thanks. I am using black powder for small battles(well small for the ACW), Fire and fury for medium sized battles and Alter of freedom for the big big battles like gettysburg.

    If the size of frontage is in scale with the buildings which would be a first, then I can see the use for the large regiments/battalion’s. However as a building is the same scale as the figures or there about, then it would have to be a skirmish game with a 6feet long table having a scale length of around 250 yards so care should be taken when designing scenario’s.

  • @crupt7301
    @crupt7301 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    My only gripe is that the union and Confederate infantry are the same, while the slouch hats were used by the union I would have perfered an all keppi look since I'm to lazy to clip all the heads lol

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think many people share your opinion on this. I don’t mind too much, but two separate sprues would have amazing.

  • @stevenhuteson7400
    @stevenhuteson7400 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    12 mounted Generals per side seems excessive (mind you I'm new to historical epic scale) would've been nicer to see cavalry regiments

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They released cavalry afterwards, along with loads of other bits. This release was a bit of a test in the new scale for them, and with the cost of tooling and set up for a new plastic frame, they only invested in the one, so it’s very multi-use. Much of what they’ve learnt has gone into the Epic Waterloo release.

  • @horuslupercal9936
    @horuslupercal9936 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was so excited when this Line of minis came out. Then I found out that there is no difference in Uniforms between the two sides. And, each unit contains a mix of headgear rather than just one type. That made me hesitate to committ.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a concern a few people have, it’s definitely not for all as quite understandably some want a more extensive range of infantry uniforms (especially in the headgear). It was a cost thing, ACW was used to test out the format and the scale. It was successful, the Waterloo range has seen the benefits of the success, and now they’ve even added to the ACW range in plastic. I’d love them to do a frame with all Kepi/Forage hats, I think it would really balance out the range a bit more. I can live with it as it is, but I appreciate it will stop some people from purchasing.

    • @TheOppl
      @TheOppl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I share that issue with the same sprue - especially around headgear. What I will say is, the design of the slouch hats is such that with a couple of simple clipper cuts and some rounding-off with a knife, you can make every single one into a Kepi. I have done that for my Union side, and it took no time at all to do. I still would prefer not having to do this of course, but don't let that be a deal-breaker.

  • @peteraussie7606
    @peteraussie7606 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am using one base to a regiment to refight big battles including Gettysburg. Using three or more bases gives the same frontage as a 28 mm regiment negating the size advantage for big battles on the same size table. I wont be buying wave two or three items due to the insane pricing. Much cheaper metals available from Kallistra in 12mm. I just add a thin shim to the base and you can't tell any difference on the table.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea using them that way for larger battles, might even try that one day. You’re definitely not alone on the pricing thing, I think Kalistra will be doing some nice business.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I’ve actually picked some up, mostly from their range of Generals and Commanders/officers. They’re pretty good for mounted stuff, I’m definitely a fan, slightly larger but work great for commanders. I think they’re too big for infantry, but looks like anything horse related they can work.
      I’ve done a review video where I compare the sizes, and I use some to compare to the Warlord Epic Scale Cavalry in a more recent video. If that might interest you check out the Epic Battles playlists, one is just a Vlog series on the game, the other is a ‘catch all’ with all related epic ACW content.
