    I just got my zuaves and Iron Brigade, but unfortunately I won't be able to paint them for a while because I'm moving soon. I'll be sure to look up this video again when I'm ready to paint them.

    Cracking work! I like how you primed and dry brushed the mini before the contrast paints, adds even more depth

      Thank you. Pre-highlighting is a really useful technique, been using it for years, now contrast paints exist it gives it even more uses.

    Gaiters made of cotton canvas similar to the spats worn by Scottish regiments in kilt dress.

    Amazing work can't wait to get mine and start the joy of painting probably not going to play as not knowing if some one also plays so they will be on the shelf sad to say

      Thank you 😊 Have you considered solo play? I’ve not tried that myself yet, but it’s something I might try in the future, especially when I have enough to refight historical actions. There’s no local players to me as far as I’m aware, but there are some Black Powder players, so as I’m painting both sides I think I can probably persuade someone to play.

    I really want a CSA Zouaves tutorial.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you have any particular regiment in mind? I’m working on a big Antietam project, and many of the CSA regiments had lost a lot of their nice uniforms by then, though I’ll definitely be working on more, and may record more tutorials.
      The scheme in this one is Coppen’s Zouaves, which is actually a CSA regiment from Louisiana, but it’s definitely less flamboyant scheme compared to some, and looks like some from the north.

    Thank you another good looking and informative video, that hopefully get me back to work finishing off my own pile of ACW miniatures - bit of a painting burnout at the minute.
    Have you any thoughts (or anyone else here) have thoughts abouts "turbanised zouaves? I had considered using "greenstuff" but when I trialed a base for Ellsworth's Zouaves , I thought that there was just about enough detail in the "fez" to allow me to simply paint that white and add a red top. Not perfect I know but at normal wargming height it is still effective. I cannot see Warlord producing the zuoaves with turbans, the Peter Pig offering are lovely but too big (and costly) and Pendraken are definately too small

      @MiniatureRealms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a lot to get through isn’t it, sometimes a break from painting is a healthy thing.
      I’m not sure what to suggest with the alternative Zouaves, I would have thought GreenStuff as well. I think there were some 3D files around, but not sure they’ve done Zouaves yet.

    nice tutorial! by the way is there any specific andvantage of the new Warhamme handle/grip over the old one?

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. I’m not sure either has an advantage other the other really, they both essentially work the same in they way models are attached, the major difference is the design of the handle you hold, the new one is thinner and lighter, but I’m not sure I find it more comfortable - almost too thin. It’s very much going to be a subjective thing on comfort. My favourite is my Redgrass games one (the blue one with orange tac that I’m using right at the end).

    The sash worn by these troops is the same as worn by French troops of the time and still worn by the Foreign Legion.. it is called " La ceinture "

    Thanks for creating another great video. You might have mentioned this elsewhere but it would be useful to share/educate us on brush selection. With so many brands, sources, material and sizes, it can get confusing as to which brush is the best for a specific part of a job. I realize the obvious is a small one for detail work but what exactly do you use to do the beards? In addition care of brushes has to relate to longevity and so what tips do you have on brushes etc etc.

      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Funnily enough I recorded a short video on brushes last night, it needs editing but will be out sometime this week 🙂

    I'm sorry for my ignorance. But what is the difference between for example the Epic Battles paint sets and the Contrast Paint you use? What is so good with the Contrast?
    Thanks

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the branded ‘Epic ACW’ paint sets come in two forms. One a set of mostly Vallejo acrylic with a couple from Army painter, you could describe this as the more standard approach. The other is one of their ‘Rapid deployment’ sets which is Army Painter Acrylics with a pot of quick shade. The idea being you paint on the flat colours in the right areas, then cover the whole model in quick shade, a potentially much faster process. You could speed that up further by base coating using coloured spray rattle cans first.
      Contrast is a Citadel product from games workshop, they’re essentially thick glazes. For a quick method you can paint them over a white, cream or grey prime/undercoat, they naturally shade a little, but can look too bright. I use them slightly differently, I pre-shade/pre-highlight my miniatures first before I use Contrast. This gives them a grayscale look, I do this by priming in black, then highlighting with a dusting of grey and then white - this is much easier with an airbrush. It’s certainly not the quickest way, but it can be slightly quicker than more regular techniques, as you can skip doing highlights because it’s already achieved this with the first stages. Though I still do some highlights so it doesn’t save loads of time.
      Check out my Confederate Infantry painting Tutorial, I show the pre-shading/highlighting process in that video and talk about it a bit there.

      @@MiniatureRealms thanks for the help. I've only just got into this and this range will be my 1st attempt. Hopefully they do this in Napoleonics in the near future. That's my passion

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always happy to help, and thank you for watching. Napoleonics is actually the same for me, if this game hadn’t launched I’d probably be doing some form of Napoleonics instead right now. There’s no doubt Warlord will do this for Napoleonics, probably relatively soon, and I’ll definitely be covering it very heavily on the channel when they do.
