Today, I service my 2005 Mercury 8hp 4 stroke outboard. The oil change procedure is very easy and with minimal tools you can get the job done easily in 15 minutes.

My 8 hp mercury is brand new and this will be my first oil change it only has maybe 9 hours on it but I was wondering if I'll need that gasket since it's brand new?

It's recommended to change it every time.9 hours? Is that what the manual recommends on the first oil change? I change mine once a year, and it's definitely way more than 9 hours of use.

In that case, it's probably ok to reuse it at 9 hours. Just make sure to torque that bolt properly and send it! Good luck and tightlines!

Thanks for your video. I have the same kicker as you. How do you change the fuel/water separator filter on this motor?

I have the fuel/water separator right after the gas reservoir. It's fixed mounted, and I swap the filter every season. It tees off into my main and into my kicker. Perhaps I'll make a video on my setup.

Thanks. I have one of those fixed on my transom for my main 150hp optimax. That feeds both the kicker and big motor. However inside the cowling I have another fuel filter canister on the port side of the motor. I have a 2005 8hp 4 stroke just a EL. I thought you may have a fuel filter 'canister' on your motor as well. Thanks

I have an inline fuel filter under the cowling. I'm not sure if our model is the same as I don't see a canister on mine. Send me an email, and I'll send you pics. I just took 4 of each side of my 8hp kicker. [e-mail]
