Correction not powering a Clutch and Drive Shaft reduces friction and thus saves power 90 or more percent at least of fuel consumption is wasted in friction roughly 9 percent of fuel consumption moves the car with less than 1 percent being used to move the driver
So a Gas/Electric is far more efficient and easier to maintain over a Fuel Car or True EV

Based off the reliability of the current Camry hybrid, I’d see no issue buying a 25. I worried about having the cvt transmission until I actually researched it. Their ecvt will outlast any conventional automatic. No bands or chains in it. Has a planetary gear style system. Simply amazing.

If you drive both the hybrid and the non-hybrid 2.5L NA for 15 years the hybrid will have more repairs and higher maintenance costs that will outweigh the fuel economy savings if you don’t drive a lot. Dropping the regular 4-cyl engine was a mistake as it already has the best in class mpg (35-41 mpg).

Also a clutch actuator to change the fluid in. Not to mention cleaning and balancing the battery. The motor/generator which is also the alternator costs a small fortune to replace. There is actually MORE maintenance for a hybrid than regular gas engine. It's just that people don't do it and/or don't know about it.

Scotty, Ask any good locksmith about WD-40. They will tell you not to use it on lock assemblies because it's made from petroleum distillate and/or silicone which will attract dust and will wear out the lock quicker and/or gum up the mechanism. It's better to use graphite powder to lubricate a lock when putting a lock together and to free up an assembled lock use Tri-Flow or another brand of T.P.F.E.(commonly referred to as brand-name Teflon) spray without petroleum distillates.

With the engine running a generator that charges a battery that powers electric motors at the wheels I think that they will be more efficient because the gas motor can be of smaller displacement and all it is going to do is sit there and idle to run that generator just topping off the batteries whether starting off from a red light or going up hills or through snow etc. That is where the efficiency comes in and it will run for hours on a tank of gas when it is idling. Plus there will be regenerative braking to help the batteries as well. So I think you might be wrong about this type of set up Scotty!

When the column is locked the steering wheel will only rotate in one direction. To the right on my Honda. YMMV it may be to the left on some cars. Cars have pretty universally been equipped with steering column locks since the 1970s. For example GM first introduced it in 1969.
Turn the key to the off position and remove it. Rotate the wheel in the direction that it locks. The column is now locked and will only rotate in that direction not the other. And the ignition will not turn with the key in it. To unlock rotate the wheel further in the direction it locks qland turn the key and it's unlocked. I can't think of any car foreign or domestic that hasn't worked this way in the last 50 years. At least ones that still have an keyed ignition switch in them, as opposed to push the start without a physical keyed ignition cylinder to turn.
Steering column locks are also why cars pretty universally have the ignition switch on the column from the late 60s early 70s onward as opposed to the ignition switch being on the dash like many cars from the 60s and older.

Interesting that the Ram is going to use a system like a diesel electric locomotive. I'm not sure it will work in that application. It works for locomotives for one big reason. Those machines need torque to pull the loads and electric motors give you 100% torque the instant you give it power. Besides a mechanical transmission to handle that amount of torque would be a nightmare. The diesel/electric system is actually very efficient under the size of loads trains carry.

They do this because they have no idea how much gasoline you are going to pump, and people were pumping more fuel than they had funds available.
