My dealership couldn't even give me both correct keys for my new corolla. They gave one of my keys to some random person because they cant keep the keys for new cars organized when there are only 10 new cars on the lot.
They lied to me about date the vehicle was incoming, they initially told me 3 weeks then after 3 weeks it was 2 more then it was "we have no way to know, maybe another month or two" . it took over 2 months.
The insurance contractor that "they're not responsible for" even though she works in their building and was introduced by the salesperson, tried to commit insurance fraud by signing up to discounts that don't apply to me and raising my bill at the same time so she could get paid.
I feel like this one is petty but I had to immediately clean and rewax a brand new car because they did such a terrible job you could glance at it and see the wax clumped up on it. it has been the hottest summer on record and If i didn't know better the paint would be messed up week 1 from cheap wax being baked onto the car

As far as I know, Toyota's "just in time" strategy is more about how they work with little or no inventory of materials beyond what is necessary for immediate production.

    • @Christopher_TG
      @Christopher_TG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Which contributes to this kaizen mentality. The just-in-time production method means that there's no incentive for Toyota plants to try and beat their deadlines or go ahead of schedule. They literally would run out of parts if they did that because of the just-in-time strategy. So instead, in the event that they're ahead of schedule, Toyota plant workers are incentivized use the extra time to figure out what could be improved about the car or the production methods rather than go ahead and get started on the next car.

When the engine was re-assembled, the guy doing the work did not line up the harmonic balancer and the key on the crank. He just rattled the bolt tight with an impact gun. The harmonic balancer came loose and ruined the crank requiring the engine be replaced. The dealer refused to stand by their work. Toyota refused to fix it as it was the dealer's fault.

That's awesome! I sold Toyotas for yrs & some clients had a misconception saying they'd feel bad because they want to support American workers. I'd always bring up the work you do there in Kentucky & other US plants. Then they'd always ask "what about the Japanese quality?" I'd bring up the kaizen principle & other important Toyota philosophies which has continued to result in the legendary quality. I believe by now 70% of all Toyotas sold in the US are made in the US🇺🇲.
You all do an amazing job & I probably owe you guys a portion of the sales I made, lol🤙

It’s why the pinto came out with what was basically a bomb in the back and they did nothing about it, figuring they could handle the lawsuits. Unfortunately playing the long game can also be bad, cuz the Lexus LFA took so long the rest of the world caught up, so by the time it came out it wasn’t as impressive.

My dad bought a 2013 Toyota tundra and was using it to haul our 33 foot travel trailer from Virginia to Alabama, with its bed still being filled to the brim with our shit, basically every summer and winter to visit family. It is also his daily driver so it just accrues tons of miles annually anyway. After 8 years of this heavy usage it has not had a single problem ever come up, not even a small issue. Just regularly expected maintenance.
In comparison, my mom bought a 2010 Chevy traverse to use as her daily driver. It has only ever had to pull a small u-haul trailer once and typically is never even loaded with anything in general. In the 11 years we have had it the car has had its timing belt and fuel injectors replaced twice, just about every transmission component replaced once (including a complete replacement of the transmission with a new one we did about 4 years ago to try and get around the frequent transmission issues it was having). This newer transmission started to shift roughly about 3 months ago... The car has also had its power steering pump replaced and other power steering components replaced as well as several replacements of console electrical components. There are probably several other repairs that I Have forgotten about that had to be done.
It's just not even a fair comparison between the two vehicles. My mom was trying to make it last while she went through college so she doesn't put tons of miles on a new car going back and fourth on a 40 minute round trip daily to her school and back but the traverse forced her hand. Just bought a new 2022 Camry hybrid a few days ago and has already put 130 miles on it and the gas tank only reached 3/4ths capacity yesterday. Those little things are fucking insane.

I've owned 2006 and 2009 Corolla sedans, and the 2017 Corolla iM (Scion iM) hatchback. All 3 vehicles were supremely reliable. My only major expense on my 2006 Corolla was the suspension rebuild at 110,000 miles (typical for any car). The only thing I didn't like on both the 2009 and 2017 vehicles was the clumsy electric power steering, in which I was never 100% sure what the wheels were doing with the lack of on-center steering accuracy. Didn't have any of those steering issues with my Camry or Tacoma rental vehicles.
I've also owned 2014, 2018 and now 2022 Kia Rio's and prefer their interior designs and technology while still being very reliable, but you still can't go wrong with a Toyota.

Had a 95 Toyota camry. Changed the fluids when needed. Sold it at 430,800 miles. No leaks at all. No leaks.
Just changed the water pump, radiator thermostat, radiator fan, upper & lower radiator hoses. The usual fluids, tires, brakes pads, light bulbs, spark plugs. Paint & body, interior in good/taken care of condition.
Every once in a while I see the old camry around the neighborhood. Sold it for $3,000

I remember when my dad and I rented a 2019 Toyota Camry for a trip we took. We were supposed to get a Fusion like the one I drive but my dad and I fell in love with the car. I hope I can drive a Toyota one day.

You know they’re over engineered when a stock 2005 Corolla has iron sleeves with coated pistons, forged rods and crank

The absence of "Jidōka" and "Kaizen" in ferrari's assembly line is what gave birth to Lambos.

I have a friend who works at toyota, they got this Kaizen research competition of toyota dealers every year. What a great way to improve everything in a company.

My 87 toyota pickup 22r had stock forged pistons in it w/cast-iron block, it had 200,000 miles when I tore it down and crank/rod bearings were all gorgeous w/ a little bit of expected wear
