Excellent video!! I really enjoy listening how you elaborate your thoughts:) While I have a different perspective on the first point, I concur with the 2nd and 3rd reasons. For me, both of them are about stability -- the job security and the stability of the personnel in a team -- so that we can accomplish tasks, accumulate knowledge, advance our careers, and foster relationships. I know it may sound idealistic, but one has to have something to strive for.
Hi, ty for the comment. I'm curious to hear your pov on $. Besides the point I raised in the video about "pay per hour", I also found it helpful to consider "time left for self". Working a demanding job like this one at Tik Tok will practically mean giving away majority of my free time after work. This is where magic happens for me 🪄, so it's def a compromise I'm not willing to make. Okay, not for 500k/25% more at least.
@@heyitsyi5 I think I agree with all of your reasons but the 2nd and 3rd combined would be the number one deal breaker for me. As my point of view about money, I know it's extremely privileged to think like this, but here it is. As the amount grows, the question for myself gradually changes from "Do I absolutely need this amount" to "How much does the employer value my service" plus "Is this work worth it". The "plus" part means they could compensate each other. The last question raises other related concerns - Does it satisfy my curiosity? Am I excited about it? How can I develop my career from there? Who are my future teammates? Do I make any positive impact on anyone's life at all?... so on and so forth. In general, it becomes murkier as the amount and responsibilities grow, making it difficult to find a clean cut.
Great insight into decision making surrounding job offers. It makes more sense when starting out in your career to go for the corporate ladder climbing and sacrificing your own time or happiness for risk reward. But at a certain point individuals will need to balance things like health, family, and general well-being. If those things are not a part of the work culture, then it makes sense to avoid the offer in my opinion. Some people may prefer career driven life over everything else and that is their choice.
Well said! It def took me a while to realize and have the courage to say no, so hopefully this video brings some comfort and validation to folks who’ve felt pressured to optimize money first.
@@heyitsyi5 Thanks. You must be very talented. The base salary is even more than the ones I knew for some 3-2 PM roles in Tiktok, even as a Cash heavy offer. The # of sign-on bonus and stock make sense to me. 25% of a year-end bonus is really impressed. Feel like the role level is like between Senior and Staff for SWE.
I watched and you calculated it wrong. How do you plan to sell your RSUs with no buyback program? Also signing bonus should be over 4 years. You also didn’t specify full stock vesting schedule. You also didn’t specify prorated bonus eligibility. You also missed refresher stock calculations. I could go on. There are many issues and incorrect assumptions with your calculations.
Thank for sharing the information! You will have better opportunity !
Thanks ❤️

Does "Product lead" mean that the role is Product Manager? Do you mind sharing what is the level of that role (e.g. 1-2, 2-1, etc)?
Yes, it’s a 3-1 PM role.

You either don’t understand how to calculate yearly TC or you’re just doing it for clickbait.
You either didn’t watch the video or you’re just trolling 🙃
