I did this job on my 1988 mustang gt back in 1993.I bought the car new in 1988. When I did this job by the manual I had , the car only had 24,000 miles on it. Anyway I took my time ,and it is done exactly the way you did it however , I took a couple afternoons in my spare time to reassemble everything. It came out so perfect ,it looked like I never touched the car. I will tell you for neither love nor money , I will never attempt that job again . My friend I worked with had a Ford Fairmont wagon with the same problem, and he stated the same thing. Never again. His job came out great also. When I found out how easy a non air conditioned fox body car was to change the core , I just about flipped .Great video. Been there ,done that , and never again. Stay safe....
i had a 1980 mustang and the heater core was behind the glove box below the evaporator core requiring it to be taken out after discharging the A/C and putting it back and re-charging the A/C afterwards
Gotta congratulate those engineers and designers for a job well done in making every mechanic and DYI lives a little more crap show, takes more time to dismantle than anything,,my old chevys were behind the glove box,,a toast to everyone who does this👍
Great Video ....... I've Been Dreading This Replacement For Years. Almost Took It To A Mechanic To Replace. But Watching This Video I Believe I Will Save Me About $700+. I Will Start Project In A Couple Days.
Words of wisdom right there,Probably the most important thing unless one wants to do this job all over again, lol, this system was not very well designed, even with the restrictor they still fail, romping on the car before the thermostat opens is really bad too for the ole heater core also,i think they should make a heater core thats a little more stoutly built but i have read this doesn't only happen to these cars, other makers too.
Are you saying on my 87 2.3L non air I don't have to pull the whole dash apart to change this out? I dropped the glove box to take a look. You would have to do a video on that to show us because I don't see anyway possible to get that airbox open to get the core out.
can a heater core be installed on a car that originally does not have one? i do know how to mount and do the plumbing. my question is will my water pump get damaged because it will now push water through the radiator and heater core. thank u in advance
@@ufartface thank u. I got my project car postponed because it was involved in an accident. Luckily i came out with no injury. But the mh project car got badly damaged :(
benny coniglio that car has a GPS Speedo but I have been able to get the dash far enough out of the way on several cars with the speedo attached, only had one I had to disconnect because it had zero play
Anybody know where the heater core for a Mustang GT 4.6 2007 would be located I keep trying to find answers on the internet but nothing specific? I’m assuming I’m still going to have to remove the dash? Maybe? Anything helps!
After watching this video, the engineer(s) that designed this should’ve been mandated to install one themselves before it left the prototype floor. There’s gotta be a better way to design this. Ridiculous. 🙄
Lot of cars are like this, not just these Mustangs,Ive done several different cars and its about the same but yes, you are right, they should do several not just one so they can experience the pain firsthand, they should have positioned it vertically with a trapdoor on the bottom of sorts,im sure it could be done, kinda like cabin filters.

Best Heater Core video I’ve seen. Great job with the detailed description.

Thank you for making this video. It was extremely helpful. I got mine done in about 5 hours
I’m about to tackle mine, except I need to change my evap core. Thanks for the timeline estimate! I was wondering about how long it might take.

Probably the best instruction video I have ever watched good job. 😊
Had to do this on my 89. I would rather bait an alligator with my manhood than to ever do that again.
Great video.
I would also recommend a new flow restrictor in the heater core hose to prevent the heater core from getting to much pressure and prematurely failing.
I agree, I used a small socket 10 - 11mm I believe, works just the same. I think the restrictors were installed in the patrol cars also.

@@garysmith2501 that’s where all of the 10mm sockets are going to!
Fun to watch! Great installation video!
Clear and concise. Excellent!
Awesome. Very detailed instructions and tips. Thanks. You guys made it look easy.
Dig the custom wiper arm!
Wishing my car wasn’t a factory A/C car right about now lol
Do you have digital cluster I didn't know if the speedometer cable would need to be un hooked before you drop the dash
When you say I can just pull the AC bracket off the studs I considered it a capital offense
Good video

water pump is designed to pump through both

What would you rather do, headers on a coyote or a fox heater core?
fox heater core
Hello, why do none of you take the extra step to show up how to replace the AC evaporator? Would love to see a video of you guys doing it. Thanks
I used olive oil for the reinstallation of the hoses
That's a good idea, be very careful with them the core is so freaking fragile.
Mine is dripping coolant through the firewall onto the exhaust manifold
do you have a separate video on how to remove and install the hoses to the heater core?
You loosen clamps, pull hoses, put new hoses with clamps and your done, not really worth a video, common sense.
How much would this job cost? I have a 1987 Ford Mclaren 5.0
Manufacturers could so readily make the design easier to work on, but I swear I think they do this on purpose to torture us.
Ford
Still better than working on a chevy
Factory non air car here.....dropped the glove box and can't access nearer core as you said....
Same. Don't see how it's possible.
Did you have to disconnect the speedometer cable in order to pull the dash that far out?
benny coniglio that car has a GPS Speedo but I have been able to get the dash far enough out of the way on several cars with the speedo attached, only had one I had to disconnect because it had zero play
You really just have to do the right side to get where you need....

I cut a hole in the fire wall and made a spring loaded flap in my 85 GT to replace mine. 😂
I have to do the same thing to my car can you do it for me
People make a Fox heater core job out to be much worse than it is. It’s a couple hour job, at the most.
If you know what you are doing but it is intimidating for many.
Wish it only took 14 mins!
Holy hell, I thought I was the only one. The wipers on these cars suck😂

i just cut a hole in the dash- no big deal for a 20 year old car then pieced it together
@@dntlss They could have had a plate on the fire wall just take it out there lol...
35 years and 150k. No leaks
