3:18 sound design always get me, such an incredible moment. They really dont showcase batman outsmarting the villain in this way in many of his movies which is why i always love this one.
The Batarang is an acoustic Batarang and he has to lock it onto the target to make sure it doesn't miss. The clue is in the riddle itself. Bats use acoustic sound detection in order to "see" their prey in pitch black darkness. The Batarang was designed to lock onto targets using their sounds.
This movie had so much potential. Bruce’s struggle to be both Batman and Bruce Wayne is represented with both villains here. Harvey is also struggling with Duel personalities could’ve tied with him so well, and riddlers part was that in order to beat his mind and his schemes that he needed to be at peace with himself. Of one mind. They made it too goofy but it’s still fun to watch.
Jim Carey's goofiness was alright. If they removed the neon colors on Two-Face and Jones just be a more straightforward serious evil character and kept the amnesia arc for batman (still cut the animatronic man bat though), it would have been the best Batman movie of the original era, even surpassing Tim Burton's films.
I always felt that if Burton and Michael Keaton were in Batman Forever it would have been one of the most epic movies of all time. Burton with Jim Carrey would have been amazing.
Joey Trevino Jim’s acting was great, but Corey Michael Smith’s portrayal of the Riddler from Gotham was more accurate. The Riddler and Two Face in this film seemed too Joker.

I know they couldn't stand each other on set but honestly I love Riddler being crazy and it cutting to Two Face laughing and reacting. There's real chemistry
Jim Carrey told the story back when Norm MacDonald (may he RIP) had his talk show and said TLJ is an actor that he always had a great admiration for and still does to this day but that he approached him in a very friendly manner and TLJ didn’t hold back on letting Jim know just how much he despised him. I think it was just Jones. Carrey at least from what I’ve read tried to be a good sport about it but we’ll never really know. At least he got along well enough with Will Smith for the MIB trilogy and Jones speaks of him in high spirits
The way Batman blindsides the Riddler with both his own riddle AND that surprise Batarang is genius. By mentioning he had a riddle for the Riddler, Batman was able to buy time for both Dr. Chase and Robin, as well as set up his means to destroy the "Brain Wave Collector". The trick with his visor made Riddler believe the Batarang was meant for him, when it went for the machine. To top it all off, Batman managed to save BOTH hostages, thwarting Riddler's death trap.
That's technically what happened. The "chandelier" held all the collective neural energy Riddler gathered through his box device and absorbed in his head to gain further intelligence, wit and cleverness. Needless to say, when Batman destroyed the source of Riddler's amplified smarts, he shattered Riddler's "mind".

@Nonya BiZz incorrect. The reason why they were trying to outdo eachother (or why Tommy Lee Jones was trying to outdo Jim) was because he as jealous of Jim. Jim Carrey’s career took off faster than his career. His career took off faster than any other movie star’s career actually, even Tom Cruise’s. Carrey and Jones butted heads throughout the whole shooting of the movie. So did Joel Schumacher and Val Kilmer
And in the end, he died in that grave. In a way that made me CRY. All The Penguin wanted was to live a normal life, no matter how different he was from other human beings. Instead, he was raised by Emperor Penguins, framed AND tried to kill Batman, betrayed Catwoman and nearly killed her, and then died while bile was dripping out of his mouth IN FRONT OF BRUCE WAYNE’S VERY EYES. Keep in mind, Danny DeVito got a GOLDEN GLOBE for his role in Batman Returns.

Seriously, Val Kilmer. Underrated Batman.
I always loved how Jim Carrey twirled that staff. He was really good at it lol
It's called practice.
As if actors always do everything all in one shot everytime
I still remember a press kit that was on HBO when this came out and he talked about how when he first tried this trick, it went flying across the room and people had to duck out of the way.

So do we get a riddler version of Rocket man next?

Oh shit, I completely forgot Drew Barrymore was in this.
I feel the same way, but about Nicole Kidman. I remember Kim Basinger and Michelle Pfeiffer playing romantic interests in these movies, but I always forget about Nicole Kidman. Not because she's a bad actress (quite the opposite, she's a great actress), but just because she really doesn't stand out in this movie. Nothing she says or does is memorable.

@@ccsilva6110 thank you for recognizing that. I’m so sick of people saying BS like “Jim Carrey always plays the same character” or “Jim Carrey always plays himself” because it’s Not true!
"If knowledge is power, then a God am I"
Damn man, that shits totally badass
No one could ever match Jim Carrey’s charismatic Riddler. Truly makes him an evil legend
Idk Dano"s riddler was absolutely epic
@@ChillyraiderDano's Riddler is more creepier than wacky Jim's Riddler.

The Riddler and Dr. Robotnik are Jim Carrey’s best villain roles!
Yup. It could’ve been brilliant, unfortunately Joel Schumacher had to do his nonsense
@@JRF1004 Schumacher intentionally wanted it to resemble the campiness of the 60s show.
Matt, man. Good spin.
I always felt that if Burton and Michael Keaton were in Batman Forever it would have been one of the most epic movies of all time. Burton with Jim Carrey would have been amazing.
Jim Carrey was perfect for this role. And this scene was very intense when I first saw it in theater.
Joey Trevino Jim’s acting was great, but Corey Michael Smith’s portrayal of the Riddler from Gotham was more accurate. The Riddler and Two Face in this film seemed too Joker.
I think when this was new it may have been fun now it's just dull.
3:16 I just love that! When Batman says, "Exactly." With the badass musical score. That follows, with his batarang! 💪🏽🦇🎬🎶🎵🎶🎵💭
Jim Carrey was perfect as The Riddler
FACT
You can see a lot of it too. Just wish he wasn't so goofy and had a better design
@@thenoirknight5729 I think they were going for a few ideal references. The Animated Series Riddler obviously is the one with the suit (which morphed into the Arkham series Riddler outfit) and 1969's Batman Riddler.
@@GenGamesUniverse Definitely. Jim Carrey's portrayal and performance is definitely in homage to Frank Gorshin's Riddler. I do agree with the elements of B:TAS in there aswell 👍.
Hey. Have you noticed that at certain points Jim Carrey sounds like the Arkham Riddler?
*1966 - 1968. Sadly Batman never got a 4th Season so it never went into '69
Really wish Carrey did wear the bowler hat, gloves, and jacket more as his Riddler. The spandex body suit just isn't enough

I’ve always liked this climax for some reason. It doesn’t end with the typical fist fight to the death. Just Batman using his quick thinking to outsmart both Riddler and Two-Face
Which I have to say is more better because it shows Batman/Bruce being exactly like his comic book counter part.

Wait! I have a riddle for you.
Batman: I see without seeing. To me, darkness is as clear as daylight. What am I?
I never realized that
I love it how movie seriously played with the Wayne/Batman dichotomy.
Kilmer is the most interesting Batman we've seen so far.
...but if one tiny chandelier explodes, everybody loses their mind!
It's all part of the plan...
when somebody gets their neural info sucked up, no one bats an eye.

@Nonya BiZz no, killed it as being beyond amazing like he is in all of his movies
