Saddest part of that line: "... what I was BRED for." Fucking Jedi employed child soldiers and slaves in their war. Palpatine may not have been a hero, but neither were the Jedi. & that includes the ones I really liked.
I don’t think Rex had anywhere near a mutation. He’s just seen a lot more than normal clones. I’m not just talking about missions and battles but he saw Obi-Wan and Anikins relationship deteriorate. He saw Ashoka framed and her leave the Jedi. He’s lost so many men who were close to him. He witnessed Krell, slavery, Slick’s Treachery and Anakins relationship with Padme. He witnessed more shit than any other clone trooper on and off the battlefield and that’s what changed him.
I think to an extent he was more like Jango and thus more independent and free thinking than some of the other clones, that combined with his experiences, in my opinion, are what changed him from a loyal soldier for the republic to a rebel who realized the whole war was basically a lie
Don't call Slick a traitor. He was smart and had the brains to realise they were all being used. Not to the degree of e.g. Fives, but he definitely deserves some respect.

The Nulls were the very first batch of Clones made by the Kaminoans and fit the theme of this video perfectly. On the other hand, they had perfect eiditic memory and are much more phsyically capable than the clones that followed. Overall, they were much closer to the Jango Fett formula than other Clones. On the note of mutations, the Null ARCs have one of the most interesting plots behind them, in terms of how they were supposed to be incredibly loyal however once they were going to be terminated that loyalty went straight to the father who adopted them.
Another example of genetic defect's/mutations are Omega and Sister, both of which are examples of either direct or indirect Kaminoian interference. Sister was a clone that ended up being born with gender dysphoria and eventually transitioning. The Kaminoians likely allowed her to live to study how her clone brothers and Jedi commanders would react to her transition. And since her gender identity didn't interfere with her combat abilities the Kaminoians likely were glad for the data. Omega on the other hand was a specific creation of a Kaminoian in order to fulfill a role they wished. They wanted a surrogate daughter and likely were inspired by Jango's own child. This further shows Kaminoians willingness to experiment and outright craft defects how and when they wanted. Also just to clarify I'm not saying being Trans or a Woman is a "defect", because, like I'm both of those things? All I'm saying is that in the context of clones those things would be considered defects. Just wanted to clarify that in case someone got all angy.
republiccommando1138 everything is based on genetics, which is why the whole “those are the clones with mutations” is misleading. EVERYONE has mutations, you cannot prevent that. Concerning the six fingers- I bet there were some, but they got terminated by the Kaminoans for being “imperfect/defective “. the clones were raised to be ambidextrous, to be better suited for handling all kinds of weaponry (Source: Republic commando novels).
Lets not forget 5's. His mutation was that of being tenacious in his loyalty to his brothers, the Jedi and the Republic. Without his sacrifice Rex would not have persuaded Wolf and Gregor to remove their chips as well. Under this train of thought this adds them to the list as well.
Two important notes that many may not have recognized in the moment... When 99 tried to make up for his defects by "being a hero" (or trying to live up to the others, doesn't really matter how you look at it) it is important to note how the other troops were holding out behind cover until he got shot (at which point they recklessly came out of cover to provide more offensive cover fire). This factor would surely have diminished the effectiveness of the GAR if these responses ever became commonplace (this also applies to the bad batch, as losing such a valuable more individualized and specialized clone would have likely provoked similar responses). Secondly, the reason why Rex probably made the decision he did as far as the deserter actually speaks to a larger problem with the clones that you addressed both directly as well as indirectly several times... What do you do with the clones after the war?... More importantly, what do the clones do after the war??? A big part of keeping soldiers noses clean, following orders, and staying alive is their having something besides war and death to look forward to. Rex probably wanted to turn the deserter in, but he needed to believe that himself and his brothers had something else to look forward to besides death. The existence of desertion is not an absence of bravery nor of honor in many cases, rather the preservation of this need personified. This is a wonderful example of a trait that was discouraged that may actually have proven more useful than detrimental as the war concluded (resulting in stronger less out of control, particular during leave, troopers). I could go deeper into either of these scenarios, but these are just two points I immediately thought of as unexplored aspects of arbitrarily choosing purely circumstantial criteria when determining what are preferable behaviors. PS: It's also a pretty good bet that if not for the Jedi Rex might not have chosen to spare the deserter despite his personal feelings, though the Jedi often made too much use of their feelings causing far too many deaths via poor strategy this was definitely a show of the potential upside to their involvement as well. If history is written by the victor, then who decides history when the victor dies off or is killed?... The answer, the survivors. History isn't just taught in the classroom, it's also taught in the home front and within a local population frequently. Who knows how many of these survivors the Jedi and clones helped save went on to join the Alliance and eventually put a stop to what the Jedi were not equipped for. :)
I was hoping that the clone that collected clanker fingers would be featured. I liked him even though we only saw him a brief moment. He was the only one who dared to stand up and question the traitor clone. Also really liked how the other clones in his team accepted him even though they knew he was a bit different and tried to cover for his weirdness.
Yoda said in the first season that even though they are clones, they are different,. They are living beings, they change and adapt, and even think Twi'leks are hot.
You know that the Kaminoians were full hot air when even their perfect Clone Army had several genetic mutations. Sure some of these mutations were positive like the Bad Batch, but we have to keep in mind that when you manipulate genetic material you risk some unforeseen mutations. The Kaminoians were great in genetics manipulation they couldn’t foreseen that there mutations could really have destroyed the unity of the Clone Army. Though considering that the Galactic Republic was buying hundreds of thousands of Clone Troopers a day, one could be forgiven that the Kaminoians were under pressure in creating a Galactic wide army so they probably couldn’t keep track of every mutations that was spotted in every Clone. There a theory that Tup may had a Mutation that affect the Chip that gave out order 66, and because of that Darth Sidious master plan could have been ruined because of the Kaminoians neglecting their job in provide a stable Clone Army for the Republic. And I remember right Tup was also getting brain canner, and canners could be genetically in nature, so lord knows how many Clones could have a deadly medical condition without the Republic High Command knowing about it.
Even ignoring the side effects of genetic manipulation, clones age twice as fast as a baseline, so they would get cancers at 'younger' ages. It's like rats, they have very short lives and are usually absolutely riddled with various cancers after a few years of life.
I think Cut had a deep sense for loyalty to his team/batchmates, since he says "All I cared about, my team, was gone". So deep the Jedi would call it attachment. After loosing his team, he had nothing left to fight for, so he deserted. This is also the reason why I think Cut was either a Commando or the batch leader (like Hevy). Slick and Rex on the other hand learned it. Slick learned from Ventress and Rex from Fives, Anakin and Ahsoka.
If they (the Kaminoans) could make more of Wrecker, they could make a new "Heavy Trooper" position, one that could carry larger weapons and/or be more armored (and then simply bulldoze the B1s). And Crosshair would "just" be a superior sniper/recon version. At least those two would be the most logical (in my mind) to focus on.
I don't think he's canon anymore, but there's Karrak. An extra violent clone who despised the other troopers, killed an instructor during training, spent years locked up on Kamino, escaped and helped the Resistance, died in hand-to-hand combat with another clone.
I feel like the Bad Batch may have been a mix of experimental and random mutations. Ex: Wrecker may have been an experiment to make clones stronger, and Tech or Crosshair may have come out smaller but with desirable traits that made them acceptable to the Kaminoans.
Man 99 was a true Star Wars hero for me as a person who has dyspraxia(a motor skills disability that affects me every day) and autism it can be hard to find a character I feel for more then him in the clone wars
If I remember correctly, didn’t heavy have a larger build compared to most clones? Obviously nowhere near Wrecker but I kinda remember him being a bit wider and bulkier
99 may have been a defective clone but he was a good man and he died a true soldier, fighting to protect his home and his brothers, RIP 99, a true soldier, friend, brother, and hero
Maybe now we see teammates who dint stick together in battelfront 2 Hero gamemodes as absolute potatoes now, but in the future, that might be a desirable mutation. Yeah no
I don’t think the deserters and traitors were do to defects. It seemed like they were do to what they were exposed to. Clone or not, they’re still people so stress will still be a factor.
Holy Christian Knight: Clearly a joke.. There’s a mutant clone special forces group 99, a Deformed clone called 99.. Think clone “defect” what is the one thing a clone shouldn’t be..?
If your going by what the kaminons version of perfection I guess you could say hardcase and his hipper active personality he said it was because his pod had a leak also I don't know if its cannon but I remember a clone called glitch who thought he was a jedi
Okay can I say something about the writing for the Clone Wars? It starts off light hearted (for a show about a war), aimed at kids. Brash Ahsoka, big bro jockish Anakin, put upon Obi-Wan, nice guy rulebooker Rex, ect. Tropey, easy to digest. Nothing really there to think about. It's Star Wars, engaging, colorful, ect. That's the hook. The Ryloth arch turns into something different. Something darker. As the show (and war) goes on we see the characters develop. Ahsoka slowly starts to question the moral high ground of the Jedi, Anakin giving into his impulses (love the foreshadowing with Vader's theme), Rex realizing it's better to be a good man than a perfect soldier. And the subject matter is darker, more sinister. Almost as if the show grew with its target audience. The brilliance in the writing, the musical score; the Clone Wars writing team understood it had two audience bases: the target TVY7 age group (so I think 7 - 13 yr olds), and the adult Star Wars fans. They had to keep both engaged. And I think it's so well done.
Imagine a clone with Rex's or A17's abilities but 99's humility. Talk about a warrior fit to lead. And I think it's his humility is why we all love 99. Same reason we all love Neville Longbottom for the Potter nerds...or why Gandalf loved the Hobbits...humility.
For the last point about why they couldn’t take desirable clone mutations and use those as templates, from my understanding you can’t reliably make a clone from a clone, which is why, when Jango’s DNA was too old (along with other factors), they used regular people instead of taking DNA from a clone and using it for a new template
I thought mutations conferred only physical traits and occasionally mental attributes as well, but aren't you throwing free will out the ship. Or do clones also lack free will and independent decision making, which is heavily influenced by the situations you find your self in, not necessarily a genetic defect
Identical twins are essentially clones. They have strong similarities, but differences too. This is natural. There are differences in temperament and drive. Their experiences shape them as well.
You forgot CT-5385 or Tup. He killed Jedi Tiplar. His inhibitor chip malfunctioned. They also revealed in the same episode that the chips were a genetic component.
slicer940 basically said what I would see, Rex was always at the side of Anakin and Obi Wan, and because of this he developed differently. He had created a bond with his generals. Also, I feel like Rex learned about peace from missions like uh, what was that planet, where Anakin was injured and they went to the village for help with the little furry ass creatures in season 1. But yeah anyways, I think he did not follow order 66 and took out his chip because he was not just going to kill the Jedi he had served with for so long, and he felt that something was just wrong about it.
actually Rex initially followed order 66 after much hesitation but ashoka captured him with the help of droids and took out the chip so he didn't do it himself
99 was easily the best clone (along with Rex, Fives, Echo, Cody, and Wrecker) . He could’ve been what inspired the young clones in the episode when Boba was trying to get revenge on Mace Windu..
If the different voices of Delta Squad is Canon then that is definitely a defect. Their completely unique personalities might also be at least partially due to a defect.
Whether or not Rex had a mutation it definitely goes without saying that anikin swede his mindset at least a bit. Even without him though, traumatic events can alter the human genome and suffice to say that Rex being a seasoned veteran could've been that impactful on him
99 did not deserve to die he was so nice and he was left out and cast away by the other clones but fives echo and heavy did not care they still loved him like any other brother and his death was so sad

I think Tup's cancer could have been seen as a genetic mutation, since that is one of the ways cancer cells develop.
It was actually an inhibitor chip.
It is indeed legends
99 was more brave than most other clones who weren't defective
I feel like the Bad Batch may have been a mix of experimental and random mutations. Ex: Wrecker may have been an experiment to make clones stronger, and Tech or Crosshair may have come out smaller but with desirable traits that made them acceptable to the Kaminoans.
The Alpha Squad was a good example of Genetic Manipulation. By that I am referring to the Legends ARCs. Like Alpha 19.
Man 99 was a true Star Wars hero for me as a person who has dyspraxia(a motor skills disability that affects me every day) and autism it can be hard to find a character I feel for more then him in the clone wars
Clone 99 a true soldier
10/10 Rex is the closest the Kaminoans got to perfectly cloning Jango.
Yeah no
99s actually had a desirable Mutation witch was surviving two blaster shots
Gotta love the talk about how morons can become very useful in a certain era in the beginning of the video.
What about Edge….the only clone with blond hair and blue eyes
I don’t think the deserters and traitors were do to defects. It seemed like they were do to what they were exposed to. Clone or not, they’re still people so stress will still be a factor.
Hey u didn’t mention the mutant clone that turned out to be a droid, they called him Unit99.. >;)
R0T-N2 D-C0R4 huh?
Holy Christian Knight: Clearly a joke.. There’s a mutant clone special forces group 99, a Deformed clone called 99.. Think clone “defect” what is the one thing a clone shouldn’t be..?
I thought this video would mention CT-1707 Able and why he would be considered a defective clone since he was shown on the front cover.
The part when 99 dies rips my heart EVERY SINGLE Time! RIP 99 💔😧😢😩
evolution is basically throwing a pot of spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks.
If your going by what the kaminons version of perfection I guess you could say hardcase and his hipper active personality he said it was because his pod had a leak also I don't know if its cannon but I remember a clone called glitch who thought he was a jedi
Good morning, y'all
It's the unknown that concern me.
What's that bone gnome at 0:26 & that bat midget at 0:32 ?
It was actually confirmed that Cut was not the genetic father of the twi'lek children, he adopted the adorables when he married their mother.
What about Hardcase's hyperactivity
Man, you really starting the nature vs nurture argument up again
R.i.p. 99.
Are we gonna ignore how Geetsly just roasted the whole world in the first minute?
The Clone's "defects" were their strength of Star Wars.
Cody: meet Clone Force 99. They’re defective clones with uh, desirable mutations.
Adam and Eve
...yes? Their faces are probably a bit modified.
Adam and Eve
Because I don’t really know.
Imagine a clone with Rex's or A17's abilities but 99's humility. Talk about a warrior fit to lead. And I think it's his humility is why we all love 99. Same reason we all love Neville Longbottom for the Potter nerds...or why Gandalf loved the Hobbits...humility.
i like how we see clones as normal people and not clones
WE ARE THE KAMINOANS, WE SEEK TO IMPROVE YOU.
For the last point about why they couldn’t take desirable clone mutations and use those as templates, from my understanding you can’t reliably make a clone from a clone, which is why, when Jango’s DNA was too old (along with other factors), they used regular people instead of taking DNA from a clone and using it for a new template
Season 7b showed how strong that frkn chip is/was
Hi been a fan since 2016 nice video
You ever thought that Cut's accident was the reason he didn't get Order 66 and that he hit his head in the crash?
that jab at america though...nice touch
99 was a true soldier
I remember a clone with blond hair in one of the episodes which would be a defect
DaDARKPass yes exactly different colored eyes is still a defect just a tiny one that isn’t as noticeable as 99’s defect
Rex,sinker and edge
I’m pretty sure the clone deserter cut just adopted those kids I think clones are sterile aren’t they
yes
I thought mutations conferred only physical traits and occasionally mental attributes as well, but aren't you throwing free will out the ship. Or do clones also lack free will and independent decision making, which is heavily influenced by the situations you find your self in, not necessarily a genetic defect
The start of the video sounds like a biology lesson
Identical twins are essentially clones. They have strong similarities, but differences too. This is natural. There are differences in temperament and drive. Their experiences shape them as well.
You forgot CT-5385 or Tup. He killed Jedi Tiplar. His inhibitor chip malfunctioned. They also revealed in the same episode that the chips were a genetic component.
No mention of the Null Arc-Troopers?
Hey i looked it up and i dont think you have done a video about the but a video about the battalion known as 5th fleet security would be cool.
clone go beep boop
slicer940 basically said what I would see, Rex was always at the side of Anakin and Obi Wan, and because of this he developed differently.
He could’ve been what inspired the young clones in the episode when Boba was trying to get revenge on Mace Windu..
i feel really sad for the defect clone troopers
Is the batch bad task force 99?
Is tups chip malfunction considered a genetic malfunction or software malfunction or something
What if a clone had an allergy to bantha fur or space peanuts? Would they get rid of him then?
If the different voices of Delta Squad is Canon then that is definitely a defect. Their completely unique personalities might also be at least partially due to a defect.
So this Conkelius guy (dear god I hope I got that name right). Who is he? What did he show up in?
Wait this was in my recommended and I saw your comment on m&r productions live stream
Lol, the 332nd only has orange helmets but regular body armor??? That looks terrible 😂🤭
