EVERY SINGLE Clone Legion, Corps, Battalion And Company Explained [Star Wars Canon + Legends]

- During the Clone Wars, The Grand Army of the Republic was vast, with around 3.2 million clone troopers being developed from the genetic template of bounty hunter Jango Fett. Tens of thousands of clone troopers were deployed during the1st Battle of Geonosis, to combat the Separatist Droid Army. The Galactic Senate gave Supreme Chancellor Palpatine authority over military affairs, as thousands of star systems joined the Separatist cause. The galaxy-wide conflict against the Separatists was fought from conflicts in the Outer Rim Territories, to the assault on the Republic’s Capital of Coruscant. The Grand Army of the Republic was comprised of many military groups and units, and in this video, we will be exploring all which have appeared throughout various movies, tv shows, games, comics, and books, from both canon and legends. Let us know in the comments which legion or other unit is your favourite!
The largest units that we will be looking at today, are the clone trooper Corps, which were made up of Four Legions of Clone troopers, totalling 36,864 soldiers. They were led by a Jedi General and a Clone Marshal Commander. Firstly, we have the 21st Nova Corps, more frequently referred to as the Galactic Marines. They were led by Clone Marshal Commander Bacara and Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi. Clone soldiers assigned to the 21st Nova Corps were known to possess remarkable discipline and were trained to operate in harsh and hostile conditions, for which they wore specialised armour. They most notably fought during the Mygeeto Campaign. Next, we have the 7th Sky Corps, led by Clone Marshal Commander Cody, and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Included within the 7th Sky Corps, were the 212th Attack Battalion, and both were equipped with armour with orange markings. Key battles that the 7th fought in, were on Christophsis, Ryloth, the 1st battle of Felucia, the 2nd battle of Geonosis, Umbara and Utapau. The 91st Mobile Reconnaissance Corps were placed under the command of Adi Gallia, and Clone Commander Ponds, until his death, where he was replaced by Commander Neyo. Jedi General Mace Windu also led units within the 91st, such as the 187th Legion, with Jedi Generals Oppo Rancisis and Stass Allie also taking command at various points of the war. With training in mobile warfare and reconnaissance, they were a smaller, more manoeuvrable corps of the Grand Army of the Republic. The 91st was frequently sent out to examine and secure passage for more powerful regiments. The battles of Ryloth, Malastare, and Saleucami were among the most significant conflicts that the 91st participated in. The 327th Star Corps were commanded by Clone Marshal Commander Bly and Jedi General Aayla Secura. Included within the 327th, were the 7th Legion. In addition to distinctive yellow insignia on their armour, pauldrons and kamas were provided as equipment for the corps higher ranking infantry. During the war, the Battle of Quell, the Siege of Saleucami, and the Battle of Felucia were among the corps' most significant engagements. The 41st Elite Corps was under the command of Jedi General Luminara Unduli, and Commander Gree, and included sub-units such as the 41st Scout Battalion and Green Company. During the defense of Kashyyyk, Jedi General Yoda supported Unduli and Gree in command. Although the 41st was a corps in its own right, it was organised as part of the 9th Assault Corps, which was similarly led by Unduli and wore the same armour. The identifying colour schemes for both the 41st and 9th varied considerably. Standard armour of both corps had green markings, and grey markings, depending on the terrain on which they were situated. Specialised camouflage armour was utilised for the Battle of Kashyyyk. In addition, they participated in the 2nd Battle of Geonosis and the Battle of Coruscant. Next, we have the 87th Sentinel Corps, which were distinguished by the maroon markings on their armour, and as a result of its proficiency in urban defensive tactics, they were regularly dispatched to Republic cities that were in risk of falling under Separatist control. Little more is known about them. Finally, we have the 416th Star Corps; a unit led by Jedi General K’Kruhk. They were known to have fought at the battle of Teyr, where much of the legion was wiped out. Unfortunately, there isn’t much else known about them.

quick addition . There were a few Clone Commanders, serving under a clone Marshal Commander. Thats why Bly (clone marshal commander), Neyo (same), Bacara(same) and Cody (same) lead corps together with their jedi generals. Those corps had a few lower ranked commander. Thats a point a lot of ppl are arguing that Gree, Fox, Wolffe and a few others were also Clone MArshal commander as they lead corps including other commander. just thought id say that :)

The 187th actually have two separate distinctions in current canon. The 187th Legion are the purple ones and are bigger in number and are Mace Windu’s elite. The 187th Battalion are smaller and specialize in urban warfare but can be changed to fit any number of battle situations, this unit featured Maroon markings similar to the clone who whore it before them, Commander Ponds, this battalion honors him by condoning the markings.

Also another tiny tiny error is that the 7th Sky corps & 212th Attack Battalion were more of an Orangish Yellow rather than a full on Orange. well at least in what I go off of which is The Clone Wars TV series.

@@skilledarma That's not how it works. Canon is what is officially recognised the the IP's owners. Even if it goes against the pre-established canon; that is just called bad writing, so yes it is canon and anyone saying it is not canon just doesn't know what the word canon means.

I agree with you that DIsney doesn't care are that LEGENDS material is better and more in line with the original star wars, but it is not CANON. Just because people who watch Star Wars don't like it doesn't make it not canon when it is literally the events the franchise recoginizes, which is quite literally what canon is.
Fun fact: The 104th legion (wolf pack) had maroon color marking so shown what a wolf could do to someone but the death of many troops when they were stranded in space they changed to grey to show they have hardened and strengthened

I think you mean Captain Rex. Appo followed Order 66 and served under Vader. Unless you mean he was at those battles as a stormtrooper

Also the 7th Sky Corps/212th in TCW always seemed to appear more of a Orangey Yellow or Yellowish Orange rather than full on Orange their colour sits somewhere between the 327th and the helmet piece of the 332nd (or full armour if you go by the novel version).
212th are my faves the seeing Orangish Yellow on the bois in TCW series alongside the bois in blue from the 501st series was always awesome.

The coruscant guard was twin unit too the 87th sentinel corps. Fox was the marshal commander of the 87th sentinel corps and after Palpatine passed a law allowing him to appoint law enforcement agency’s and destroy them at will to suit the republic and core worlds, marshal commander fox was chosen to pick every man in the newly formed coruscant shock trooper guard. He literally just took with him the whole damn 87th and changed the red markings on the armour to match that of sith warriors tattoos but of coarse nobody would recognize this given the order in wich the sith warriors existed hadn’t been around for over 1000 years. I know that was long winded but there’s actually more lore than people would suprise about the clones if only given so research time.
Considering the 87th Sentinel Corps was the default skin for battle of Naboo, it would be my educated guess that they belonged to the 17th Sector Army. And therefore served under one of the unmentioned Jedi High Generals. My guess: Depa Billaba.

There are only 80 Corps, doesn't mean they are all named from 1 to 80. I mean the US Army has the 101st Airborne Division; it doesn't have 101 active divisions.

I'm a big fan of the 41st Elite Corp. But I'm obligated to say that as I am a member
I think you explained some things a bit rough, not in really false but not right either. In real life military a General like Kenobi would be in command of an Battalion like the 212th, yes the the Colonel or Commander of the Battalion would get orders from a General but not directly. Yes we see Kenobi fight with the 212th and even Ghost Company but he wouldnt be directly in charge of them. I would explain like this: Ghost Company was lead by Lieutenant (later Captain) Waxer, Waxer would get his Orders from Commander Cody who was in charge of the 212th, the Corps was lead by General Kenobi. Also Cody wouldnt with Kenobi in command but his second in command, if Kenobi gets wounded or something Cody would step in like on Geonosis.
Similar with the 501st Torrent Company lead by Captain Rex, in an Battalion, Brigade or something similar lead by Commander Tano, wich was second in Command of the Legion later in the war Commander Appo. General Skywalker lead the whole Legion, gave orders to his Commander (Tano, Appo,...) and they to their Captains and Lieutenants (Rex, Vaughn, Jesse,...).
Yes Anakin fights directly with Rex but if he fights he has to be somewhere on the Battlefield so he chooses his best Company with his most trusted Captain.
So my question is because 1, love the comment. I wanted to break it down like this but was to lazy haha. But my question is what would be the case for Mace Windu and the 187th and 91st? The way I see that situation is, due to High Jedi status and rank, I would say that the 187th would be his “Personal Guard”. Example! Even though he didn’t fight, when Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf visited the battlefield, who was his personal bodyguard detail. SF. With probably a ranger battalion in reserve. What’s another thing rangers do? Reconnaissance. 91st with Ponds as his 2nd, that leads into battle on Ryloth. For those who say rangers don’t do reconnaissance, they do direct action, look up the LRRPs of Vietnam. Anyway, the 187th could very much be on the same tier as the 21st and 501st as far as fight prowess and brutality. I mean it’s Mace Windu, his troops wouldn’t be just any regular soldiers. But how do you explain that situation. Id love to hear your thoughts.
If I understand the question correctly, I‘d say that Windu has command over to units is either that 187th Legion is part of the 91st Recon Corps (because a Corps is bigger than a Legion) or Windu is a higher general rank than others (example Major General is above a Brigadier General). Otherwise the fact about the recon units in Vietnam is something I didnt know of, but it makes sense. So in that case that would make sense that the 91st isnt just for recon. About the personal guard thing I dont know, visualy it would make sense, with the connection to the pretorian guatd of the roman empire that wore aswell purple colours. Otherwise I dont have enough knowledge about personal guards in the Military, but that a whole Legion guards one General even if it is someone like Windu, I think is unlikely.

Orange is my color, but I am right on the cusp of brown (I scored 76). Because peace is always the ultimate goal, I would not want something super flashy, so I am thinking something like Jedi Master Tera Sinube’s sabercane. I would want something that I can take with me everywhere, so I’m thinking of a hilt made from Brylark tree wood to match the walking stick it would be attached to. My lightsaber would also be at the BOTTOM of my staff, again to signify it as a “worst case scenario”, if peaceful negotiations were not working. I would have the pommel (bottom) of my lightsaber as the claw of a Wampa so it doubled as grip for my walking stick and also just look cool. The rest of the staff would again be quite basic, to not draw attention to it. I’m thinking something similar to Chirrut Îmwe’s staff, but potentially made from roots from the Tree of Life from Kashyyyk, which were gifted to me after helping the Wookiees that protect the base of the tree. The staff would also be decorated with Shyyyo bird feathers to further enhance my relationship with nature.

GIVEAWAY ENTRY: My ideal saber would have a hilt similar to that of a Odachi or Katana which I can extend or break off of the hilt to provide as a extra guard since the metal I’d have for my saber would be from Neuranium. It would temporarily block light sabers to prevent a chance of my saber from being destroyed id have the threading of my saber be infused with Cortisis Ore that would short circuit my opponents sabers giving me a upper hand in a duel. The Kyber crystal id choose is the Kaiburr Crystal
I’d also have a blade at the end similar to Darth Malgus’s design however long enough to provide as a dagger.
I’d ideally like to have small components at the bud of my saber hilt that would have extra Cortosis ore shrapnel that I’d be able to use with the force to throw at my opponents, should they try and deflect it their saber would short circuit.
My saber to me is the ultimate duelist weapon as each component would give me a advantageous edge in battle. My sole objective is to be the only one alive. My kyber Crystal itself is said to be the strongest in Jedi history
Not only the saber itself but my Kaiburr crystal itself would amplify my force powers a thousand fold and grant me healing abilities making my physical abilities and force abilities that many times more powerful than my opponents
