First clean up in 30 years on our $500 65 Dodge Dart 2 door

แชร์

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 25 เม.ย. 2022
  • So this is our $500 65 Dodge Dart coupe that has been parked for around 30 years, it has a 225 slant 6 engine and column shifted 3 speed manual transmission (3 on the tree). In this video we finally clean and detail the car by vacuuming and pressure washing it. In the last video on this car we got it running after 43 attempts and using 24 volts. Stay tuned for more videos of us fixing the brakes and driving it for the first time.

Watching this from Australia mate. Leave the Slant Six in it. Rust proof it, lowered stance, white wall tyres, brake rebuild and a new exhaust throughout will put this car back on the road 👌🏻

Love that car! Great memories one of my brothers had a 65 Dart 2 door gold on gold interior, we pulled a 16 ft boat to the lake with it. Last car he bought before he went to Vietnam. He's ok today, Dart is a memory.

Oh, does this bring back memories...when I was a kid in the 60's my mom and dad had a 61 Dodge Lancer with the slant 6 and push button transmission. And just like your 65 Dart, the back floor pans had rotted out, and some of the carpet was gone. My instructions when getting in were to step on the bottom door frame, then over to the drive shaft tunnel with my other foot, and drop onto the seat. Under no circumstances was I to try to stand up or get off the seat while we were moving. I could literally sit there, look down through that hole and watch the road go by as we drove along. And if it was raining and the road was wet...yep, I would be wet too. Somehow I never did get sucked down that hole and out of the car.

Just a piece of advice, Josh, something I learned from my best friend Tim, who sadly passed in 2020. If you have a Keeper, after you’ve cleaned the interior plastics and vinyl to your satisfaction, use Old English Oil Soap on it. It’s way cheap, and coats of the oil will improve or at least stabilize the condition of geriartic plastics and vinyl. Do Not use Armor All - this will create cracks, unless you re-apply it regularly - I know this from personal experience. I use Old English Oil Soap on the dash and interior plastics of my 74 Celica and have for years. No cracks that weren’t there before I put the pieces in (it was a ground up resto, Tim and I finished 10 years ago). The oil will make the stuff shiny, of course. So fair warning on that. 😎👍

There is a 2V intake manifold for the 225. That and the correct carburetor will turn that into a Super Six. Me and a friend did that to his 65 Dodge A200 van. He wanted a little more horsepower and the new setup made a big difference.

A walk down memory lane when I ran across the video! I was raised in Juneau, AK, and my family bought a 1965 Dodge Dart 170 2-door model just like this when it was a year old in 1966. It was teal blue with a similar interior, though the cloth on our seats was a different pattern. It had rubber mat floors, 3 on the tree and the only "extra" was an AM radio. It also came with the "poverty hubcaps". The sound of this car running brought back a lot of childhood memories! This car replaced a 1950 Dodge Coronet Club Coupe that we had, and in late 1971 we sold this Dart and bought a new 1972 Dart Swinger. It had an automatic transmission, AM radio and carpet, so to our thrifty family we thought we had "arrived"! Ironically it came with "poverty hubcaps" also. Brent Long, Seattle WA

Looking forward to seeing the next video love what Y’all do. You’re creating project cars for the next owner down the road.

My aunt had a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger. She drove it for 14 years. Slant six was very dependable. Her car had the exact same factory wheel covers with Dodge printed in them. They belong to 1972 & 1973 Darts.

Easy way to get an engine running that doesn't have much compression is to put heavy gear oil in the cylinders. I have done it in the passed and worked great. Once the engine starts the rings free up and it is good to go.

That Dart is in a lot better condition than it seemed in the beginning. New floor pans and a fender will have it well on it's way. I have a feeling all of those mats and carpet pieces kept the floor wet most of the time or they would be as solid as the rest of the car. I used to think floor pans was a big deal until I'd seen them replaced. Not a big job for a good body shop.

wow !! it looks 100 % better !! sounds exactly like our Valiants over here in Australia, & a lot of the interior & some panels look the same or similar... great cars they were.... at least you don't have to fix the floors (there aren't any lol).... that blue colour really pops though... needs a muffler to help it run better.... i love when you drive them around the property... i do the same with my cars... & don't worry about number of projects... it keeps you OCCUPIED... & also the kids.... great stuff....

Maybe a good name for Rockys boy....Balboa? maybe Stony? since you have a Pebbles!🤔 Oh and a little bit of did you know on that Dodge emblem. The tri pointed shaped emblem in the center of the hood is called a Fratzog! Dumb info I know but I find that stuff interesting on these old cars!

I showed the little goats to my Wife and of course Rocky and the rest of the herd. She says they all are so cute. I think you have the best channel on youtube mate its educational with mechanic work and shows how you and our family are living a fantastic life and doing things together, good stuff. I am always looking forward to your next video. Y'all be safe and say hello to Rocky and his crew for us. Until next time dude, may God bless.

Another is washed up. Cars are looking good. Ready to see brake work and new casings and hoops. I got too many projects too. Just waiting for the weather to start cooperating. One day it is 80 and the next it is 40. Got to get with finishing up some things on my 75 Torino and get it on all 4 tires so I can get to my cam swap,2 bbl to 4bbl swap, get a tune up done, and change the oil. So I can start working on my 99 Dodge Ram 5.2L,change the heads on it. So I can start driving it.
