  • How many 11 year old boys get a Corvette for their birthday? Well Ralphie did when a fan sent him this 87 Corvette that hadn't ran in many years. In the last video we were able to get it running after going thru the fuel system and installing a security system bypass chip in the ECU. After spending way too much time looking for brake parts we finally just decided to simplify the process by getting everything in a kit from zip-corvette.com We also decided to go with Rocket Racing Attack hoops from holley.com Can we get this Vette back to being roadworthy and make it to Ralphie's middle school Basketball awards ceremony. Let's find out.
    Parts used in this video.
    DB-1183 BRAKE OVERHAUL KIT
    DB-606 BRAKE BOOSTER
    DB-430 MASTER CYLINDER
    TTR19-896160 ROCKET RACING ATTACK HOOPS

Dad: Give ‘er a rip. Just do it!
    Ralphie does a donut
Dad: Don’t tell mom I told you to do that!
    Ralphie: I won’t!
10 seconds later they pull up to mom….
Ralphie shouts “he told me to do it!”
    LOL!
You guys are so much fun to watch! Congrats to Ralphie on the Rookie of the Year.
And thanks. Now my 6yr old granddaughter wants baby goats.

    Fun fact ….
The C4 corvette had its brake parts sourced from Australia
At the time we in Australia had world leading brake technology due to our production car racing at Mt Panorama Bathurst
Our local cars all had 4 wheel disc brakes from approximately 1985 on
    Great video guys!

My dad and his brother worked at the Corvette plant, when it was in St. Louis. When it moved to Bowling Green, KY, my uncle moved with it. My dad stayed in St. Louis and transferred to the truck plant. My uncle told stories of them spinning the hoops out of the casings off the assembly line.

You guys have a lot to be thankful for. You got the vette fixed up , and running better, and the new hoops look great. I think the fuel filter may be clogged up, or the fuel pump is going bad. Congratulations on becoming the rookie of the year Ralphie. You may be the only kid, that Dad and Mom will have to ask you to borrow your car, for a Date Night. Love the channel, and how you work as a Family.

As a C4 owner, I would first check fuel pressure at idle and while revving the motor. Could be the new pump, sock or filter is clogged with grime that was already in the tank. Also could be the regulator. Pull the vacuum line from the regulator and be sure there isn’t any fuel coming out of the nipple.
You should also do the old paper clip trick and short the diagnostic connector under the dash and count the flashes of the check engine light to see if there are any codes stored. It should flash code 12 three times(once, pause then twice repeated three times), then any stored codes followed by another code 12. The service manual will show you which two pins to short. They’re right next to each other if memory serves.
You’ll figure it out. It definitely sounds fuel related to me.
The new hoops and casings look awesome!
Congratulations to Ralphie on his trophy! 🏆

      @@Sleeperdude One more tip:
I noticed both interior door lights seem to be on all the time. You may not realize that the white lens is also the on/off switch. Gently press on them to switch them on and off. If that doesn’t solve the problem, check your headlight dimmer switch by rotating it clockwise to be sure it isn’t in the fully counter-clockwise position which also turn all interior lights on. If that still doesn’t do it, you may have a faulty door pin switch but you “should” see a door or hatch ajar idiot light on the central panel if the door or hatch is open or if it thinks it’s open. Enjoy!

When I when I picked my 94 Ram about 8 years ago, I ended up going all in and replaced all of the brake lines, two rotors pads and calipers up front, rebuilt the rear brakes in the rear, changed out all the hoses. I learned from past vehicles that this is really the best way to go when you've had the brake system open for an undetermined amount of time. I've also towed and extensively off-roaded with the truck so it was nice to know that the brakes could keep up.

Awh, Man! What a cliffhanger! Oh so close and yet so far... why'd God put those hills there anyway? 😆Congratulations on Rookie of the Year, Ralphie! Tosh, I think you've got enough rows in the front yard to plant some flower seeds now. At least they are the skilled laborers. The wheels do look great, can't wait for the paint job. I think Tosh needs to take the vette to the track and test it out, no worries for hills or dips and gullies for the nose to get stuck in. (Gotchyourback, Tosh *wink*) Another great video. Way to go Ralphie, couldn't ask for a better first car. You're going to have the pick of the litter in school when you get ur license 👍😁. My first car was a 1966 mustang with the original 289 in it and velvet interior. Just FYI for you, the fuel pumps on these C4s are a common problem, if after replacing the fuel pump and you are still having starving issues, there are 2 oil sending units located back underneath and behind the distributor, if the smaller one is going bad, it will mess with the fuel pump as far as loosing contact. You do not need to pull the distributor but you will need to pull the wiper motor. Best thing to do is replace both sending units if you dig that far into it. I had the same problem on mine and it fixed the issue.

After all that time and work and still there's fuel issues. Man that's a a rough one. Can't believe that happened again to y'all. I know y'all got it figured out by now, just hoping it was something really stupid simple to fix.
This old vet looks like it needs itself some of those old school flames down the side of it. Based on the rip roaring around the yard that it's done so far, flames seem like a really good fit for this one. And as good fortune would have it, sleeperdude must have some experience on how to get them on there the right way. A slick new paint job and some flames, Ralphie will be all set to drive himself to high school! Great work on this one y'all. And once again, thanks for the translations for all us non Tennessee folks who don't understand that southern talk. Glad to see new wheels on the vette, looks great and hopefully it's a air sensor causing the problem. I had a 2010 Silverado for 5 years with the 5.3 ltre, ran great until it got cold weather eventually found out it was the throttle position sensor. Once I replaced the sensor and the gas pedal I had no more rough idle and could accelerate etc like normal, but with fuel injection almost anything could cause surges, loss of power.

  • @KIMVINSON

Engine is known to seize when water enters the engine air intake system. The air cleaner (located directly in the nose of the engine) allows water to flow into the cylinder chamber which causes engine lock up. Water can be pulled into the air intake system by the movement of air from the radiator fan when it is collected on the front air spoiler.
Engine stalls, surges and runs rough as the direct result of malfunctioning computer control module.
Engine tends to rev/accelerate uncontrollably during certain driving conditions, especially when the car has entered a turn/turning condition.

I had an 86 TPI auto like that one-- except mine was black with tan interior. The front Y pipe has what are called resonators on each side. They were designed to give the vette a tuned exhaust sound.... so it would not sound like your average farmer's TRUCK rolling around. Problem was? They are restrictive as hell. If you will cut OUT those resonators? You will get about ten more horse and also really HEAR that motor. They also sell a Walker front Y pipe that already eliminates the resonators, and all ya gotta do is sign the off road waiver at the place ya buy the Walker front Y pipe from.

Awesome video guys. Koolest part was when the both of you smiled at the same time. The look on both of your faces was exactly the same.
    Congrats Ralphie on the tuneup.
Could be the brand of gas. Had that issue back in the 90's on a Chevy I had that was about the same age as the Corvette. Changed out the gas and the issues went away.

Thank you, we are so glad you are working to finish a project. Please stick with it and finish the Vet before going off on other projects . FYI - It is a let down when you start projects (MG, RV, Falcon, ...) and then they sit and you never finish them or they return to disrepair again. Also, have you considered doing 30 min long reels maybe every 2 days verses hour long ones that come out about once a week? Shorter reels more often would be more enjoyable for us ... just a helpful suggestion. Love your fam!

Great job! I'm working on the brakes in my 69 Mercury but I'm having a hard time sourcing parts. At least with the Vette you are still able to find parts for it and will for a long time to come. 👍

Excellent video Sleepdude Crew Josh :) also change H2 sensor on manifold also 02 Sensor on by Catylic Converter to Corvette and plus Fuel Regulartor to plus Mass Air Flow sensor and run 5% 89 or 91 or higher octane has No Ethonal! Plus get Grey bottle of STP Total Treatment fuel injection and carb cleaner in fuel tank each month to ! Plus check on Computer plug in see what says on lope when doing too after cleaning out codes then engine and drive test to! May have Catylic Converter plugged up from sitting too and be a guess! OB1 tester should help check it out !

The sending unit is the fuel gauge. I had my car stall on me back in 2018 and it turned out the fuel pressure sensor was dead on the fuel pump. 10 minutes later and it hasn't stalled. 6 months later, the replacement part threw the same code and I ended up getting an ACDelco part and no codes.
