  • 32 years sitting in the forrest gave this car our official pine needle count record. When we first found this car you almost couldn't tell what it was for all the pine needles covering it up. It is a 78 Ford Fairmont with all the options it a 302 V8 with air conditioning, power steering, cruise control, and power brakes. For those that don't know about these cars they are the father to the Fox Body Mustang because they came out a year before the mustang went to the platform so they share all the mechanical parts with the Mustang. As badly as I want to get it running it is so dirty that we had to clean in up first. Hope you like the video and stay tuned for the upcoming will it start video!

I am an old car guy who never got married or had kids. I found your channel a while back, man you are so blessed. I love the cars but the adventures you get up to with all the family involved are absolutely great to watch, watched the $1200 camper ones back to back. I have been watching Goonzquad for a number of years and their family vibe along with wholesome content was what I liked, they are changing though, becoming money hungry and too slick. You have replaced them as my favourite channel. Keep up the great work and I will keep watching.

Sure the interior is baked but after the cleanup it's a solid car, and I am excited to see if she will fire up and run alongside the big-block Futura. I'm also hoping that the red brush painted boxtop Fairmont wasn't crushed so fingers cross!

Hey, Sleeperdude, love this car, I hope you go all the way with this one and make her shine again. But that's not why I am commenting. You asked in the video why does Rocky always want to eat cardboard? I can answer this as I have 40+ goats and actually run a goat care group. Rocky is lacking trace minerals. I noticed this a while ago, and Granny goat also lacks copper and Zinc. That reddish hue to their coat is a classic copper deficiency. Many states as well as Canada are deficient in selenium and copper so it's not anyone's fault, just that we need to supplement. Once you give copper you will see a big difference in their coats and shedding process. Sorry man, I couldn't help myself, but I am sure you understand I am only answering your question and answering with the best intentions at heart. I try not to miss an episode, love the cars and the family and your goats.

Those factory V8 Fairmonts and Zephyrs are pretty rare. I grew up in Dearborn when those were new, and didn't see many. I still remember going to the Lincoln Mercury dealer with my mom and dad back in 77 to order a new Zephyr wagon. I kept asking my dad to order the V8 because I would start driving soon. He ordered the straight 6 (200?) because that was right after the time of the OPEC "oil crisis". Warm over that little 302 and that would be a nice air conditioned sleeper, dude. Thanks for posting.

Thanks you for not playing terrible music and speeding up the cleaning. It's relaxing watching you power washing and even vacuuming. It's almost ASMR to my ears. My biggest pet Peeve is when some channels play terrible music and speed up the clip.

I'd be really pumped to see that engine get a nice 4bbl intake with a nice aftermarket 4bbl carb. It's clearly a smog engine, so it'll be gutless no matter what, but a 2bbl to 4bbl swap definitely wouldn't hurt. You ALWAYS got the hookups though. I've been dying to get my hands on a cool old domestic and they're impossible to find like that around Pittsburgh. They're either completely restored, completely picked through for parts, completely ridiculously expensive, or completely rusted.

I had a 78 Fairmont wagon bought new when I worked for Ford in the late 70's.l It was fully optioned 302 in a deep green metallic. Gogeous car and I loved it. The Cat plugged so I cut it out and the car went like a scalded cat. The 302 was 2 barrel only.

The interior on this Black Fairmont cleaned up pretty well! And after doing some research, I believe that car came originally with what Ford called a Targa style vinyl top in Red! Whoever bought that car from the get-go, really optioned it out!!!! Great video!!!!

It's really amazing as to how simple the "FOX Body Platform" was.
Basically the Fairmont FUTARA"?" was a Mustang that weighed about 200lbs more with a "less than" aerodynamic body...
Even the Straight-6 200 (if you could find one) was Very Reliable, since the Transmission would typically go out before the engine (with proper maintenance)!
Again, my first car (1992) was a 1978 Fairmont Sedan in Metalic Brown with the 200-6 and T-4"?" Transmission.
As I was a Business and Engineering Major in Hogh School, this car was absolutely perfect for me and my needs at the time!
My second car was a 1979 Mecury Zypher Fastback Coupe with the 302... I made alot of people angry with me, especially on the road.
That Zypher was such a "Demon in disguise" compared to the 5.0 Mustangs and Novas in my town.
-And I kept that car as stock "looking" as possible! RV Cam, 4-barrel Intake with a Holley and a custom built 9" Disc Rear Differential.

I had a 78 and an 81 Fairmont Futura. The 78 was a six cylinder and the 82 was a 255 V8. The V8s never came with a 4 barrel carb from the factory. Love the roofline on those cars. Ford used to make an upholstery cleaner called Triple Clean. It had a brush on the top of the bottle. That stuff was the bomb and cleaned up those grimy body sweat stained arm rests like nothing else.

The Fairlane Futura is one of the best looking cars Ford made in the late 70's in my opinion anyway. I've always wanted one to hot rod. Lots of them were turned into drag cars. I'm jealous. Hope you can get it back on the road.

Hi Guys, car turned out nice. I always liked that Ford body style car also. I always heard boxy when people described those cars and don't agree. The mid to late 70's the US car market was in transition and all the car makers were "finding their way". The Fairmont's a nice car. Well powered, nicely optioned and a comfortable ride. 1978 was 44 years ago. Eagles, Boston, Kansas, Rush, Led Zeppelin were popular. Jimmy Carter was president. The world was a different a vastly different place!
