@@MPD90 I use the a7iii with the 24-70, almost like my main combination (which is kinda of weird since I prefer primes). The a6400 is so darn small and easy to pack/carry. When I went to Iceland, I took just the a7iii with the 24-70. I may have taken my 85mm, too. I am still getting accustomed to both cameras and the choices of lenses available. Hope that helps.
I do agree, a6400 + 10-18mm seems like a compact point and shoot camera. Even if the lense is not for portrai shooting, it can get the job done in the crowd without having them to curious about. I took my a6400+10-18mm and the crowd is not mind as I seem like normal tourist with small point and shoot cam.
@SECRET SCRATCHER I actually just bought an a6300 and a Sigma 30mm lens last week haha. Probably gonna get the 16mm lens soon. The big definitely got me!
Been happy and surprised how good the 18-135 has been. That's what is on my 6600 95% of the time, and I have the 35mm 1.8 for a small fixed prime that give excellent results. Currently, can't even think of a third lens need. Something from the G or Master G series, but they are heavy and $.
18-135 is so versatile, and it is small and compact, you can take it everywhere and do so much with that zoom-range. It is also quite sharp. Only downside it is not very usable in low light situations. But your 35/1.8 helps you there, also a great lens. I own them both as well.
@@schnubbel76 No lens is perfect, But I think between those two lenses one is covered for 90% of what they want to do, and adding in the 70-350 (an amazing lens for the $) covers the other 10%. I have those three lenses now, the 18-135 still used most of the time.
Those are nice lenses but of course you'd agree it depends on the end application. In my case I take primarily portraits and events. The focal range I use most on my aps-c cameras fall in the 30mm to 85mm (127 in 35mm) range. My most wide angle is 16mm which I find suits my needs well and I have no use for wider. For portraits and indoor events I use primes with f1.4 or f1.8 which is outside the realm of most zooms. I do use zooms for vacation and walk-around lenses but not for my best work.
I really liked the recommendations. I'm going a slightly different route opting for the Sigma Trio with the 70-350 instead. My combo is not as versatile for run and gun but you can't speed and quality of the primes (and prices).
I am new to the world of lenses and cameras for photos and videos and I must say, this is a great video with great advice, information and reasoning to assist those who are wiling to learn. Everything is applicable to real life. You are one of the rare ones that clearly explain and that is a gift for which I am appreciative. Thank you!
I feel like for beginners you could go a cheaper route and head for more versatile lenses that arent as flashy for example at least 1 prime lens like a f/1.4 16mm, 30mm or 56mm sigma and then a versatile zoom like f/4 18-105mm.
If I am going somewhere and will want to take photos while I'm there, I will take a zoom. If however, I'm going somewhere just to take photos, I prefer primes.
@@MPD90 I see your point yeah... it really depends on what you want to shoot... for street photography for example, a prime is way better aswell as for portraits... but action and landscape dont need crazy bokeh, so a zoom gives an advantage with it's versatility... I love my zooms aswell, it's just way more easy... but sometimes a prime just gives a way nicer look and I would defently miss one, not only at night.
Nice video. I use the A6500 with the 10-18, 18-135 and 70-350. These lenses meet my shooting needs for the type of photography I do when I want to go light ( sunrise, sunset and wildlife).
I've been using the 70-350 lens for a couple of years and love it. The BEST telephoto lens for its price and weight (and I can carry this around all day without noticing; can't say the same thing about the Sigma 150-600, which takes good pics but weighs a ton).
An expensive kit, but this is a great recommendation. I'm not going to invest this much in glass until Sony drops a next-gen sensor into one of their aps-c cameras. For now, the A6000 and 18-105 does the job. If I had an unlimited budget though, your kit would be the way to go!
I recon you only need two for your Sony APS-C. The 10-18 F4 and the 18-200LE. I used the 10-18 85% of the time. Also great that they both use 62mm filters. PS, I don't even own the kit lens, I sold it due to never using it.
Nice! I have the kit lens, 16mm sigma. The 16-55mm and the 70-350mm. Totally agree. Have zero desire to purchase any other lenses after I purchased those last two lenses. It feels great!
I wish Sony would revamp the 10-18mm f4 to a 10-18mm f2.8 G. That would really complete the kit as the 16-55mm and 70-350mm is amazing but the 10-18mm is kinda lackluster compared to.
The 10-18 badly needs either a 50% price cut, a revamp or both. It's wildly too much money for the solid but unexceptional performance. Quite frankly, it doesn't stand up well to pretty much every other UWA zoom for crop sensor in the similar price range (like Fuji's decidedly better 10-24/4 OIS), its one redeeming quality is the AF, which is very good for video. It would be a good value at $400USD. Sony's FE 70-300G suffers from the same issues, performance of a $400 lens for $800 more than that. Son's APS-C line is very weak at the wide end, only the wide range of available 3rd party lenses rescues it. They've filled out a bunch of options on the long end, but only offer a single lens wider than 16mm (Fuji is the opposite, lots of wider options, but one lens longer than 230mm)
I am so incredibly new at this. I just got my hands on a sony A6600 What lens would work best for what I am trying to do? I am looking into filming illustration, and also filming B-roll and interviewing individuals.
I considered the Sony SEL 16-55 but resisted and I am glad I did. I now own both the Tamron 16-70 f/2.8 and Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. I use the Tamron on one camera for stills and the sigma on another camera with a gimbal for video. I also own the 70-350. These are the three lenses I now use almost exclusively. I also purchased the Tamron 11-20 f/2.8 to cover a wider range.
2 Years later, i would switch the Sony 16-55 F2.8for the Tamron 17-70 F2.8to get a little bit more Telerange and save some money. And the Sony 10-18 F4 i would switch for the Tamron 11-20 F2.8. A bit cheaper and more aperture even if you loose 1 mm wide angle. But at the time you did this videeo your choice made sense. The Sony 70-350 is the best Tele lens for the APSC cameras in my opinion, wouldnt change that.
I currently have almost the exact setup. Tamron 11-20 (it’s not perfect, but still the best wide angle zoom option to date IMO) Sony 16-55g (bought used, the price is justified) it was between this and the Sigma for me, I ruled out the Tamron early. Sony 70-350 (also bought used) what a great lens, this one.. I also have the Sigma 56 l. How can one resist? 😅
@@saifaldin_ Almost same setup as mine, only i chose Tamron over Sony zoom. Sigma 56 is a must have. Even if i dont use it that much. Couldnt resist, its too good.
Hi, I'm considering to buy an A7RIV and use those aps-c lenses (with crop mode) when traveling for the sake of light weight. Could you estimate how better (in terms of image quality) this combination is compared to the combination of A6500 with those lenses? Thanks!
Thanx for the recommendations, though, calculating the cost of those 3 lenses, I arrive at almost 3000$.... OMG!!! I am really thinking of buying the RX10 iv and forget about my mirrorless dream, unless I am approached to be a professional photographer in the coming week, which is a fat chance (it will also be lighter to carry around with me.)
I don't use APS-C Lenses for my A6600. Maybe because I also have Alpha 7 III. Anyway... My lenses are : Sony 24mm f1.4 GM Sony 35mm f.1.8 Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8 Sony 70-200mm f.4 With 2 camera bodies and 4 lenses , I cover everything I need.
I've been shooting a long time and have a full frame system. But, lately I thought I would pick up a new camera just for fun. I thought about getting a Fuji X-T2 and a standard zoom. But, since I shoot Sony cameras and lenses, I decided to get the a6600, 16-55 G, and 70-350mm G. Maybe the 10-18mm wide angle zoom that I tried is a bad copy, but I cannot recommend that lens. I'll use this system when I don't want to take my full frame system. I agree, this is a great system for beginners. If you can't afford to buy the whole system, buy the body and the 16-55mm G and add the 70-350mm G when you can.
I'll skip the 16-55 cos of less useful for me, but 18-135 is just for in case. May get the 70-350 to replace the 18-135&200-600 combination in future if can't stand the weight anymore.... My travel combination is 10-18 & 18-135 & 200-600.
Sony 10-18mm f/4*, Sony/Zeiss 16-70 f/4* and Tamron 70-180 f/2.8 (Note that this lens was designed for Full Frame so on an APS-C, it gives an effective max focal length of 270mm). * Note: I use my A6000 primarily underwater in a Nauticam housing and the 10-18 and the 16-70 lenses use the same lens port. This sames me hundreds of dollars compared to buying a different lens and the appropriate lens port.
Hi,thanks for the review.I love the photos you've shown in the video. My three favouite Sony Aps lenses are:the Sony 10-18 mm f/4;the Sony Zeiss 16-70 mm f/4: and the Sony 35 mm f/1.8. Bye!
Just picked up the Sony 70-350 to pair with my Tamron 17-70. Will be selling off my Sony 18-135mm. I own both the Sony 10-14 and Tamron 11-20 but not sure which of the wide angle lenses to keep. Tamron’s appeal is f2.8 aperture and weather sealing while the Sony’s appeal is OSS and a tad bit wider at 10mm. What should I do?
I really liked your video but I’ve got to ask . What are the lights in the right side of the video ? Circular multi colored ? It just about looks like a JBL Party speaker
I think beginner photographers should have none of those lenses. They teach you to be lazy, to not think about where you should stand for the best shot, where the camera should be. I was using my 12-100 recently, it's a pro lens, but the temptation to shoot from where I was was immense.
Awhile back I got from eBay a used a6300 with only 20mm 2.8 pancake lens attached. It serves as my small get and go hand holdable live view camera for initial test and preview shoots before engaging my bulky Nikons. I have it with me wherever I go in my travels. But I stuck to the pancake lens and never had any other. For me, it was just right for my needs.
Great review in my need 16 to 350 Apsc with the last x2 is amazing. Getting rid of my primes as I won't carry them, no need as they are the best cross section of performance for travel.
Tamron 17-70 f/2.8 & Tamron 70-180 f/2.8. The 70-180 is a full frame lens, but I don't think there are any 70-200ish lenses for Sony APSC that are fast. I also have the Sigma trio and with this most of my needs are met, and on the occasion that I need a super telephoto I can rent something like the Sigma 60-600 for a weekend.
Stefan Malloch Now sigma also have 100-400 DG DN Contemporary lens for Sony E mount or Mirrorless camera and that’s why I am confused that wheather I can go with Sony 70-350 or Sigma 100-400
I would like the SEL1018. I have an SEL18200LE which is fairly good and versatile with it's large range. Those would make a great pair I think. I also have the 20mm that I rarely use unless I want something compact (or to put it on my drone) and I have the SEL35F18 which is great for low light with its F1.8. The SEL1670Z would be really nice with its constant aperture but then that's doubling up on focal lengths.
Just bought both the Sigma 100-400 DG DN OS, and the Sony 70-350 to compare which to keep. I expected the Sigma to win. Technically, it is a much better lens. But for me, as hard as I tried to prove the Sigma, the Sony outperformed it. Surprised me, and saved me over $200! And it is a perfect partner for my sel18135, which is an awesome and affordable lens. Those would be 2 of my choices, and I am still on the hunt for a good wide angle lens.
Hello I have seen a lot of reviews and I think I will buy the 6600 can you recommend me a good lens for pictures and can you tell me if my decision is right to get 6600
Once you are addicted to quality its hard to move back, definitely its hard with 10-18, at least for me sharpness and colors are important. 16-55 is obvious perfection but not so sure about 70-350. Shooting with f1.4 and f6.3 is way different, though primes got no zoom, and apsc no dedicated 56+ lens, 105mm f1.4 sigma would make some worthy shots at 157mm. Zoom is great but its not all, if you can shoot at low iso, with dreamy bokeh, you wouldn't care about additional 1.6kg in your bag. As for superwide I would either buy laowa 9mm or FullFrame camera with 12-24 lens. There is just so much you can do about missing lens, so lonely in apsc emount lens space.
I watched Arthur R’s review. Without doing pixel peeping when “punched” in, how do the Zeiss 16-70 and the G16-55 compare with regard to a well made 11x14 print.? Sharpness, color and bokeh?
@@MPD90 Thanks for your input. For me as a casual consumer though avid photographer I've decided to go with the Zeiss and not pay the $400-600 premium for the 16-55G. The Zeiss won't hold me back from the Pulitzer haha
I have an 18-105 g oss lens. it pairs up with the 10-18 perfectly, picks up where the other lens left at the same f4 apperture. the stabilisation on this zoom is awesome, it has internal zoom so it does not extend and yeah, it`s a versatile work horse. all it`s missing is maybe an f2.8 or lower. the 10-18mm would need the better apperture even more than the 18-105 though.

@@UrbanGardenbyRithy Agreed. Thank you for sharing.
I don't even have a camera yet here I am, watching the whole video.
😂🔥
@SECRET SCRATCHER I actually just bought an a6300 and a Sigma 30mm lens last week haha. Probably gonna get the 16mm lens soon. The big definitely got me!
SAME, hahahahha!!
lmaooo
I agree 100%. I don't have 16-55 yet but that's because I just bought 24-70 Sigma for A7iii.
For full frame, it's gonna be Tamron 17-28, 28-75 (or 24-105), and 70-300. This combo actually costs less than the apsc counterpart though.
@@frankfeng2701 nope, g master trinity all the way.
The middle one - I would suggest to look at the new Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 for the Sony APS-C. Cheaper and has image stabilization.
And 70mm! I use I this tamron lens on 70mm a lot
got tamron 17-70, it's surprising sharp, almost sharp as sigma trio.
Been using this lens for my TH-cam videos and shooting performances and it’s a beast! Sold off my sigma trio for this lens and have never looked back.
Of course. This was just to capture a huge general range. 😀
Thank you!
Thanks friend!
@@StefanMalloch perfect wxcapt 10-18 i wold chose 11_20 tamron intead
I feel like for beginners you could go a cheaper route and head for more versatile lenses that arent as flashy for example at least 1 prime lens like a f/1.4 16mm, 30mm or 56mm sigma and then a versatile zoom like f/4 18-105mm.
true, but for vlogging, you need that 10-18. no stabilisation in the sigma 16 makes it look too shaky on video.
For full frame it would be the 16-35/4 Z, 24-105g/4 and the 100-400GM.
The sigma trio + Sony 10-18mm + Sony 18-105 mm and you’re golden.
Except if you want to capture small birds. Also I choose samyang 12mm f/2 instead of the 10-18 for the aperture
@@MarijnvdZaag tamron will release 11-20mm 2.8 soon so I’ll choose it over Sony 10-18 and the Samayang 12 mm
I mean, just crop a little and/or move the camera a little forward... Why would you pay 400 extra to not have to do that?
@@MarijnvdZaag I haven’t bought the 10-18 mm yet, I considered buying it.
I have the sigma trio and I was thinking about adding zoom lenses.
prime lenses hone your craft.
zoom lenses bring versatility.
It's your choice.
Prime for me.
prime 1.4 for the win,,, I use nd filter when hike]vlogging for that bokehlicious background
Both.
If I am going somewhere and will want to take photos while I'm there, I will take a zoom.
If however, I'm going somewhere just to take photos, I prefer primes.
@@MPD90 but it only has f2.8, the sigma primes are 1.4...
It would be helpful if you could make another video about your favorite 3 budget lenses.
3 Great options if you're not a fan of primes. Nice video.
Very true!
Samyang 12mm f2 , sigma 30mm F1.4 , Sony 18-105 f4
Nice video. I use the A6500 with the 10-18, 18-135 and 70-350. These lenses meet my shooting needs for the type of photography I do when I want to go light ( sunrise, sunset and wildlife).
I just picked up an A6600 with the 18-135 kit lens, and was considering those other two to round out the group. Glad to hear you enjoy them!
People want to get lenses others have, but don’t consider what they themselves shoot. Whatever works for you, is what you should ultimately consider.
I've been using the 70-350 lens for a couple of years and love it. The BEST telephoto lens for its price and weight (and I can carry this around all day without noticing; can't say the same thing about the Sigma 150-600, which takes good pics but weighs a ton).
my optics choice for Sony A6500 and A5100: sigma 16 mm f1,4, sigma 19 mm f2,8, viltrox 23 mm f1,4, sigma 30 mm f1,4, sigma 56 mm f1,4
You can leave out the sigma 19 then, can't you?
I’ve started a new job and need a lens good for recording fitness classes. What would be the best to get? I already have the sigma 16mm f/1.4
An expensive kit, but this is a great recommendation. I'm not going to invest this much in glass until Sony drops a next-gen sensor into one of their aps-c cameras. For now, the A6000 and 18-105 does the job. If I had an unlimited budget though, your kit would be the way to go!
I have 6400 with 18-105 just pick 55-210 for $130
I recon you only need two for your Sony APS-C. The 10-18 F4 and the 18-200LE. I used the 10-18 85% of the time. Also great that they both use 62mm filters. PS, I don't even own the kit lens, I sold it due to never using it.
I'm agree but to cover the central range I select the SEL 1670Z F4.0 because the price of 1655G F2.8.
Nice! I have the kit lens, 16mm sigma. The 16-55mm and the 70-350mm. Totally agree. Have zero desire to purchase any other lenses after I purchased those last two lenses. It feels great!
This legit the best recomendation here on yt.
How is 18 to 135 which can be purchased as a kit. Comparing to yours?
The 350mm with a A6000. What do you think?
Currently just the a7 III - TAMMY 17-28mm + 28-75mm. I'm gonna add the 28-200mm as my telephoto.
@@adam_mawz_maas yeah, why i had to go to full frame. Tamron 17-28mm kills the Sony 10-18mm f/4.
@@adam_mawz_maas yeah man it's crazy how bad the lens is for the money. Better is the samyang 12mm or the tamron 11-17
@@krishnaanand3413 I think you mean the Tamron 11-20mm f2.8. I own both but I really wish the Tamron had OSS or VC like the Sony 10-18mm f4
I am so incredibly new at this.
I just got my hands on a sony A6600
What lens would work best for what I am trying to do?
I am looking into filming illustration, and also filming B-roll and interviewing individuals.
I considered the Sony SEL 16-55 but resisted and I am glad I did. I now own both the Tamron 16-70 f/2.8 and Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. I use the Tamron on one camera for stills and the sigma on another camera with a gimbal for video. I also own the 70-350. These are the three lenses I now use almost exclusively. I also purchased the Tamron 11-20 f/2.8 to cover a wider range.
Hi, Please let me know, is the tamron not better than sigma for videos? due to focal length range or any particular issue?
2 Years later, i would switch the Sony 16-55 F2.8for the Tamron 17-70 F2.8to get a little bit more Telerange and save some money. And the Sony 10-18 F4 i would switch for the Tamron 11-20 F2.8. A bit cheaper and more aperture even if you loose 1 mm wide angle. But at the time you did this videeo your choice made sense. The Sony 70-350 is the best Tele lens for the APSC cameras in my opinion, wouldnt change that.
I currently have almost the exact setup.
Tamron 11-20 (it’s not perfect, but still the best wide angle zoom option to date IMO)
Sony 16-55g (bought used, the price is justified) it was between this and the Sigma for me, I ruled out the Tamron early.
These are the 3 APS-C lenses that I use on my A6500 and A7RIV.
1. 10-18mm f/4
2. 16-50mm f/2.8 DT A-mount
3. 18-135mm
4. 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3
Hi, I'm considering to buy an A7RIV and use those aps-c lenses (with crop mode) when traveling for the sake of light weight. Could you estimate how better (in terms of image quality) this combination is compared to the combination of A6500 with those lenses? Thanks!
@@hoangcuongceo The images look better coming from the A7RIV. You also have better AF. You can also shoot these lenses in FF and then crop.
@@rvg1997 Thanks!
Thanx for the recommendations, though, calculating the cost of those 3 lenses, I arrive at almost 3000$.... OMG!!!
I am really thinking of buying the RX10 iv and forget about my mirrorless dream, unless I am approached to be a professional photographer in the coming week, which is a fat chance
(it will also be lighter to carry around with me.)
I don't use APS-C Lenses for my A6600. Maybe because I also have Alpha 7 III.
Anyway... My lenses are :
Sony 24mm f1.4 GM
Sony 35mm f.1.8
Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8
Sony 70-200mm f.4
With 2 camera bodies and 4 lenses , I cover everything I need.
I wish Sony would make an equivalent of the 70-200 for apc cameras, like fuji has the 50-140 f/2.8
Great review. Would the 70-350 compliment my A6000?
Definitely.
All I needed was Tamron 17-70 f2.8 and sony 90mm f2.8.
Thanks for the recommendation, I am now using Sigma 18-50 as always.
3 lenses i want:
Sigma 56mm 1.4
Sigma 16mm 1.4
Sigma 85mm 1.4 art
Bonus:
Samyang 12mm f/2
What video editing program do you use to edit those fantastic lens you recommend
Hi,thanks for the review.I love the photos you've shown in the video.
My three favouite Sony Aps lenses are:the Sony 10-18 mm f/4;the Sony Zeiss 16-70 mm f/4: and the Sony 35 mm f/1.8.
Bye!
Good choices!
On my A6100 I have the 10-18, 16-70 (mine is not decentred) and the 70-350. The 16-70 I prefer over the 18-105 because of the size.
i am thinking of upgrading from 50-210 to 70-350. not sure am I doing it right.
Big upgrade!
very nice review!!! not even a sony oenwer BUT I like the focus you have! thanks for the reviews!
Thanks for watching!
I have four, Samyang 12mm AF, Tamron 17 to 70mm f2.8, Sigma 30mm f1.4 and the Tamron 18 to 300mm.
I fully agree with your review. Great job!
I really liked your video but I’ve got to ask . What are the lights in the right side of the video ? Circular multi colored ? It just about looks like a JBL Party speaker
Thats my ridiculous rgb cpu lol
I'm already happy with the sony kit lens 16-50mm. can't wait to try these.
What type of photography are you doing with the kit lens ?
I'm planning on upgrading to a full frame soon. Which lense should I use that will also be good to have on a full frame?
Great review in my need 16 to 350 Apsc with the last x2 is amazing. Getting rid of my primes as I won't carry them, no need as they are the best cross section of performance for travel.
Tamron 17-70 f/2.8 & Tamron 70-180 f/2.8. The 70-180 is a full frame lens, but I don't think there are any 70-200ish lenses for Sony APSC that are fast. I also have the Sigma trio and with this most of my needs are met, and on the occasion that I need a super telephoto I can rent something like the Sigma 60-600 for a weekend.
Good range covered here. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
If you want to choose between Sony 70-350 vs sigma 100-400 dg dn for Sony aps-c , which one you choose ? 😋
The Sigma is a full frame lens. The Sony is an aps-c.
What about for video...? Or would the same lenses work for video?
I swear by the 18-105 f4
Hello I have seen a lot of reviews and I think I will buy the 6600 can you recommend me a good lens for pictures and can you tell me if my decision is right to get 6600
if your budget is there, get the tamrob 17-70mm
How does the 16-55 compare to the older 16-70? I get the speed difference but how’s the IQ? Is it worth the money for a A6600?
See Auther's video, he already done the comparison
I watched Arthur R’s review. Without doing pixel peeping when “punched” in, how do the Zeiss 16-70 and the G16-55 compare with regard to a well made 11x14 print.? Sharpness, color and bokeh?
@@MPD90 Thanks for your input. For me as a casual consumer though avid photographer I've decided to go with the Zeiss and not pay the $400-600 premium for the 16-55G. The Zeiss won't hold me back from the Pulitzer haha

Sony 2.8 16-55 + Sony 5100 is ok? Or 6100 is much better?

I have an 18-105 g oss lens. it pairs up with the 10-18 perfectly, picks up where the other lens left at the same f4 apperture. the stabilisation on this zoom is awesome, it has internal zoom so it does not extend and yeah, it`s a versatile work horse. all it`s missing is maybe an f2.8 or lower. the 10-18mm would need the better apperture even more than the 18-105 though.

How about what lense should you buy when first buying the Sony a6400? Thinking of getting the camera for my 16 year old daughter to get started in photography. Can't afford an $800 to $1,200 to start off.
I would recommend a basic zoom to start. 18-105 or 18-135. The kit lens will be fine as well while learning. Hope that helps
The current package options on Amazon are:
16-50mm for $998?
18-105mm for $1,546?
18-135mm for $1,298?
35mm for $1,371?
Sounds like the 18-135mm is the happy medium. $1,546 is a bit too expensive.
Thanks for sharing man, 10-18mm F4 am looking for. Keep doing.
