Well, this newbie just finished pulling a 2.95 gearset out of a broken Camaro case, rebuilding it and putting it into a S10 case, all with your help! I even got the roller bearing spacer from Hanlon that you described in your book. This will be going into my 54 GMC project truck, behind a 327 for a cruiser that I am also upgrading to a Chrysler 9.25" rearend with 3.55 gears. I'll be refreshing another S10 case with the ML3 3.76 gearset and will be selling it, if anyone is interested! 😄 Thanks again Paul!
Your “work bench” is like mine; in that I know where everything is at. Once in a while I don’t put a tool back where I can put my hands on it…….. then I recall what my Dad said 55 yrs ago, “just put it back where ya got it ; then any of us can go right to it 😁
what a wealth of knowledge! I need to go through my T5. Gotta get a rebuild kit, watch all of your video's a couple of times, buy your book and read it several times. Then just go for it.
Fantastic detailed information. I bought your book last year, it was a HUGE help for me assembling my 1st ever manual trans. The t5. Good detailed, close up, in focus, common language Info like this channel is hard to come by. Thx paul
If you need a video idea, I’d love a walk through of WC/NWC electrical sensors/switches that plug into the unit. What do they do, how they work, and any other important tid bits you’ve learned about them over the years. Thanks for the great work on these videos and your book, they were instrumental in doing my rebuild.
Thank you for sharing your years of experience. Enjoyable, and educational, watching a professional at work. Its the small details that matter, and that's only achieved thru years of building. A rebuilders table is his table, no one else's, organize it the way it works for you.
Guessin’ you didn’t do PRI this year. Have enjoyed your PRI visits in the past, for actually showing the tech side, versus others, whose videos are like Christmas shopping with the wife.🙄😬 Don’t know if it helps, back in the day, if I had occasion to have to heat bearings and such, for assembly, I had a cheap home fryer with ATF in it, that let me set a temp, and get the bearings etc, heated, to be pulled out for installation as assembly progressed. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Paul. I’m rebuilding a T5 NWC at the moment and this video has been very helpful. I’m about to install the input shaft however I cannot find the “needle roller spacer” and are pretty sure there was not one when I disassembled it as I would of bagged it up with the needle rollers, thrust washer and thrust bearing if there was. Can you confirm that the NWC needs the “needle roller spacer” or can it be run without it. Thanks very much.
I just disassembled my 87 (WG 13-52-157 ). It has no input pocket roller bearing spacer. The main shaft, input shaft pocket, rollers, needle bearing and thrust washer are in excellent condition. Did some NWC not have the spacer?
I have another question. There is for and aft movement of the counter gear set. I went through the Tremec service manual and could not find a spec on how much front to back on the counter shaft is acceptable. (Tail housing installed, movement limited by the thrust plate and rear needle bearing)
Any idea when you’ll have world class kits back in stock. The web site shows out of stock. Mine is starting to grind if I speed shift it, so I’ve been taking it easy. Kinda scared to buy anything off the internet due to some of the issues you’ve shown in some of your other videos with these kits.
I'd never do this myself. The knowledge you have is priceless, IMHO. I would happily pay you to rebuild my transmission at some point. It's a T-56, application is a 2005 Cadillac CTS-V, track car. Do you work on these???
I am using your excellent video to rebuild the t5 in my 83 cj7. I purchased a new 3rd gear for my year and model but the tooth count is 27 instead of 29 like my original. The outside diameter is .055" less than the original. Should I use this? When ordering, they don't tell you the tooth count. Can you advise me?
You have to use the matching counter gear to go with that. The 29 tooth gear always broke so they made it roughly the same diameter with less teeth making the tooth profile thicker. So there's also a new account of gear that goes with that. If you broke a gear the matching gear is also going to be broken anyway or damaged or bent. So change the counter gear
I have a Borg-Warner 5sp, that came out of 1977 buick skyhawk w/231ci motor. You claim T5 was not produced until mid to late 80's, if so, what is this tranny called if not a T5? from what i've been told by other mechanics n motorheads is this is a T5 with fiber synchroz, if i put any real hp in front of it i need to add brass synchoz to handle extra torque. wud you recommend any additional changes ? going behind a factory 5.3LS...just a daily driver square body..thanx for all videos, very informative
So I’m trying to figure out why my input won’t spin the moment my tail housing is bolted on will spin if I unbolt the housing output has no problem spinning
So I just got a 93 S10 and according to the VIN it has a ML-3 5 speed transmission. In my effort to find information on it I keep coming across this T5. Are those the same? What am I missing? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
I have a 1983 Jeep CJ7 with a t5 transmission. I need to replace the lower gear cluster. I find them on eBay but are the gears all the same or do I need a specific tooth count? Do you sell the rebuild kits and the parts I will need? I would like to order from you if you have them. Your videos are a huge help.
ive taken a crash course in transmissions this week ive used all your videos to save my ass when the retainer spring and tangs fell out the gear set by the input shaft, in doing that i have noticed missing parts already, ( gearbox had the 3rd gear synchro replaced prior to my purchase of the mustang) the input shaft has excessive play up down side to side, is this rectified via a new retainer or shime, or is the box ruined? the noise was aweful and had me thinking i had a failing main or rod bearing. im in new zealand and have the drags coming next month, i will email you via your website if you could help please
Thanks mate. Any idea when this will be? I see Loctite can be sent to express so please don't include that item. I look forward to buying one! @@GearBoxVideo
Have you rebuilt many T45 manual transmissions. I can’t find much information on rebuilding one. I have 98 cobra and seems like when the gearbox heats up from driving it gets harder to shift. I have changed the fluid used to correct type and amount. It has done this prior to when I changed the fluid
Hard shifting when heating has nothing to do with the trans but everthing to do with poor clutch release. And the T45 is like a T5 without a top over. Parts are hard to find now

Christmas came early! My 1983 Nissan 280ZX Turbo NWC T5 can finally be rebuilt! Thanks Paul!
I bought your book Paul, Thanks for putting out this content.
Another awesome video! I’m putting an S-10 T5 behind a flathead Ford and your videos have been invaluable. Thanks for all you do Paul!
Appreciate you watching
Love this channel; tapered bearings I always set on an incandescent light bulb (parts washer light) for 10-15 minutes and slid 'em on.

Always good to see you Paul . Thanks for the videos. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.
Thank you . Happy holidays
Thank you for your time; always a lot to learn from these videos.
You could do the same video over and over and i still would watch it.
I have watched them all several times
As have I!
Thank you
Thank you
awesome content - taking the mystery out of the box....

There is no reason to use hot oil. In a shop that would be a safety issue. Just use a hotplate. But always an infered temp gun
Absolutely spectacular video on how to get her done on a T5 rebuild thanks for the video and sharing your knowledge
Good to see this😊
Have a great Chrissy and new year bud!
Good job sir 👍👍

Some units do not have them
Great video! Can’t wait for the next one :)
Great instructional video. I ordered your book.

@@GearBoxVideo Thank you,, well my shop is clean and organized now.. I thought that washer/spacer went dancing across the floor.
Sorry about your sister and mother. ❤ Just bought your manual on Amazon. Seen ur video with Eric awhile back. Great videos man!🤘
thanks
Do you have a part number for the input needle bearing spacer? Shown @37:16 in the video.
Thanks again for the video !
Very helpful
I do not
Great instructional video Paul! Thank your efforts! I wonder have ever come across a R154 5-speed?
get that rebuilt kit together....Im ready to buy the T5 kit

Its because its non adjustable. What ever it is ...it is
Hi Paul I got a t5 83 world class that I want to rebuild with better gear can you do the job for me ?
Sorry I cannot
I have a 1998 S-10 with 345,000 miles on it. Where do you get the rebuild parts from?
I see you’re using synchromesh while assembling. Can I also use this to fill entire case. What brand do you recommend? Thanks.
No recommendations, all brands seem to be good
I was just wondering on the Borg Warner 4+3 overdrive unit how many clutches and steel plates it took for the outer and inner ???
Depends on the year. Be specific as to what you have
1984 c4 corvette 4+3
4 od and 5 direct
Thank you so much

I did but am no longer rebuilding units
Is Ford Cosworth T5 WC or non-WC box
Its World class

Those had a T50 not a T5. Casting numbers are 13-38 . No top cover
So I’m trying to figure out why my input won’t spin the moment my tail housing is bolted on will spin if I unbolt the housing output has no problem spinning
Is this the box that you adapted for the E type Jag?
No, it was a world class. There is a specific video called JT5 development on this channel
hey paul i’m looking to buy a world class t5 rebuild kit GM says they are out of stock how long
till they are back

It is not. I believe it was a new venture unit
Thank you

Many people sell that stuff on Ebay . But I will be stocking some parts soon
I would also like to know a reputable place to get parts from.
I am trying to find a rebuild video for a New Process A833 transmission
There is my book building and modifying high performance manual transmissions and they're also is a book by car tech books on the a833
Thank you!@@GearBoxVideo
Hi Paul I live in Australia and I'm trying to purchase one of your T5 support plates. How can I do this? Thanks mate.

Once again....The Lionell Messi of transmission builds as well as demonstrating EXCELLENT STEWARDSHIP in what it means to be an instructor.
Part 3 possibly soon?
Yes ... In the works
Can any T5 be converted into a world class?
No you cannot
Another great video Paul! I have a question. I have a non-WC T5 in my Jeep. What fluid do you recommend running in the non-WC T5s?
mercon or dexron or any synchromesh fluid
the nose knows 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
😀😀My nose is a product of living in the Bronx
