  • VCT phasers are often overlooked on the 5.0 coyote engines. If you are conducting a camshaft install or rebuilding your engine, simply cleaning the outside of a phaser will not remove the sludge and oil build up from inside. Taking apart a phaser can be a challenge if you’ve never done it before. This video shows in detail how to disassemble clean and re-assemble your VCT Phasers.

Riddle me this. Coyote has a knock. Knocking sound at 2500 rpm pretty consistent. Knock at hot idle but not always. Usually it knocks 4 knocks once per second in a cycle with only a second or two between cycles. Sometimes it knocks once per second non stop, goes away with slight throttle. Sometimes no knock at all sounds great, but less frequently lately.
Used to have the knock a few months ago so I changed to e85 and it seemed to go away. Changed to the new valvoline clean and restore oil 5w 30 as usual and it came back pretty much next day.
Gonna switch to mobil 1 10w 40 and see if anything changes. Used 5w 30 pennzoil ultra platinum prior to valvoline.

Would be very helpful to say the star head bolts are reverse thread. Broke 4 before I figured it out trying to rebuild the exhaust side phaser

How did you get the ARP 156-1006 to work? The OEM bolts are reverse thread and ARP bolts wont thread into the phaser

Do you know what the Oem part numbers are for the outer bolts?

Thank you, those look like the 3 inner hex head bolts. I thought the outer were the 6 star shaped bolts.

@@ColbySlade ford doesn’t offer any other torque to yield bolts for the phaser other than the part number I gave. If these are not the bolts that you are looking for, you need to buy the entire phaser assembly from ford because they don’t sell the other bolts separately. You could literally just buy the ARP bolts like the video provides. Being a cheap ass rarely works out in your favor.

Super informative video I got a quick question What did you use to clean them liquid wise, gasoline, carb cleaner degreaser, and did you oil them or assemble it dry

You can use parts degreaser, brake clean, gasoline if you wanted. Wipe dry and assemble with a very small amount of fresh engine oil. You don’t need to dunk the hole thing in oil just a couple drops on the spring, small black pieces, and where metal to metal contact occurs.

OEM Hardware - All Bolts are Torque to Yield and need to be replace everytime they are removed
      Inner - 15 Nm (133 lb-in) + 90 degree turn
      Outer - (180 lb-in) or 15 ft-lbs
      ARP Hardware - Reusable
      Inner - 33 ft-lbs
      Outer - 15 ft-lbs
