  • Internal workings of the Coyote camshaft Phasers. How they work and why oil pressure and viscosity is important. Especially with loose bearing clearances, big cams and stiff valve springs.

    I am so glad you made this video... everyone argues with me that 5w20 is the best for these motors because the vvt channels need thinner oil to maintain pressure and flow, i keep trying to tell people that the 20viscosity oil is FOR EMMISIONS STANDARDS ONLY

      What oil viscosity do you recommend for this?

    Great information. Sounds like all this needs to be taken under consideration when building a motor.

    So my 2019 Cam Phaser Solenoids were sticking. I really suggest listening for this issue if you have the 2019 Gen 3 coyote. If you rev up to 2000 rpms and let go. You might here a slight ting from the upper front of the engine. You can unhook the solenoid and the sound disappears to be sure of it. Really hope this helps out anyone.

    Best explanation I've seen to date

    Great video. Very nicely explained. My 2015 is doing the classic ruff idol abd sometimes nearly dies at the stop light. But I am not getting an engine light. My first thought was the selenoids or the phasers. What is your thought? I do have a scanner and i can see where the cam timing drops drastically when this happens but no codes or engine light. Help please.

    Is there any way that I can get in contact with you. I have a huge amount of camshaft codes and I could really use some help. I bought a complete lemon

    Do you think its ok to run 5w30 on a stock Gen 3 coyote? mostly driven street and see the drag strip once or twice a year. Or should I run 5W50 during track runs and is it ok to change oil weights several times a year

    My gen 3 coyote is currenty in at the dealer for codes 0021 and 0022, they are changing the chains and guides not the phasers, vcts were changed 15k miles ago same code then, i dont see why they would'nt change it all?

    Could this cause a cam phaser to act up intermittently if the incorrect oil is used in a built motor application

    So if you had a pin stuck in the out position on the vvt solenoid exhaust side it could cause it to be more advanced on the exhaust side i assume

    Is good for engine 3.6 traverse ?

    Interesting information, thanks for sharing. I'm building a 5.2ltr in Gen 1 Block with Gen 2 heads for circuit racing. I am wanting to keep the VCT. What cam timing gears. chains and tensioners are you using? Hard to find anything other than genuine Ford stuff unless you want to lock the cams out.

    Great video and info. Sir I have a 2011 5.0 and I let it go low on oil and it's now running really rough. What could have happened? Thank you

    • @dipsnipers
      @dipsnipers 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Could've jumped timing. Those timing chains have tensioners that set tension off oil pressure. If timing is jumped, you will run rough and misfire on every cylinder almost

    P0018 error on a gen 2 and even changing the solenoids no solution.. Over advanced in the exhaust.. What else could cause it?

      I'm having the same issue but p0019. Talked to a builder and he said the phasers was most likely toasted. I Data loged and at idle they were 10⁰ off from the opposite bank

      @@brandonbarnett9919 ay, i just replaced the solenoid, it improved a tiny bit vibrations but it still pops up the error. Pretty sure at this point I need a new phaser. I wonder if I can just replace the phaser or I need to redo the whole timing..

    sounds like this would break the chain if it failed?

    Hey man thanks for the awesome video! Helped me understand this much better. I got code p0022 a while back that signaled a retard timing in bank 2. I changed the vvt solenoids in that bank and the problem went away. I used motocraft solenoids. Well a week ago the symptoms came back, truck stalled in idle a few times during that week. It usually when the temp is hot outside and im coming off the highway to a stop. I examined the solenoids i replaced and noticed one of them had a very small amount of oil inside the solenoid electrical connection. I decided to change BANK 1 solenoids yesterday and used 10w-30. Truck seems to be running fine now and I ran a live data test on forscan of the vvt PIDS, everything seems to be in check. Do you think its something causing the solenoids to go bad, im worried about that small leak in one of them. Im assuming because I only changed one side initially the other bad ones were causing more strain on the new ones. Thanks so much

      @Skipp3rBuds ปีที่แล้ว

      Oil within the connector part of the solenoid means the overmold is cracked. These solenoids can withstand a hell of a lot of abuse voltage and temperature wise. If I had to guess id start looking at the wires coming too and from the solenoid. A small increase in resistance can have a very large effect on the expected response of the solenoid. So make sure your grounds and connections are good.

    It cost me 4k to fix timing chains and cam phaser issues in a 6.2L Ford. To say I hate cam phaser engines. They are not as realiable as the old days single chain setups.
