    1. Love the rhythm section. They have some nice syncopation and do good at keeping you off balance at times.
    2. I feel like this reminds me of dancing queen. It sounds like they could have added a lot more flash and flamboyance to this which would have made this song much better....but they didn't.
    3. LYRICS WERE BOMB.

      JAYBRIEL, the song is ok, but to one who is in a process of knowing Abba work and its unique Style it' s not a great choice. It's a filler

    This is an underrated masterpiece from start to finish. The angelic harmonies create the "wall of sound" that Benny and Björn wanted to produce. The string arrangement and chello just send me into orbit. I love it.

    Don't forget the voices, they just sound so powerful and beautiful together and I think they wanted to showcase that here. Other songs have more keyboard/synth but giving the music more space is ok too. At the start you seem a bit restless but when the energy kicks in it's easy to like.

    One of my favourite ABBA songs, with a verse melody as gorgeous as the chorus, but with the chorus using multi-layered harmonies whilst the verse is them (including Bjorn) singing the same melody line in unison. Love it! Please react to As Good As New and If it Wasn't for the Nights. Thank you 😁

  • @anthonyrogers4137
    @anthonyrogers4137 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    A sort-of 'briefer' comment from me (for once 😉😆 ...lol!).
    • Yes, you pronounced 'Voulez-Vous' correctly 😃✨👍 ...and it means "do you want?"
    • This song may seem 'less flashy', as they decided to leave it as is (so from there, it would have usually been left to grow mould in the 'ABBA Vaults' [😉😆], but sometimes such songs would end up originally only appearing as b-side to a single [as some of the songs that ABBA have released since the 1990s that were left in the 'vaults' are actually very good too).
    • Frequently, A, B, B and A seemed to choose correctly, as to what would be an a-side, a b-side, and/or appear on their original studio-albums (it was like they won the lottery from what they chose - both for themselves *and* fans, as they did actually seem to choose well, much more often than not). Nevertheless, some fans argue otherwise on some songs, while Benny & Björn have sometimes also wondered why they've released some of their songs too (for example, there's a song from their 1974 studio-album 'Waterloo', called 'King Kong Song', and they both actually hate it. I love it [not just because I love *all* of ABBA's songs ...lol, albeit to differing degrees, but I also love it because it's a good rock tune], and Agnetha & Frida's beltiing out of the song in rock-style is fantastic. I've tended to think the reason why B&B "hate" that song could be because of the lyrics: as they may feel embarrassed about them; but then, back in the late-1960s/mid-1970s, there were other songs around that time that had comedic and 'serious' animal themes, for example: 'I Am The Walrus' - The Beatles; 'Eagle Rock' - Daddy Cool; 'Crockodile Rock' - Elton John; 'The Funky Gibbon' - The Goodies; 'Tiger' and 'Eagle' - ABBA.
    • Listen to the music, production and voices in 'King Kong Song', rather than focussing on the lyrics, and I think you may like it: th-cam.com/video/7qO2eEScFYU/w-d-xo.html
    Cheers from Australia 👋😃🐨🦘🦜

    A really good song, and quite complex: there are several melodic and rhythmic changes throughout the song. If you're looking for something flashier, there's a lot to choose from on the rest of the Voulez-Vous album: the title track, Lovers (Live A Little Longer), Lovelight, Does Your Mother Know, As Good As New,... Voulez-Vous was the peak of their disco period.

      I think for this one the lyrics are absolutely gold and if you're a woman who's had a guy like this in your life it must super duper relate. If they replaced all the lyrics with a girl with angeleyes I'd relate a ton more.

    Gotta remember, on the Studio version, it's just Benny, Bjorn, and Straus (drummer) providing the music, and the result is astounding! There was some embellishment done to the voices on Studio Versions that actually made them sound like a larger choir, and for the time, the arrangements were way ahead of its time.

    Angeleyes"
    is a good disco-style song, within the disco-style album "Voulez Vous"
    (with the exception of the ballads "Chiquitita" and "I have a dream")
    that ABBA recorded following the influences of disco music in North America with Bee Gees succes
    It was together, with "Voulez Vous" as double A-side, the third single from said album, it reached # 3 in UK
    In this album I prefer other songs of that style, such as
    "As good as new" and
    "If it wasn't for the nights"

    Angel Eyes was designated as an album track and not ever really a single. It only became so when I have A Dream was released. Then it is a matter whether in fact it was arguably the B side of the single.
    It a very catchy number but as you say it doesn't have the flashiness of Dancing Queen.

    • @geordieboy8945

      It got to No3 in the UK in 1979 and was much played then. Voulez-Vous on the other side of the single doesn't seem to have been as popular and I don't think it's as good.

  • @bdm1000
    @bdm1000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I prefer it to be not as flashy. If more of their songs were like Dancing Queen I don't think I'd like any of them as much as I like DQ now (though I purposely don't listen to it that much for a similar reason). I think they kept Angeleyes tasteful, but I hear what you're saying.

    They tried always different Ruth ms , arrangements , vocalists , so be sure this is the best they could do with that specific song. ONE EXAMPLE of all the possibilities they tried on every song is “FRIM A TWINKLING STAR TO A PASSING ANGEL” Where you can appreciate all the changes made to a song until the final result

      I completely disagree. It’s a simply written song, but the arrangement is just as good as any ABBA composition. It is by no means a filler, though I do agree, there are filler ABBA songs elsewhere. This was released as a double “A” side single with Voulez Vous in the UK, but being in a disco period, wasn’t the chosen track played on radio.
