No much energy in Bee Gees, thin voices IMHO ... I understand their compositions and strength but ... ABBA is a different story . The 2 voices sound as choir and orchestra at the same time. The sound and the blend is so solid and full ... master class composition. arrangement and performance
I know most of the reviewers - not you - just drool over the ladies but over here in Europe they were loved for bringing such joy and freshness to our lives. It took a group from outside Britain and America to do this. They brought the beauty of humanity to their music.

Hi there @@Timo-_.! Yes i know Frida's origins.Yet she grew up in Torshalla Sweden after she moved there from Norway since aged 3 and so she got a Swedish citizenship.
I was a little boy when this came out. You'd hear it everywhere: radio, the shopping centre, and my father humming it while he made dinner. I remember stopping what I was doing each time to listen. Happy times.
Legend has it the snowman was their bodyguard when they started out in Sweden but they soon found he couldn't tour with them in warmer climates. This was their reunion and he made a special appearance for the children as this was for a children's charity. Apparently he is alive and well and living in the mountains of Sweden where the ABBA members visit from time to time. He is a very cool guy. Now more ABBA please.

They were worshipped by some and seen as uncool by others.I could never dispute their ability and thoroughly enjoyed their music.🌹Thank you for the Music, Abba.
This is the song that made me fall in love with ABBA as a child. So good, unbeatable harmonies. You've spoken about hearing them live in one of the past videos, their performance of Chiquitita at Wembley in 79 is amazing imo. There's also Dancing Queen from Australia in 77. There's also S.O.S, Take a Chance on Me, Knowing Me Knowing You, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Fernando and so many others you gotta get to lol. The GOATS of music. They were in Switzerland at this time and needed to record a video for the song so they just sat down on a mountain and did this, so there's no real meaning to the snowman. The only ABBA single to not have a "proper" music video I think.
Such a wonderful kinda emotional reaction.Thank You!And yes ABBA don't fail to make you smile as you've said.Spanish version with same heavenly harmonies sounds exotic and was a mammoth hit in Latin American countries with phenomenal unpreceded sales there.
Great reaction and comments. ABBA are simply the gold standard of pop music. Whatever order you cover their dozens of legendary tracks, please when you get to 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' use the official lyric video - it has the full version and is a must.
This Song really became a reactors favourite. Well in fact " lay all your Love on me" , "one of us ", " head over heals", " the day before you came" ," when all IS Said and done" are also nice ones , you should try, too.
Carries me back to my young adulthood - I used to hang out in a hole-in-the-wall, low-ceilinged, WWII British pub (in the southern US) that had an old upright piano next to the stone fireplace. On Friday nights, the owner’s wife would come in and play, which evolved over time into a weekly sing-along that developed its own regular crowd that would come in just to have fun and participate. Someone brought a battered tambourine in specifically for Chiquitita, and it became THE song to sing when she played. Lots of great times and memories - it broke my heart when Arthur retired and sold the business to a couple of hipster entrepreneurs, who destroyed the vibe to turn a quick buck. Assholes, the both of them.
first time i heard ABBA i was around 8yrs old, i was at a friends house, they had tons of records, and we would listen to them, he put on ABBA and it became one of my favs. they sounded like angels to me.
I believe this if from when they were in Switzerland, filming ABBA in Switzerland in 1979. Who thought it was a fun idea with a giant snowman in the background I have no idea... You can see the wind blowing Fridas hair... giving her some trouble. The title means little girl in spanish, and you can hear some influences probably. Maybe the snowman felt child friendly for the cause?
You are correct... In fact 'the Jackson five' also have a clip (in daylight) in front of the same snowman... ("THE JACKSONS in Switzerland 1979 Leysin Sky Resort") I think they performed on a different day than ABBA, but in the same week... ❤🇨🇱🤗👍🏼
@@alejandrosantanaborquez917 I didn't know that, thank you! Love the Jackson 5! It seems that The Jackson 5 were there on the 5th of February and ABBA on the 14th. That mysterious snowman, would love to know more about the background of it all. Was it built for the Jackson 5 and ABBA just reused it? They seemed to be in a hurry, so they might have just thought it was a fun prop.
That unique double kick back beat with the off screen percussion, in sync with the piano's, which are also percussion instruments (look it up) make this track my all time favorite of ABBA's!
It has been incorrectly stated by some fans that this was a studio. ABBA were in the Swiss Ski Resort of Leysin to film a TV Special in February 1979. They chose this visit to also shoot this video. Although it turned out great, it always seemed a odd film location for a Spanish/Mexican flavoured song. In the chorus they sing ''But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you' while the video is filmed in the evening, halfway up a snowy mountain.
Everytime I hear this song I can not understand why I don´t have Chiquitita on my ABBA top 10 list 🙂 The angelic voices, the melody, the background vocals etc.... I love your ABBA-reactions and this gave me a big smile also. Thanks!
You have no idea what a kick it is watching somebody discover the brilliance of ABBA for the first time. If you're looking for a great up-tempo synth driven classic, check out "Lay All Your Love On Me".
Some other reactor/songwritter discribed this song as 'mundane" while reacting to this.Don't know what his ears were 'conceiving" but for me it's like hearing the echoes of angels singing from a nearby paradise.btw both my parents plus my uncle Gus who were all '50s/'60s Gen (into Beatles ,Elvis, etc) had steadily concluded that this is ABBA's best recorded song ever. They all felt chills whenever i played the VV album and this song started. It was like a sacred moment.Absolute silence in the sitting room and then sheer excitement.
As a child, that snowman scared me 😂 I've learnt to appreciate ABBA more and more over the years, and understand why ppl from other countries exclaim ABBA! when they hear you're from Sweden 😊
Thx, in Europe and in record companies they say;abba is timeless, universal, inter-generational, but it seems to me that it is the diversity of musical genres that characterizes them the most.Thank you for the next Abba song to react to their “Happy new year”, Agnetha again with the vocals, against vocals 👍👍👍
Since we're at ABBA right now (and if I've researched correctly you haven't heard this song on your channel yet) I would like to suggest a song by ABBA for New Year's Eve: "Happy New Year". The song is "very ABBA". Behind a beautiful and catchy melody that alternates between contemplation and party mood hide lyrics with great depth. It's one of my favorite ABBA songs.
I recommend you a Spanish singer her name is Diana Navarro with the song "El perdón" she is a singer that transmits a lot when she sings and has incredible melismas. She is also very versatile when it comes to singing. She sings different musical styles. Best regards
Two of their lesser known songs that I always really liked were The Piper and Our Last Summer. The Piper had such a nice folksy feel to it and the song Our Last Summer has the lyrics of anyone remembering another really beautiful time in their life.
To drill down a bit on what you said - this is a “pop arrangement” of what is essentially european folk. Abba always did that, throughout thier career. A lot of it is straight-up “beer hall” music, but it’s done really, really well.
That epic, broad sound doesn't just come from the complex harmonies, but the counter-melodies that are often used in ABBA's songs. They really add the richness and fullness to their sound. The counter-melodies are one of my favorite elements of their style.
I think most people have had the lightbulb moment after the second or third abba song, they are majesty and greatness in music, they bring pure joy and authenticity to music, abba were always about beautiful music ,you really need to see the live wembley concert,it has Chiquita, and standout hole in your soul, the way old friends do.abba are forever.
a separate comment, to provide you with some contextual information that you wouldn't even imagine about this historic ABBA song. 1) ABBA had been invited to the Concert for UNICEF They were the only one of all the invited artists who was non-English speaking) ABBA were promoting their disco-style song "If It Wasn't for the Nights" as a future new single. But the time came for the recording of "Chiquitita", and everything changed, and ABBA considered "Chiquitita" as more appropriate for UNICEF, and so it was. And the premiere at that historic concert at the United Nations 2) at the time of recording "Chiquitita" it is the time of separation of Agnetha and Björn as a couple, with two small children of 6 and 1 year old "Chiquitita" is their last recording as a couple, and at the same time it is the first that they perform separately, and this is the first official video of ABBA no longer being two couples. You can see the professionalism of Agnetha and Björn, who are next to each other, and just separated 3) the success of "Chiquitita" was more notable in Spanish-speaking countries; In my country Argentina, many singles were sold, and it was on this occasion that the manager of the RCA record company in Argentina traveled to Sweden with an adaptation of the lyrics in Spanish (only the first verses and chorus) and convinced ABBA's manager to record it in spanish ABBA accepted and premiered it in Spain in 1979 in a couple of TV specials. Its success was indescribable And that same year ABBA recorded another one in Spanish, and with an official video: "Estoy soñando" (I have a dream) The following year ABBA will record a full album in Spanish, with many of their hits (Mamma Mia, Fernando, Dancing Queen, Thank you for the músic) For this, the lyrics in Spanish were made by the argentine Buddy and Mary McClusky, and a Spanish journalist helped Agnetha and Frida with the phonetics for the recordings. That's why, when you cited my country Argentina among the most successful places of "Chiquitita", my Argentine pride told me to tell you everything important that connects Argentina with ABBA through "Chiquitita", here is their greatest success, the same as Mexico and other Latin American countries and Argentina provided ABBA with the Spanish lyrics for most of its recordings. Finally I want to congratulate you for your passion, professionalism and joy with each new ABBA song that you discover. ABBA really has a level of excellence, although in their time they were overrated and considered very commercial, but reproducing their melodies and the complex alchemy of their vocal harmonies is impossible to even approach such a level. More very popular songs await you, and others that were not singles but are as brilliant as the previous. A cordial greeting from Buenos Aires Argentina South America
You should listen to the Spanish version of Chiquitita, whether you understand Spanish or not. Yes, it has the same melody, same voices, and similar lyrics. Just another darn good ABBA song for English-speaking ears. BUT, it developed into its own and hit a chord in all of Latin America for its harder-hitting lyrics and profound nuanced meaning in Spanish.
The Snowman may have something to do with the fact it was recorded in Sweden on December 13th 1978, it might of been released in some countries just before Christmas, just a guess
My favourite band since I was 3 in 1976. This was a TV special filmed in Switzerland in the Swiss Alps. They were skiing and ice skating etc. Hence the snowman. I know almost everything about them and ALL of their songs. I ready to give you any song suggestions. Great reaction by the way.
So many great ABBA songs. If you want prog try Eagle from The Album (full length version), if you want darkly mysterious try The day before you came. If you want disco try Summer night city, etc, etc.
i would have been 10 years old when this was released. All my life ive been a metal/punk fan mainly, but theres no denying the superior qualities of Abba. Probably the greatest band of all time in my humble opinion (after Nirvana who dont count because... well, theyre Nirvana and any comparison to mortals would be unfair).
Frida’s voice was stronger than Agnetha’s, so not sure what you mean? During live performances Frida held the microphone further away to try to counter balance things otherwise her voice was more prominent

3) the success of "Chiquitita" was more notable in Spanish-speaking countries; In my country Argentina, many singles were sold, and it was on this occasion that the manager of the RCA record company in Argentina traveled to Sweden with an adaptation of the lyrics in Spanish (only the first verses and chorus) and convinced ABBA's manager to record it in spanish
ABBA accepted and premiered it in Spain in 1979 in a couple of TV specials.
Its success was indescribable And that same year ABBA recorded another one in Spanish, and with an official video:
"Estoy soñando" (I have a dream)
The following year ABBA will record a full album in Spanish, with many of their hits (Mamma Mia, Fernando, Dancing Queen, Thank you for the músic)
For this, the lyrics in Spanish were made by the argentine Buddy and Mary McClusky, and a Spanish journalist helped Agnetha and Frida with the phonetics for the recordings.
That's why, when you cited my country Argentina among the most successful places of "Chiquitita", my Argentine pride told me to tell you everything important that connects Argentina with ABBA through "Chiquitita", here is their greatest success, the same as Mexico and other Latin American countries
and Argentina provided ABBA with the Spanish lyrics for most of its recordings.
A cordial greeting from
Buenos Aires Argentina South America
Agnetha 😍
Takes me back to my sister and i as kids, singing into hairbrushes 😊
It's kind of mesmerising, that's for sure. Always loved this song for what it is - the power of their talents on full display!
Oh and a few other ABBA gems: “Angeleyes” “If it Wasn’t For the Nights” “When All Is Said and Done” really enjoyed this!!!
they have always been perfect and stunning!!!
My favorite SONG / 🫵try: „CASSANDRA“ 🤛 from ABBA👊🥹🥲☺️🥰😇
Abba's most beautiful song.
Now 73 and still love ABBA. From New Zealand, December 2024.
I love that you went back at the end to the beginning to just ground it even more
I think this is my all-time favorite song from ABBA because of the message.
You should listen to the day before you came by abba. Absolutely hauntingly beautiful.
The Snowman may have something to do with the fact it was recorded in Sweden on December 13th 1978, it might of been released in some countries just before Christmas, just a guess
Thank you your real reaction!!! 😊
Love to see lite up when the song came alive. And great that you give euro pop a chance
I just love watching you enjoying Abba. It's a joy to behold! So glad you love them.
Frida was so perfect at holding her own and balancing Agnetha's strong voice.
Frida’s voice was stronger than Agnetha’s, so not sure what you mean? During live performances Frida held the microphone further away to try to counter balance things otherwise her voice was more prominent
Анни-Фрид бесподобная красавица!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It’s simply an anthem for real friendship.
