- What's happening, folks! I'm back for another amazing ABBA song from their 1979 album Voulez-Vous, and seriously, this track really nails what I love about their songwriting ... and sonics ... and vocals. Indeed, this is a top, top track from a band feeling their groove, so join me for another ace tune from late '70s ABBA. Cheers!
Also I recently set up a Patreon, so anyone interested in supporting what we do on this channel through donation can go here. Cheers! / shnootz

From UK here, think your great Matt and love ABBA 😊
Again, one of my favourite ABBA songs. It’s just so damn catchy and won’t leave my head anymore. 😊
Angeleyes is a true beauty where both Agnetha and Frida voices blend in beautifully.
This song always reminds me of having 60’s vibes. Luv the vocal layering.
Love this tune. The vocals and harmonies in the chorus always amaze me.
this song has that hypnotic feeling, when the mind goes over and over the same memory.
I like this one 😊
Especially those: "Ah- Ah- Has"
Take care, see ya, Matt & Lucca
❤️🇨🇱👍
Fantastic tune with out of this world harmonies. More to come later in the album. The next track seems to be the 'player' getting a taste of his own medicine, and his former lover loving it. She gloats. Poor you, the king has lost his crown.
All about the harmonies 👍
Pure pop deliciousness, with a sublime melody, gorgeous vocals, and great production.
As I said before, one of my favorite ABBA songs. The story was they recorded another track titled Just A Notion but it's not complete and Benny & Bjorn abandoned it and replaced it with Angeles instead. I think that it was the right decision. Just A Notion doesn't sound like it belonged in this album. Fortunately, they included it in their latest album, Voyage.
Perfect .
In my opinion Angeleyes is one of the best songs on Voulez-Vous. Really catchy and with great lyrics - and the harmonies - OMG! The next song though, is a REAL GEM! Look forward to your reaction to "The King Has Lost His Crown"!
This has a 50's or 60's sound to me. Love it.
I always really liked this one. It's very pop, a bit of a sixties vibe to it with the storytelling lyric and the (fabulous) vocal harmonies. I love the baroque keyboards too, especially towards the end. If they wrote it now there would have to be a third verse where she goes up to the girl and tells her abut him and the new girl just says she's jealous and MYOB and they end up having a catfight in the street with Mr. Angeleyes watching on smugly.
Pure pop .
I also love the strings and the bass in this track. I wonder if they ever performed this live. It would have been great!
"Angeleyes" (1979)
is a good disco-style song (7pts), within album disco-style "Voulez Vous" (with the exception of the ballads "Chiquitita" and "I have a dream")
that ABBA recorded following the influences of disco music in North America with Bee Gees hits
It was together, with "Voulez Vous" as double A-side, the third single from said album, it reached #3 in UK
In this album I prefer other songs of that style:
"As good as new" (the opening track)
the tittle track, "Voulez Vous"
ore one special that come soon
"If it wasn''t for the nights"
but these tuned is loved for the fans
and was trendiing in Tik Tok a few months ago, with a lot of streaming
Unfortunaly it haven't a official video or TV perfomanece
I see you in next ABBA vídeo
My best regards from

Criminally underrated and ignored pop song. It deserves so much more recognition! By anyone's standards it's a classic pop song, truly one of ABBA's greatest. In a strange way, it's a 'hidden gem' . It's far superior to a few other singles such as Does Your Mother Know and I Have A Dream.
And it sounds unlike any other song, even while having clear 50s Motown influences in the verses.
Damn those Angel Eyes!!!
Good tune I’ve always enjoyed. Discovered by the youngsters and became somewhat of a sped up tik tok phenomenon. Thanks Matt for your pre and post analysis. 👍
this song sounds so happy that I can't even really feel the sadness of the song... its just a fun "bop" for me, even though I know what its about. Great song none the less.
Hi, Matt :)
I’m dropping this here because i don’t know if you ever check out the comments on older videos.
Just finished watching your reactions to Ring Ring (and The Album) and am really enjoying your take on music i’m very familiar with. As the quality of my audio equipment has improved over the decades i’ve been able to hear more of the complexity in the music i’m listening to, but very little makes me think about it differently; your reactions do that, so thank you.
Anyhow, all that said what i’m here to do is mention Björn & Benny’s 1970 album “Lycka”. It features the uncredited backing vocals of of two women who might or might have been their girlfriends at the time and might or might not have been under separate recording contracts of their own. It might not be ABBA’s first album, or even the overture, but it’s certainly the band warming up. It’s an album i revisit more often than Ring Ring or Waterloo and i’d love to hear your thoughts on it, if only because it’s all in Swedish so you won’t be able to riff on the title or lyrics! ;)
If you don’t have access to it i can provide that if you want, either for the channel or just yourself (and that comes with translations for all the lyrics). I mean, what’s life without a little early ‘70s Swedish folk-pop, eh?
Thanks again, and i’m looking forward to wading through the rest of your channel when i’ve caught up with you on ABBA.
Peace.
Tim :)
Hey there! I've seen a number of your comments on older videos, and I replied to a couple. And thanks for the kind words, looking forward to hearing what you have to say about other ABBA tunes, both ones I've already reacted to and ones we get to in the future. Thanks again for commenting!
This is the poppiest that Abba were since Take a chance on me.
I have a middling feeling towards Angeleyes, its lovely but not in my top ten, but fits in great on the Voulez vous album vibe.
So nice to see you again Matt after the weekend
but now I begin different
with special note about new changes to ABBA's stats on your channel this weekend
"That's me" and
"I've been waiting for you"
They are the sixth and seventh song that exceeded 1000 views
"Thank you for the music" and "One man one woman", coming from "The Album", entered your new ABBA Top 10, which is now:
S.O.S.
Knowing me knowing you
Ring Ring
Eagle
When I kissed the teacher
That's me
I've been waiting for you
Money money money
Thank you for the music
One man one woman
"The Album" is now the album with the highest average views per song, surpassing its predecessor "Arrival"
but the most important is that "S.O.S." broke your entire Top5 with A-ha
ABBA's location in your musical reactions in your Top20 is now:
5) S.O.S.
7) Knowing me knowing you
8) Ring Ring
11) Eagle
16) When I kissed the teacher
and below between positions 22 and 32 come almost followed another 9 songs from ABBA
(14 ABBA songs between your 32 reaction musical with more views, and growing more amazing!)
all these Is to show how the ABBA fans aré growing in your channel with more views and comment un your reaction to ABBA
Congratulations!
Haha, oh wow! Lots of folks have become part of the a-ha journey, so it's a significant thing that one of the ABBA reactions has gotten up into that territory! (and now 3 in the top ten). Cheers, loving this ABBA voyage and you're a big part of that, Eduardo!
@@mattsnider2667
Sure, everything is dynamic anyway
Totally dominated A-ha
now ABBA appeared to fight for that hegemony
and in the future it will be other artists who occupy the first places
By the way
Have you thought about doing the history of The Beatles in chronological order as well as with ABBA?
@@eduardooscar309 I would love to do that! I have a small amount of familiarity with the Beatles (more than ABBA at the start of that journey, for example), but I've never owned their albums. So I would definitely be keen to do that, but I'll have to see if friends of the channel can help me access the catalog.
@@mattsnider2667 That would be fantastic and, i imagine, a great way to grow your channel. Not that clicks and likes and followers are how we measure our worth, obvs. ;D
@@mattsnider2667
It would be fantastic, I hope some friends can give it to you
I grew up discovering their music in my teens,
when they had already broken up
In reality, he lived through the time of their solo careers in the 70s,
and listened to a radio program at dawn in Buenos Aires
that dedicated 1/2 hour a day to The Beatles.
(he even once did a special 7-hour program
dedicated exclusively to the history of The Beatles)
In the case of The Beatles,
it is necessary to follow their albums and their singles in parallel,
since in the original English discography (the ideal)
they released a new album and the new singles were often not included in them.
I hope you can do it,
for me it would also be to take a chronological journey
to rediscover Them together and here sharing
A big hug
Abba on old Motown beats
oh yes ,actually you're kinda right, i hear the verses having Motown beats.
Such a bouncy heart break tune ! ? .
Disco yes, but also 60's girl group inspired, with almost Arabesque keyboard embellishments... the ABBA song as dense, glittering sonic tapestry.
And a little Motown, and disco, cautionary tale, celebratory, how perfect is this song?
Pounding frustration vibes ?. 🎉
Newer Gens discovered this song in 2018 since it was featured in the MM movie and then r was re-discovered and became popular again some months ago after that Tik Tok trend.
V v . Pure disco + .. double A side in UK 🇬🇧.
This one requires the oldest pair of headphones you have with a little bit of static adding to the layers.
Perhaps they should have called the song-Aha-since it does feature heavily.
They really didn't have much faith in the song. Wanting to scrap it all together but since they got cold feet over Just A Notion-until 40 years later-they went back to it.
There is an arrangement which they recorded featuring brass overdubs (Trumpet and trombone) but that got scrapped. Eventually after many mixes, we get the final version we hear today. A version and a song B&B are still meh about.
And funny as the song is in the top 5 Abba tracks most played on Spotify.
Helped by it becoming a TikTok thing with today's Gen Z's in the last couple of years or so.
The only song from the album that was never performed either live or to playback or had a music video. Benny and Björn never really liked the song.
I ding the production a bit fuzzy/muddy sounding, but melodies and harmonies and vocals are as gorgeous as ever. A double A side in the UK with Voulez Vous
