Fun fact: Originally, the villain of the NuWho story 'The Lodger' was Meglos out for revenge. The punchline would've been that the Doctor had completely forgotten him in the intervening centuries, and wouldn't remember him even when prompted, something that Meglos would have taken great offence to. While not depicted in the episode, one of Scaroth's time-splintered versions in the 1930's had also attempted to find and gain control of an artifact known as the Holy Grail, but was defeated by a different doctor, archaeologist/adventurer Henry Jones, Jr.
A Purely Classic Who Top 10! Fantastic! Great to see The Kandyman get a space as many people who haven’t seen The Happiness Patrol would say he looks stupid and must be a terrible villain. Shame Tobias Vaughn from The Invasion isn’t on the list
Finally getting some Classic Who lists on here, fantastic. Although a lot of these villains come back in Big Finish. Speaking of, I would put the Tractators from Frontios on the list, they have a truly horrifying motivation and some great backstory told by a traumatised Turlough.
I'm a big fan of Image Of the Fendahl, as it's one of the truly creepy (sfx notwithstanding) stories post-Hinchcliffe. There's elements of both Hammer horror and good old H.P. Lovecraft, well told. Leela, as always , kicks several kinds of arse. The glowing skull used to really freak me out, especially when the Doctor's hand gets stuck to it after merely offering it a jelly baby. Which was nice.
Fun fact: Meglos was intended to return in the revived series and face off against the Eleventh Doctor. The producers wanted him to appear in The Lodger with the Doctor not recognising him, but the recent appearance of the Vinvocci in The End of Time which looked similar to him prevented such plans being made. Quite a few of these villains, however, have returned in off-screen stories. Also, speaking of the Daleks-Nazis comparisons, there are thoughts that Nyder somewhat looked like Heinrich Himmler. And a Doctor Who character that ended up being splintered throughout time; why does that sound familiar?
I was about to mention the similarities of Meglos to the Vinvocci. I knew they looked familiar, but Tom Bakers Doctor, was many decades ago. He was where I started with Doctor Who. Thank goodness for PBS !
finally a purely classic video! i would love to see more of these i definitely agree with most of these. some great picks!! my favourite one off villains are sharaz jek, tobias vaughn, sutekh and the celestial toymaker
Clearly the person in the Kandyman suit had a lot of experience being an actor stuck inside the monsters because that suit looks rather comfortable to move in.
1: Magnus Greel (Talons Of Weng Chiang) 2: Mavic Chen/Tobias Vaughn (Daleks Master Plan/The Invasion; the two characters are inseparable) 3: Solon (Brain Of Morbius) 4: Graff Vynda-K (Ribos Operation) 5: Stahlman (Inferno) 6: Sutekh (Pyramids Of Mars) 7: Scaroth (City Of Death) 8: Koquillion (The Rescue) 9: Hindle (Kinda) 10: The War Chief (The War Games)
The Kandyman in the original script was not supposed to look like Bertie Bassett, he originally meant to look like a silvery humanoid creature wearing a chef's outfit which is how he looks when he returns in BF's Ravenous series.
If you ever did a top 20 (or 30!) list of the same, here are some possible additions in no particular order: Tobias Vaughn (The Invasion) The Celestial Toymaker (The Celestial Toymaker) The Master of the Land of Fiction (The Mind Robber) Fenric (Curse of Fenric) The Captain (The Pirate Planet) The BOSS (The Green Death) The War Chief (The War Games) Xoanon (The Face of Evil) Morgus (The Caves of Androzani--Yeah, I know Jek is on your list but Morgus should be on it as well.) The Gods of Ragnarok (The Greatest Show in the Galaxy) The Great Vampires (State of Decay) The Eternals (Enlightenment) Scorby (Seeds of Doom) Eldrad (The Hand of Fear) Mehendri Solon (The Brain of Morbius) Lady Peinforte (Silver Nemesis) The Rutans (Horror of Fang Rock) Fendahl (Image of the Fendahl) And they totally need to bring Meglos back--he was practically indestructible after all.
The Rutans deserved a return or two. They are in human form until the end of the show, and then you get a grizzly bear sized green blob with whirling tentacles of death.

The Doctor removes part of the TARDIS console, and connects it to Sutekh's time corridor, preventing Sutekh reaching 1911, pushing the temporal boundary further and further into the future, to s point where it will take Sutekh longer thsn his Osirian life span to reach Earth, killing him of old age. The Celestial Toymaker is in The Nightmare Fair with the Sixth Doctor.
I kinda liked part 4 of the celestial toymaker shame the rest weren't recovered btw who else thought when the doctor put the sweet in his mouth think what did you expect
@@UnderhillKoufax Bit sticky because despite being from a lost season "The Nightmare Fair" never really happened in TV canon because Michael Grade was a jag master general... also Big Finish is an audio company and this is going by screen appearances only...
_I guess after Meglos was defeated, he felt pretty prickly_
_Get it?_
_I’m here all day, people_
9:36 Yeah, it would be wild if they ever brought Sutekh back one day. But they would never do that
well now sutekh is back
amazing video
Sharaz one of the best villains ever! Bring him back!!!!
10:05 "AN missile?"
This list is actually pretty good, just a shame Chibbers doesn't have the brain to use any of them. But for fuck sake, you got Morbius!!!!!! And the villains of The Visitation who's name always escapes me.
Terileptils.
@@ftumschk Thank you, knew it was something along those lines. I wish the Terileptils would come back.
But.... If the copies were painted by Da Vinci himself, how could they be fakes?
Okay, maybe they weren't truly original, but, well...
No love for The Boss from The Green Death?
Surely Meglos would have just made a lot of kids at the time afraid of cacti? 🌵😱
Are you going away next weekend?
@@ijustdidahugeshit ?????
@@NineWorldsFromDrew I was going to visit you
@@ijustdidahugeshit Errrr, what?! It’s not funny to make someone believe that you’re stalking them 🤨
@@NineWorldsFromDrew Please explain
I wish sutekh wod come back

Who is susan triad?
best? Kandyman?
The thing is, it's the weirdest one off villains that were the most Iconic
Actually, your kinda wrong on Meglos; while the character himself was never seen again, two other characters of the same species appeared in the David Tennent 2-part final.
They weren't Zolfa Thurans - Meglos was the last of them.
So this meglos guy.
Did he have children who used schimmers?
too bad the Weeping Angels were overused, they could have made this list for modern Who
agreed
Good list overall
But I would replace the Candy Man with Harrison Chase from Seeds of Doom
Could you make a top 10 new who only one time villains
Did you change th thumbnail for this one? I'm sure it was someone sticking their fingers through the doctors face.
Did you put the Kandyman on this list just to bait for comments?
