      But it's not really h&r, it's just a trademark now. Kind of like what polaroid was before the company was properly resurrected.

    Confession: I've always liked the triangular handguards. Still trying to figure out why they got away from that shape. Also, the A1 barrel profile is awesome. Whatever you give up is worth the weight savings for most applications. "Retro" is relative. Maybe it's actually futuristic.

    • @burnyburnoutze2nd
      @burnyburnoutze2nd ปีที่แล้ว +15

      They went away from that shape because it required 2 seperate part numbers; one for left side, one for right side.
      The A2 uses the same part for both halves of the handguard. From a logistics snd financial standpoint, it is a improvement.

      @@chadhaire1711 I don’t recall mine rattling. A lot of other sources of noise, but not the handguards as I recall.

      @@wolfpack4694 Once they are taken off they will never be the same...always rattle...we always had to tape them shut....a pain to get off after a day in the hot sun....or super cold. The newer round ones dont. That was the real reason to get rid of them.....having less part numbers was a bonus but never the reason....that was some BS spread by fake poser Pete Kokales at SOF magazine...

    Brings me back to memories of being a young soldier back in the day. The days, months, and years when going through field exercises in hot, cold, and even wet conditions of snow, desert, and jungle environments. Cleaning them for hours through a whole day just to turn them in to the arms room so the day would end. These rifles will take the abuse of military service for decades. No matter how beat up the exterior they will fire no matter what. During field exercises these rifles would fire blanks and soldiers often neglect to clean them for days or weeks at a time. When firing service ammunition through them with proper lubrication they work flawlessly when you understand the weapon. Soldiers will clean and keep their weapons cleaned provided that an NCO will kick their ass to clean their weapons clean. Not very happy memories of cleaning of course but firing them was a joy.

    My AR has a 20" barrel, like the rifle i qualified with at sill back in the 80's. I understand the tradeoffs and why the military went with the m4, but the m16 was much better to shoot.

    I bought a Brownells complete A1 rifle years ago when Brownells had the Retro line of rifles. The Brownells A1 rifle was 99% period correct down to the smallest detail. The material the stocks are made out of is not the same material as the original M16's. I even got the Brownells Retro 4 power scope for mine. The Brownells Retro scopes are made by the same company in Japan that made the original Colt scopes for the M16A1 back in the 1970's I wanted to buy a Brownells 601 rifle but Brownells stopped making the retro rifles before I had the money to buy another. I seen this H&R A1 rifle in a couple videos last year from Shot Show and I waited all year for it to come out. It would be great to have a M16A1 clone rifle that has H&R on the receiver. I just hope it is as period correct as the Brownells Retro rifles were. What bothers me is PSA is going to be making these. I have bought a lot of AR rifles and AR parts over the years and PSA has the worst quality I have ever seen.

      I love my Brownell's retro AR-10. I am curious if the H&R, or Fulton Armory is a better choice for an M16 clone these days, with the run from Brownell's being over. Personally I would love to have the M16A1, M16A2, the carbine, and the Airforce rifles, from H&R. I was too late for a Brownell's AR-15, too. So I was looking to Fulton Armory until this came about.

    Short runs??? Why? Just keep it production and it'll sell!

    • @leviturner3265
      @leviturner3265 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I think Brownells should have kept making their retro AR-15's, and AR-10's too. Fulton Armory makes retro AR-15's to order. They do at least an M16A1-clone, and a M16-A2 clone. I believe it cost about the same. You just have to wait 3-4 weeks for them to put it together for you. I believe they have been making them for years now. They do M14-clones as well those have a good reputation, as do the M1 Carbines that they build. So I imagine the AR's are also quite decent.
      I would love to see gun shops actually stocking the retro uppers, stripped lowers, and complete lowers, as well as rifles to boost sales, and incentivize the production of these rifles.

    I cant wait for them to become available. Costs a little more than the Brownell rifles did. I hope they are closer to the $1200 than the $1500 range for the A1 clone.
    Kind of nice to hopefully be able to buy the H&R since that is one of the rifles that I carried.
    Looking forward to having a representative of each rifle I carried during my 25 years of service.

    All the new AR's, so much for the affordable ar, but will they check the head spacing, and chamber- bbl lug go no go? So many problems with these things, I love my M1A-M14

    • @Sandhill1988
      @Sandhill1988 ปีที่แล้ว

      Head spacing is done at the factory when the barrel extension is pinned into place. Not even a concern with a factory built rifle. Now if your going to barrel an upper yourself it wouldn't hurt to check to be on the safe side.
