    I just bought an original Nodak Spud XM177...It's only been fired once...the previous owner sold his whole collection,including a consecutively serial numbered lower receivers built into the one I bought and a M16 a1.....I was intending on building another one,but just stumbled upon the Nodak gun on Sunday!??.So I bought it!!

    The original receivers were actually marked "COMMANDO"

      I didn't know that. The funny thing is i have a lower that says commando and it was the 44,000 made.

    That is a super nice. Absolutely love it. I just pick up a Colt A2 upper about a month ago. Trying to find the right colt lower receiver without brake the bank is almost impossible. Even the newer ones are expensive.

    Great Video! FYI the XM-177-E2 Flash Hider/Moderator was design to make the CAR-15 sound like an AK-47 by the use of Baffles inside the Muzzle Device that is why BATFE declared it a Sound Suppressor and many of the ones that Veteran purchased overseas had to be Registered under the NFA or be Destroyed. The XM177-E2 that survived combat in Vietnam and came back to the US were re-finished and put back into the inventory for Special Operation Units like Navy Seals, USMC Force Recon, US Army 75th Rangers Reconnaissance Company (RRC) and Special Forces just to name a few. The XM177-E2 Sound Moderator allowed this units to go behind enemy lines and if they needed to shoot someone the enemy would think it was someone using an AK47 which would give our guys time to get away. The XM177-E2 did stay in the Inventory of Clandestine Units till the mid-1990s when it was replaced by the SOPMOD M4 but there are USAF Security Units that still have have a few XM177-E2 in their Weapon Cages to this day!
    I was able to pickup a 11.5 inch M4-A1 1/7 twist Barrel that is a heavy barrel with a M203 cutout on it because the barrel is so thick and I have been able to get everything to build a NEO-XM177-E2 except the A1 Upper with M4 cutouts they are really hard to find because allot of people are making the Retro build because they are allot of fun to source the parts and put together but I had a JP M4 Upper so I am currently using it until I find the A1 upper but that barrel is as accurate as any 16 or 20 inch AR that I have but with 5.5 CAR-15 Flash Hider pin and welded it is a very nice shooter for any sort of Competition or House Clearing Exercise makes me miss my issue M4 from my time in uniform.

    I picked up about 10 A1 grips when they were cheap. I put them on all my guns and think they are as close to perfect as you can get. Should have my XM build done once my form 1 goes through. I start that process this week.

    I saw one in the early 90s that looked exactly like this, but it had a polymer butt stock and it was made by eagle arms. maybe the hand grip had a finger grooves.

    • @jimd1968
      @jimd1968 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I never saw one like it, and it to me was one of the coolest looking ARs I have seen. Back in the 90s before the ban in my state this person sold it with a rifle bag and each pocket full of 30 RDs Mags and the mags was full of 223. This one could shoot both 556 and 223. I had one of the original red dot sights on it as well, the one you had to have both eyes open and it would super impose the red dot. Really cool and I have regretted not picking it up. But the one thing I see on these retro XM177 is this had the polymer butt stock where all the others had the collappable butt stock.

    Are the current production flash moderators that bring the barrel length up to 16" longer than the original military ones? In other words, were the original military issue guns over 16" bbl if they had been pinned and welded?

    • @pourindiesel
      @pourindiesel  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several sources of xm177 faux moderator (flash hiders) for retro builds to bring your barrel to 16" or over when pinned and welded.
      The original military xm177s were under 16" (shorter moderator).

  • @warlockcommandcenter
    @warlockcommandcenter 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This is a very nice clone I’m sorry that you don’t have a complete grip. This grip looks like an AR 180 grip all Bakelite grip but. Someone cut off the sling attachment loop this would have been as issued to the troops with the loop cut off it would be a field weapon correct to some of the production may have even been retrofitted with the standard M16 grip in inventory at the colt factory as the loop was considered to noise for the Green beret, seals and lurps that were issued to them in South East Asia. But t tit on the front of the grip is right just sad to see the loop gone. And they were noisy.

      Barrels and faux moderators are made by several manufacturers. I bought mine pinned and welded from Tony's customs. It comes in at over 16" oal (I have measured myself to verify). Don't assume you have the same parts or barrel as anyone else. DO NOT assemble a title 2 firearm without first receiving your stamped, approved form one.

    @timmmax 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think it was the Architect Ludwig Meis Van Der Rohe who said "God is in the details." This 'clone' is ok if you don't care about the details. Quite inaccurate. Your' barrel profile is not correct and there was no crush washer behind the grenade ring. Ejection port door had a rectangular stop piece not a square and there was no tick mark on the safety selector on the right side. The delta ring vs slip ring is actually correct for the E1 and E2 variants. Yes, the slip ring was more prolific on the E1 but there are plenty of photos that show the E2's with the slip ring rather than the delta ring. The Colt teardrop forward assists were tapered unlike the one on yours. But the biggest flaw is the A2 profile DPMS lower receiver. Sorry to nitpick but if you are going to post something as a clone, you might as well represent with correct historical accuracy.
