It comes with time but you'll know. There is a wide variety of people you will come across. Some will hire you because of necessity and don't care what it costs, others with make you work for their business. All part of the game!
Angies list is owned by Home Advisor. I used to do my own website and seo but handed it over to a company that does the work for me. Cost is under $300 a month, really nothing and it brings me in six figures a year. I started with google but dropped them, I get close to 200 leads a month. Thanks for the tip about church papers!

The most business I get is from Facebook groups . I just post my logo and phone number. It’s been effective. I’ve been thinking about Facebook ads . I couldn’t handle instagram. It’s a shit show. Yelp is annoying. Nextdoor is my number one go to . Thanks buddy for great content.
i know this video is a bit older but i get 75% of my jobs from facebook ads and 25% from referals and Flyers that i have thrown all across my market. The Trick is to know who to target. who you customers are. I dont do ads anywhere else and im booked up right now!

Your competition on Craigslist, depend on your service area, are mostly crack heads willing to pick anything up for a very low cost. In my opinion, Craigslist is the worst possible way to acquire clientele. You definitely CAN get customer from it but, like Craigslist competition, your customers are not quality either.
Actual ad. Check with your local newspaper about it. If you live in a city don't try to advertise in the city paper. You want to be in the super local paper thats around you. For example. I service the Greater Boston Area but I'm not going to advertise in the Boston Globe. I advertise a couple towns around me that make their own small news paper for the families that live there.

If you're a great salesman then yes. They unfortunately have been know to send bogus leads and I have experienced those myself. If you have the patience to deal with cheap customers and constant phone calls to their customer service line to credit fake leads then I would sign up. I used them for the first 2 years of having my business and got TONS of work.
Have you thought about yard signs? I know yard signs work in Houston! Its super cheap too!! We made a video the other day about the general do's and don'ts of bandit signs.
