I love my 1968 912! It was my Dad's and I am looking forward to restoring it with my son. Last year we started it for the first time in 10 years. Checked the oil, manually turned the over the motor to make sure it wasn't t seized, put in a new battery, fresh fuel, and she started on the first try. Indestructible!!!
This channel should have way more views and should be really popular because their work is always excellent and well done. Great audio and camera views, high definition, awesome stories with awesome cars and characters, it's an overall great channel! I know we all love these new and modern cars, but to see the classics in this grade of quality, it's actually pretty amazing. You guys deserve a TV show or something.
It is unfortunate that many 911 owners will not or cannot recognize anything beyond the 911 even though the ultimate success of the Porsche company relied on several other models along its journey to becoming the great car manufacturer that it is today… Very enjoyable video and glad to see more of Porsche's other efforts...
I always thought of the 912 as the dim younger brother. We had customers bring them in and I'd have an automatic prejudice against the car, as it was the "economy" Porsche. Having watched this video, I realize I was looking at things the wrong way. I'd never considered weight savings before. Now I want one of these, with modern ignition and fuel delivery. That would be a hoot!
EXCELLENT!!! I applaud you for your work. This is beautiful. A complete work of art. I personally would have liked for a little more "original - stock" look on the interior and the engine, but you Sir are an artist that have brought this dead spirit back to life.
Did a quick search for any new 912 videos and was thrilled to find and view yours! Great job and thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I got my '69 912 about a year ago and am enhancing to 1883 cc and loving it!
Glad to see a frenchy on that channel. You are like the frenchy urban outlaw. I love the way you are taking that 912 to a modified personal car that you enjoy wish I could do the same.
Petrolicious Goodness as always..... Brought back memories as a college student.... Looked at buying one to upgrade from my tired 81 vw rabbit.... it was a 1967 912 also.... it was between that and a slightly used Mk1 GTI .... Ended up with the GTi, for the simple reason that the replacement parts (brake rotors, engine parts, etc) were super expensive.... Price was about the same as the GTI... could have 'bought it' but couldn't have fixed it when it broke.. =) Ahhhh the late 80's .... Still love the 912's though !
***** I have been following your videos for almost 1.5 years and I must (again) compliment the video choreography. This Porsche 912 clip was shot in a very different style from your previous videos, and I find it was a successful prototype. The quick cuts, sound effects and subtle music create a great progressive atmosphere compared to the slick and perfect style in some of your previous Porsche videos. Sometimes, I felt that the videos were almost too alike in regards to style, too slick, too similar and "poetic" (you know, the big words those owners sometimes use to describe their hobby). I am impressed how successful you pulled off this video to move forward or at least to leave the path of proven success. It's still Petrolicious, but it's a rougher, more experimental style. I thoroughly enjoyed this experiment and I'm very much looking forward to future efforts. Not necessarily in the same style as this 912 video, but in again different, new experimental styles. There are many great car channels on TH-cam, but Petrolicious is really the only one that canvasses the emotional component of car enthusiasm in a beautifully artistic composition of pictures and sounds that finally do justice to it. tl/dr version: I love your channel so, so much, and you constantly try to improve yourself. Go, Petrolicious, go!
I really like this guy...he paints a very real picture of what it is to grow up, accept responsibility, and become a man. Sometimes life events make these things happen a bit faster.
A Porsche to me starts of more like a blank canvas then the character of the owner, the colour chosen, the mods, the customisations, the amount of owners it may have been through and all the years spent with it all come together to paint the true art of each one.
watching this was.. a pleasure. I like that old 912 what a melodic roar, and the engine bay looks top-notch I like seeing those quality fittings and braided lines. Give it hell over there in France and best wishes to your new family!
…or mothers. I met a man today who was driving the 1968 912 his mother bought new. It was her daily driver. He inherited it with a lot of work needed. He spent $10,000 on the paint job. The color, cloud something, was long since retired and they had to go to Porsche to get it.
LOVE THIS!!! Car love and passions transcend everything, and everywhere. America, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and anywhere else it's the same thing. 😍 done video and that building and little village. Wonderful. Living the dream.
That is one sweet ride you have there Julien, good for you for taking on the 912. Years ago I had the opportunity to buy a nice condition 356 but didn't. Of course I wish I had now. As for the early shape 911 or 912s they are really are the best looking of them all. Far too many sadly have been butchered to make them look like later models. As always yet another superb production from Petrolicious. Thanks guys, you are awesome.
LMMFAO!!!!! I just got a Irish green 912 Targa hard window to restore over time from my uncle, and I can tell you lots about what's wrong and bad about them... But...!!!!!!!!!! This beauty is like Julien said, 'a car to be enjoyed', driving and WORKING on it, because I know I will NEVER get it perfect for long... Something will always fail (unless you replace almost everything). The car is a bit of a 'lemon' overall; AWESOME car, don't get me wrong; and Juliens' is the BEST condition one I've ever seen!!!!! (I worked and qualified as a technician at Porsche). I believe (and I might be wrong) that it was never a 'perfect condition, daily, trustworthy driver'. This is a car for a mechanical minded and handy person with a passion for doing everything, by hand if possible (sort of like raising a child... LOL Not by hitting, just so we're clear :P ). You can fix (teach the child) 1 thing today which will affect the outcome of something else tomorrow, or drive less homogeneous (give the child a less stable environment) and it might get upset and break down. All I know is I love this car :D
I suspect one day he will do a video on the Yugo... early Hyundai Excel... or perhaps the Chevy Vega... and make people drool over them and rush out to buy.
I remember a time, not so long a go - the mid 90s, when a driveable 912 could be had for $2000. A good friend of mine had one in high school. We once fit six people inside that little Porsche. One summer we rebuilt the engine. And to think tat today they are again revered Porsches!
Agreed, the cars were considered valueless. It seems like "not so long ago" but the mid 90's was 20 years ago. Plenty of people watching this video are probably under 20 yrs old, so it was a lifetime ago for them.
Great story! I can relate to the concept of a sleeper 912 that can take on early 911's. I have a 1967 912 with what amounts to a 4 cylinder Porsche 993 engine. I makes around 200 horse power. It can be found online at PompoloDesign.
This 912 really reminds me of a friends Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. He has a built motor, suspension, seats, etc, but still feels like a solid, daily drive-able, car! I wish Petrolicious would do a video on the original Karmann Ghia (type 14)
I wish Porsche would create a modern 912, preferably with non of the electronic suspension manipulation systems and with manual-adjusting seats. A lightweight rear-engined flat-4 sports car that would cost about the same as, or a bit less than, a base Cayman. 225-235 hp would be about right.
Man do I wish that would happen! Luckily, Porsche is about to begin production of the "face-lifted" Boxster & Cayman for the 2017 model year, and both will have flat 4 turbocharged engines (first time for Porsche since the 912E in 1976) and all will make close to 400 hp & range between 2.0L to 2.5L displacements.
I bought a Brand new 912 in April 1967. drove to Monterey California January 1968 and back to Philly in June 1968 The Army sent me to Germany so I had to give it up.
Which country was this taken in ? Somewhere near Paris, but place ? The roads and countryside is amazing :)! Wonderful production, loved the scenic beauty and to top it off, we have a vintage 67' Porsche 912 ;)!
Hi I live near Los Angeles California , I have 68 porsche 912, I have 2387 type1 ready to install, I have question about the mounting points and the factory mustache bar and keeping the factory cooling tin, to keep as stalk as possible.. You give hope Jimmy, thank you
Julien Borne awesome car dude...don't know why but porsches look so good in red...my friend has a 06 Carrera and it looks so nice in that colour, never thought an older 912/911 would look good in that colour also....really nice colour...beautiful car.
Julien Borne Nice car Julien. What width and offset are the wheels, and which exhaust is that please? I get my 66 back this weekend after being painted original black, then reassemble time! Cheers
leesmartin Wheels are 16x6 and 16x7 original fuchs but I do not recall the offset. The exhaust is a personal design, I had to cut the rear end of a T1 stainless steel performance header, and I designed & welded the rest out of stainless tubing and a standard stainless muffler can.
No such thing as a bad Porsche. The 944 and 968 models were generally frowned upon when they were new but later got a lot of praise and are real performance bargains nowadays. Same thing with the 928. Those who owned one loved it and they day it went out of production it still looked fresh.
maybe Im talking out my ass but I thought everyone knew a 928 with more than a few miles on the clock was a tremendous money pit. No doubt a very competent car, if you had the resources to keep it on the road. Resale prices pretty much prove this to be the case, 928s always have been so cheap there had to be something wrong. Possibly unrelated, but check out values of the MB SL600 of the late 90s vintage. As low as a few thou, WTF? Ah. The first years of EU mandated biodegradeable pvc wire insulation. They all need new wiring harnesses! Doh!
"under the paint is a lot of sweat"...words of a true Car Guy
Props to the filmmakers/editors raising the bar even higher with the style of this one. Beautifully done!
I love my 1968 912! It was my Dad's and I am looking forward to restoring it with my son. Last year we started it for the first time in 10 years. HOW IS IT STILL
“Never hesitate” “Let’s weld and grind and see what’s underneath” you sir, are doing it right 👍🏼

This channel is so awesome. Beautiful camera work and awesome stories! His "do not hesitate" quote can be applied to do many things in my life.

the complexity of presenting simplicity at its finest, fantastic as always Petrolicious !
BRAVO!
I always thought of the 912 as the dim younger brother. We had customers bring them in and I'd have an automatic prejudice against the car, as it was the "economy" Porsche. Having watched this video, I realize I was looking at things the wrong way. I'd never considered weight savings before. Now I want one of these, with modern ignition and fuel delivery. i am in LOVE with the quality and cleanliness of these films. Classy, and very pleasant to watch.
My dad had the vary rare 912 targa from 1969. I was in love with the car and I swore that I will buy one when I have the money.
Thanks you petrolicious for your perfect timing. I recently purchased a '69 912 and I finally have some time to play with it this weekend :)
Love these intimate owner perspectives. The passion is superb.Thank you Petrolicious.
"It's not to show off; it's to enjoy." Perfect attitude.
"not a car to show off, a car to drive"
EXCELLENT!!! I applaud you for your work. This is beautiful. A complete work of art. I personally would have liked for a little more "original - stock" look on the interior and the engine, but you Sir are an artist that have brought this dead spirit back to life.
lol first the 912, now the 914! Love the revivals of the entry level porsches. These are for drivers and builders. So much fun.
Did a quick search for any new 912 videos and was thrilled to find and view yours! Great job and thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I got my '69 912 about a year ago and am enhancing to 1883 cc and loving it!
i love this series; the 1-offs, limited runs & odd-balls of the auto-world, awesome! thanks...
Always awesome! Thank you.
This is the best car content on the Internet. Thank you so much Petrolicious
Bravo Julien !!! Elle est magnifique cette 912 !!!
Very well made video! Thanks guys!
Fantastic video!
Excellent restoration ,tres bien !

Beautiful video,
as usual!
really nice car and great story.sorry for your father.
Outstanding film. Well done.
I would take this 912 in a second its so well done.
0:52 The scene from Inception with the two mirrors was shot here!
Absolutely beautiful, fantastic car!
I have a few early P cars (911s, 912s, 944s, 356), but I've had my 67 912 for 35 years and I will die with that car.
Bravo Julien ! Magnifique 🤩 une bien belle histoire, merci encore Petrolicious 👍
Love the quick editing on this one
I like this guy, his story and his car. Great.
Magnifique !

Petrolicious does another beautiful video with a lovely story.
Thank you!
Id take a 911 912 it don't matter as long as it has the shape I fell in love with as a kid.
What a likeable guy! He deserves the car!
Love it!! Seen every video petrolicious has made and I've loved every single one
What a beautiful video.....great thoughts and insight into this passionate ane meaningful project.....what a sweet sound too..:-)
inspirational
Cool video, I enjoy the 912 more than the 911. I think it's because it is the underdog in their line up.
Bravo pour ta porsche magnifique
Great looking car!
always such great filming and music selection! really high quality videos!
I suspect one day he will do a video on the Yugo... early Hyundai Excel... or perhaps the Chevy Vega... and make people drool over them and rush out to buy.

this video would make me consider getting a 912 in place of a properly sorted Carrera.
Smart man putting a type 4 engine in the 912...Jake Raby does a excellent job of research and tuning those engines in the States.
Very nice indeed I've always had a soft spot for the 912 myself.
Respect.
beautiful car!

Your engines just rocks Chris !!! If I had won at the lottery I definitely would have order one from you...
But I'm still happy with my 180hp T1 :')
Your engines180 hp is plenty of power to have a great time out on the road. Once again, I love your car and video.
Chris
Chris Pomares
Thanks Chris, I do have great times on the roads :')
polo motor in a 912 = automotive perfection
Hey Chris , I have some questions of installation of type1 into my 68 912 , how can I contact you ?
Jimmy
No idea why people are saying this isn't working, the original upload worked for me too.
The original video worked for me this morning as well, but it was then marked as private later in the day. May have been an accident.
Petrolicious productions are worth all patience. Your work is fantastic.
Bravo Julien. Beau boulot !
Classy....Beautiful artistic film....100%
It works..... Nice car.
This 912 really reminds me of a friends Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. He has a built motor, suspension, seats, etc, but still feels like a solid, daily drive-able, car! I wish Petrolicious would do a video on the original Karmann Ghia (type 14)

another awesome video you made my day!!!!!!!!!!!

Magnifique, j'espère pouvoir croiser cette Porsche un jour.
Wonderful car!
great story and great 912 ,thanks for sharing, Hope to see it at 2017 Le Mans classic
Where did he get those posters
Awesome 👍
Nice work I use to ride my bike past a 912 home from school each day wishing to have one some day.

These videos are so great!
1:15 What was the red light on for?
It is a low fuel warning. I was short on gas and in short curves the light was switching on. :)
Julien Borne awesome car dude...don't know why but porsches look so good in red...my friend has a 06 Carrera and it looks so nice in that colour, never thought an older 912/911 would look good in that colour also....really nice colour...beautiful car.
