I met John when he was playing in a bar in Nashville. He’s such a great guy! So sweet and he was excited to tell me about his pedal board and guitar he was playing.
I saw him in St. Louis a few weeks ago. It's like this guy walked in from 1975 and blew our minds. He's only in his 20s, so there's about 75 years of Marcus King to go.
This kid is for real. Was at a party and heard some awesome background blues/rock. Shazaam'd it and low and behold, Marcus King. Hope he rises to the level of Kenny Wayne Shepherd and beyond.
I’ve watched this like 5 times it’s so good. The very first thing that Marcus kinda warms up on, kinda a little almost skyward thing. It’s so hot. Been sitting here tryin to get it just right. Both of these guys are so cool.
I saw Marcus at Jazz Fest in NOLA ‘23, really looked forward to it, as I’ve heard so much about him. Let me tell you he was so F**king LOUD I coudn’t take it. After the set, It was SO loud I talked to the sound man to find out why. Maybe at some point in the future I’ll see him and appreciate what he has to offer at a reasonable volume. Or maybe not.
Marcus has game. It seems like this guy showed big talent at an early age and his space ship was shot into the right orbit. I doubt you could get his guy to quit playing. He puts it all up there. I could see John digging this one. I fell out when he said his Tube Screamer was his security blanket don't leave home without one. lol
@@geoffreycarter3981 When I got to work that day , I was walking towards the little stage , but couldn’t see who was playing- but what I heard was definitely NOT the run of the mill “band” we are accustomed to . Crazy guitar effects etc… , also the sound mix was much more “pro”. Once it all got into view , I was thinking what a treat it was going to be to witness this. Some software company had hired him and his band . Nice guy , let me get a quick pick with him . His wife was with him , and they did a great acoustic duet. It was a great night .

He mentions having reverb tanks behind his amps. Assuming they’re in effects loop for the orange. Anybody know what reverb tank he’s talking about? Sounds great
It's always the case - you want to hear the great players like Marcus just fresh into a hot valve amp and the awful ones through as many pedals as possible preferably with everything switched off at the mains
I wanna know who this dudes dad is bc he is the highest industry plant ever. Ain't nobody ever heard his music and he already has a signature amp?? Fucking propaganda I swear.

John treats all these artist with respect and admiration. Let's not forget how awesome John is though. To be complemented by John is a high honor.

John is awesome
Hes the man. Its funny he used to get some mean comments years ago but everybody loves him now which is the way it should be
I only watch Rig Rundowns that are hosted by John...his enthusiasm and knowledge are authentic and is a true breath of fresh air!
Classic pedal board! Love that Phase 100.
His gain staging is simple and elegant. Suits his style perfectly.

Just another perfect reminder that player is first effect in your “signal chain”. Marcus is the real deal.
Nice to see the Rotovibe get some love. Super cool pedal
MK is so chill and down to earth. I feel like he would be a great guy to sit next to anywhere.
John is the best! Ask all the right questions with enthusiasm!! Love it!
Love the guy, always smiling and having a good time!

Love Marcus King so cool and such a chill guy to be so incredibly talented
Best player out there right now !! The guy is on another level . #keepingthenbluesalive
not even close to the best, but he is a solid player
John is a gift to the guitar community!
Marcus is insanely talented
He whips along that fretboard
Great episode! Love Marcus' playing. Killer tones and those savage, wicked licks that rip your head off and summon the stankface at the same time.😆
Holy treble Batman, guess that's how you cut through the mix! Sounds killer though, great episode John.
Classic Scofield maxed out chorus setting at the end with a bit of "Hottentot" to match. I like this guy.
Simple and efficient gear for strat. Best sounds you can hear. Makes you forget about all hype on so called new revolutionary gear.
man.... he gets better every time i see some Video of his
Marcus has great comedic chops too. What a guy.
MK can wail like Hell! 💚
"Yeah I keep it a little slappy..." love it

Albert, Freddy, BB and now Marcus!
Loved it - learned a lot
Nice to hear him going all Kevin shields with the reverb pedal. Just about covers the full guitar spectrum!!
I like this type of gear review better, where each pedal is demoed …rather than talking too much about them
THIS MARCUS GUY IS A TRUE ORIGINAL! 👍

Good setup Good playing ! See the difference between practice playing and gig playing ?
That boy is an old soul and smooth as butta❤️🔥🤘💪
Never seen him with a strat before.
I need this pedal board for my Koa Ukulele.
Theirs gearheads then theirs John, and my gosh what a great picker
Some great sounds and playing! That initial sound with just the MXR boost made me nervous though
Tasteful licks and killer tone…
Definitely should put the Colordriver back on, it's a beast.

Something tells me this guy would be playing with Skynyrd is he was around back in the day.
He played with skynyrd a few nights ago
Every new vid of this guy and he’s way better than the last time I saw him… And he was freaky great before… Southern rock vibe strong!
Amazing tunes! Amazing Stratocaster timber as well.
Marcus looks like if Sam Kinison and Ronnie Van Zandt had a kid. Love him and I mean it respectfully.
great stuff - thanks dudes!
This is the kinda video that makes you wanna buy some MXR pedals
I just saw him play a private party last week - amazing player /singer and writer
that's BADASS To have MK at a private party lol holy shit

Can we get a rig rundown of Taylor York of Paramore? I think his new gear and sound are pretty epic
Trying our best...

Guitar legends are still around, they're just not in the charts anymore
What a great player!! He keeps his game tight like his shirt... 😝
Dude has tasty licks! Killer picking. He will get a compressor one day for that claw picking stuff.
tru fi love! nice great builder
Dream board
Christ, this guy can play! 😲
That was cool
WHO THE FUCK IS THIS GUY? I don't know but hes speaking my language with those licks
You don't need a volume pedal to kill the signal if the tuner pedal does that naturally.
6:15 The killer
Tomorrow live in Berlin 👍👍
He mentions having reverb tanks behind his amps. Assuming they’re in effects loop for the orange. Anybody know what reverb tank he’s talking about? Sounds great
Probably onboard spring tanks in the heads
for real i expected him to have a centaur and a zonk machine
LOVE MK 👌👌
Shout out Maine what's up!!

Don’t hear much of Marcus King here in the U.K, def a cool guy though!
Any chance of adding a salad to his pedalboard?
He looks the Sloth from the Goonies.
That guitarist can play a guitar, I'ma skateboarder 😋🫒😇
philip seymour hoffman reincarnates into a guitar god ! ^^
I put a Gibson signature 345 out then starts playing a strat. Lmao. He’s awesome on any guitar but o love the 345 tone the best.
pretty simple
They’re both high af 😊

Well damn this sucks, now I can’t use the excuse of my beer belly as the reason I can’t play good lead guitar.
OMG! MEATH LOAF!
Why do you need all this crap?
Looks like a two year old in a man’s body. But that 2 yo can play.
Put some respect on Marcus’ name..
I don’t know… sometimes it’s just too hard.
Who the heck is Marcus King? Never heard of him....
He's funny looking but I can't put my finger on it.
