If you open multiple chrome tabs at the same time like 30-40 tabs then go for a 16gb variant else 8gb 512 gb is good (for daily work only video editing and all will require more ram) Keep in mind that storage upgradation is not possible after buying as the interface is different than Nvme and 256gb ssd is too small to store data. Using external drives with Apple is also a stressful experience.
I would suggest go for m1 with 512 storage gonna cost u around 1.2 , if u found a student then use him /her to buy as they give huge discount to students and rest i for just excel watching videos a compact windows laptop is good enough ( 40 to 60 ) be sure it's intel 11 gen + , or ryzen 5000 gen + , i would suggest asus vivobook
1) If you definitely want to buy a macbook irrespective of anything than 16 gb ram 2) But i would recommend you to just buy a good Chromebook, it will cost fraction of that and will be just as good for the tasks you've mentioned ( great battery life, lag free experience, security, some even have expandable storage ) 3) Also just buy m1 air buz there is marginal difference between those, m2 only have better graphics but that's not your concern with really low cost.
Bezels could be further reduced,if possible eliminate notch,fanless design should be avoided,High refresh rate OLED or MiniLED display should be adopted given the high price.
For those not having M1 Macs the M2 MBA is a great updated new device when going for 16GB Unified Memory and 256 GB SSD - these specs will do wonders for everyday use, coding and a bit of gaming too !!

If you have budget constraints then M1 Base would be an ideal choice for you. However if you can extend your budget then go for the M2 and that too - 512GB variant or above. Sadly, it costs 40k more if you purchase it as a normal customer whereas if you apply the student discount by UNiDAYS on Apple's website, you can save 10k. I've been using M1 since a long time and it works seamlessly. Also, I have purchased the M2 Air (512GB) due to slow SSD read/write speeds in the base variant (256GB). If you're looking for a Macbook for daily productivity at a comparatively less price then my advice would be - BASE variant of M1. Precisely, M2 Air (Base) is way better than M1 Air (Base) in almost everything except the slower SSD speeds due to a single 256GB NAND Flash Drive instead of 2×128GB. Hope you got your answer?! 😄

However if you're ditching M2 for not having a wedge shaped design like M1 then you're making a wrong choice firstly, because the wedge shape will not return anytime to the Air in the future even a couple of years later when M2 Pro/Max/Ultra or M3 launches and secondly, as per Apple, the uniform design makes it more sturdy and makes it look very thin also lining the Air's design with the 14" and 16" Macbook Pro family. I have both and honestly speaking, the uniform thickness feels and looks much better. You should go and have a demo and real-time comparison at any official reseller of Apple around you, you'll get it. P.S :- Whichever model you go for, I'd advice you to purchase it from Apple online directly under student discount (UNiDAYS) i.e 10k plus you'll get free Airpods (2nd Gen) with engraving of your choice. No reseller will give you free Airpods even if it gives you a student discount which will be the same as of what Apple gives you online. 😉
