It is literally the best laptop in market but choosing right variant is very important, for my use case 16gb ram is minimal, but the 16gb 512gb variant is out of my budget and if i buy the base variant it will be big problem for me.
@@focusedtortoise nothing much, computer science student, doing basic full stack developement. 8 gb is pretty low, Running a simple open source software with docker lags a lot, cannot open bigger images. windows and macos already take 3-4gb of ram then vscode tkes 1-2gb and further frameworks and then few gb for docker and if you run vm or wsl it takes 1-2gb ram itself. My current laptop only has 8gb so i switched to linux and switched from vscode to neovim, now i can do everything in 3gb ram that took 7gb in windows.

It's been 3.5 Years for my macbook air m1 base model. and I didn't spend any penny for service and other things. and its still giving very good performance and battery. my daily use was avg 6-7 Hrs.

am using the 13 inch for about 1 year, do there is any performance difference in that or is the SSD issues fixed, if not I am very happy that I bought the 512 GB SSD one

I have mac air m1 and its worth every penny. I am no apple fanboy since I have a legion Y740 top model too. The sound, display, performance, battery life and the typing experience is unparalleled. But unless you are looking strictly looking for development/productivity, then you will regret buying it. If you are coming from windows, you will see that there are so many key features missing. There are many restrictions in software openness. And there is no scope for upgrade either i.e. you are stuck forever with whatever you decide to buy. To summarise, if you are thinking whether you should buy mac or not, THEN DON'T BUY IT. Only buy mac if you are absolutely sure that you need it.

I have to disagree with the software thing. Finest softwares are still available only for macos. The experience is so good while using them , no complaints. E.g Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Things 3 and my favourite and the best browser out there.... Arc. There are more examples but these are some popular ones. Even with the low market share these software makers target macOS first. The reasons is simple. It is better for professional and creative work.
Adobe Creative suite runs better on Windows. AutoCAD is probably one of the few engineering softwares available on the mac. Most of the engineering softwares are available on Windows

yeah true, people also don't give attention to RAM usage in mac for entry level macs which do memory swap like 8GB ones, 16Gb RAM version ones also do but as there memory is more available it occurs rarely but in 8GB version it will occur a lot of time, Memory swap is mechanism by which whenever there is less RAM available it will use ssd for some tasks, but this increases read and write on ssd which slows it down over time and you will feel your mac has been slowed down. Yeah it is same as RAM plus feature is Samsung and androids. That's why if you're going to buy for med to high use go for 16Gb as unlike windows upgrading RAM in Mac is near to impossible.

@@ShashankDwivedi-dh3mo Hi Shashank, I would suggest you once go through syllabus and gather info on which tools/softwares you will be using, as far as I know, ML models do take a lot of ram, So I would suggest go with 16Gb RAM Mac, If its expensive (it's fucking actually) go with windows you won't have to spend so much when you are learning, once you start earning at the end of your degree then you can go for Mac as it's simplicity of use, where in windows you can do anything only con for me in windows is battery life, everything else seems on par with mac to me

I have used macbook pro early 2015 since 2016... Engineering khatam kar dali Matlab, premier pro, android studio, jupyter lab sab chalaya hai.... Its 2024, and now the laptop feels a bit lag after latest OS update... 6yrs and still running, paisa vasool pura... 😌

Windows me options bahot h, different hardwares pe same updates chlti h, isliye kuch systems pe dikkt ati h. I have worked for MS, so I know that sometimes issues are seen for some specific models after an update. For Mac, it is just 1 hardware, no choice, so it is well tested and rolled out to users. I use both Mac and Windows, and love both. I do love Windows more as I am new to Mac.
That's rubbish. It tells that you've never owned a laptop. Blue screens happen when you are toying with laptop, too much formatting, changing bios settings.

@@laveeshtomar c++ is definitely best for solving DSA problems. Basically most of the frameworks for real time projects are in python so it gives ease of syntax usage. Imagine if you are a backend developer with flask fast api etc and you would wanna upscale for DSA, if same language is used that would lead to less switching between languages.

yes, any mac is best for cybersec. And its a beast when it comes to high performance and efficiency because we are going to use diff OS in our VM or VirtualBox and mac is has good amt of core which are insanely good. You can also prefer using gaming or even simple business laptops for cybersec but while you running really heavy application or even compiling your code, it becomes noisy and so mac is really a good option. EDIT: i've been using mac for past 2 years and it still goes hard

I went to a local Apple retailer to buy a MacBook Air 15". The price was the same as on the Apple website, but I would not get free AirPods with the purchase. However, the retailer offered me a MacBook M1 Pro 16" for the same price as the MacBook Air 15". I didn't take the deal because I wanted the free AirPods. So i ordered macbook air 15" on the apple website with student discount and After receiving the MacBook Air 15", I regretted not taking the MacBook M1 Pro 16". The free AirPods are useless and hurt my ears. I recommend not going for the free AirPods and getting a better deal from a local retailer.
Sorry to say this buddy. Your knowledge about software development is impeccable, but when it comes to hardware, you need to revisit a few things. Latest M series chips do not support Boot camp, thus Windows can only be run via VMs. As for the parts, even here in Pakistan all parts are easily available for Macs from as old as 2014. I'm very certain India would be even better in that. Third, software compatibility is, and will always be a bigger issue on Macs than on Windows due to the sheer volume of a windows users. Lastly, gaming. Macs are simply not for gamers. Where Macs have an edge is if you are developing for Apple products. Also, the Unix backbone of MacOS is a blessing for devs. Especially for C, PHP, Ruby, and Python. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Mac mini is one of the best machines you can buy within 50000. It comes with the latest m2 processor. Get a good screen in 10k, a good keyboard and mouse for 3k. Best buy in 63k even if compared to any of windows laptops
I make it a point to never use any apple products for anything....Even if I find that my workflow is better on an apple product, I don't buy the apple product, instead I change my workflow which keeps me learning new things which can only benefit me in the long run.....a 2 lakh + laptop doesn't make sense to me.....as a freelancer I think it is smarter to use a mid range setup and focus more on learning skills

I have to disagree with the software thing. Finest softwares are still available only for macos. The experience is so good while using them , no complaints. E.g Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Things 3 and my favourite and the best browser out there.... Arc. There are more examples but these are some popular ones. Even with the low market share these software makers target macOS first. The reasons is simple. It is better for professional and creative work.

yeah true, people also don't give attention to RAM usage in mac for entry level macs which do memory swap like 8GB ones, 16Gb RAM version ones also do but as there memory is more available it occurs rarely but in 8GB version it will occur a lot of time,
Memory swap is mechanism by which whenever there is less RAM available it will use ssd for some tasks, but this increases read and write on ssd which slows it down over time and you will feel your mac has been slowed down.
Yeah it is same as RAM plus feature is Samsung and androids.
That's why if you're going to buy for med to high use go for 16Gb as unlike windows upgrading RAM in Mac is near to impossible.

@@ShashankDwivedi-dh3mo Hi Shashank, I would suggest you once go through syllabus and gather info on which tools/softwares you will be using, as far as I know, ML models do take a lot of ram, So I would suggest go with 16Gb RAM Mac, If its expensive (it's fucking actually) go with windows you won't have to spend so much when you are learning, once you start earning at the end of your degree then you can go for Mac as it's simplicity of use, where in windows you can do anything only con for me in windows is battery life, everything else seems on par with mac to me

Windows me options bahot h, different hardwares pe same updates chlti h, isliye kuch systems pe dikkt ati h. I have worked for MS, so I know that sometimes issues are seen for some specific models after an update. For Mac, it is just 1 hardware, no choice, so it is well tested and rolled out to users. I use both Mac and Windows, and love both. I do love Windows more as I am new to Mac.

@@laveeshtomar c++ is definitely best for solving DSA problems. Basically most of the frameworks for real time projects are in python so it gives ease of syntax usage. Imagine if you are a backend developer with flask fast api etc and you would wanna upscale for DSA, if same language is used that would lead to less switching between languages.

@@nirajprajapati2919 yes I'm computer science engineer i purchased a laptop in 2014 and i still code from it but it's getting slow so i decided if i want to buy windows and mac and i come to conclusions that mac is something which is not one time purchase, you might have to do extra things here and there to find alternative do things. so my suggestion if budget is not issue go for Mac it's for long run but also if you have tight budget and want to purchase one time thing go for windows i purchased hp pavilion 15 ab032tx at 2014 it's still running awesome, they say mac is for long run but window can also do long run but yes i have to format windows 1 time after 5 years so not a big deal for me

yes, any mac is best for cybersec. And its a beast when it comes to high performance and efficiency because we are going to use diff OS in our VM or VirtualBox and mac is has good amt of core which are insanely good. You can also prefer using gaming or even simple business laptops for cybersec but while you running really heavy application or even compiling your code, it becomes noisy and so mac is really a good option.
EDIT: i've been using mac for past 2 years and it still goes hard

I went to a local Apple retailer to buy a MacBook Air 15". The price was the same as on the Apple website, but I would not get free AirPods with the purchase.
However, the retailer offered me a MacBook M1 Pro 16" for the same price as the MacBook Air 15". I didn't take the deal because I wanted the free AirPods.
So i ordered macbook air 15" on the apple website with student discount and After receiving the MacBook Air 15", I regretted not taking the MacBook M1 Pro 16".
The free AirPods are useless and hurt my ears.
I recommend not going for the free AirPods and getting a better deal from a local retailer.

Sorry to say this buddy. Your knowledge about software development is impeccable, but when it comes to hardware, you need to revisit a few things.
Latest M series chips do not support Boot camp, thus Windows can only be run via VMs.
As for the parts, even here in Pakistan all parts are easily available for Macs from as old as 2014. I'm very certain India would be even better in that.
Third, software compatibility is, and will always be a bigger issue on Macs than on Windows due to the sheer volume of a windows users.
Lastly, gaming. Macs are simply not for gamers.
Where Macs have an edge is if you are developing for Apple products. Also, the Unix backbone of MacOS is a blessing for devs. Especially for C, PHP, Ruby, and Python.

I make it a point to never use any apple products for anything....Even if I find that my workflow is better on an apple product, I don't buy the apple product, instead I change my workflow which keeps me learning new things which can only benefit me in the long run.....a 2 lakh + laptop doesn't make sense to me.....as a freelancer I think it is smarter to use a mid range setup and focus more on learning skills
