    Most the people saying, it it doesn't have a heater, it does but it needs to have the engine running so as long as you leave it in hybrid mode it'll start the engine up to gain a bit of heat. Also if you actually look you'll be surprised how common it is to have no electric heater on hybrids, the difference is mg are honest about it where as many companies try and hide it just like they do the true tech specs.

    If it’s anything like my Outlander. Once the car gets to it required heat the engine should shut off and mainly run from electric only.

    I was on the verge of ordering one of these as I have a small caravan to tow so a full electrics currently out of the question....but,the lack of a heater in pure ev mode has really put me off with the sort of journeys we do throughout the winter.A real.shame as the car is fantastic apart from that.Hopefully a update will follow.

      as an ev owner let me assure you that heated seats work wonders. I only put the heating on when demisting in my leaf. having the engine come on for a few mins of a 15 to 20 mins journey wouldn't have a massive hit on mpg, pulling a caravan would use vastly more energy. we ordered one of these as we were very impressed with the ev range and even mpg when running in a mix of electric and normal mode (elec for slow roads, normal for fast ones). just take one for a test drive around your normal roads and try it.

    I really like these but is it the case with all PHEV’s that you can’t use heating while in EV mode,and is that the same for aircon.If so im thinking this will wear thin so you will revert back to the engine and then really what’s the point.

      This is also my thinking considering how many months of the year we need the heater on in this country.

    I have a Ford Kuga PHEV on order - I would have really considered cancelling my order and getting an MG HS but the heater/A.C is a game changer. Why would they not fit the ability to preheat the cabin or have to use the engine to warm or cool the car..... Sorry

    • @axeami1354
      @axeami1354 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does use the engine for heating, it just turns it off if you use ev only mode since you've literally told the car not to start the engine. As for why it doesn't have an electric heater look at the pricetag, it's 10k less than most comparable hybrids.

    Great honest review - very helpful. Is it just the heating aspect of the climate control that doesn’t work in EV mode or do you also not get any fan / cooling?

  • @rachelrobinson4923

    Would the MPG drop off a cliff on a long run once the battery was used up? It then becomes a big heavy SUV lugging a an extra battery around

    • @johnmartin7158
      @johnmartin7158 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The vehicle would then go into HEV or what they call standard hybrid. It should never deplete itself completely of battery. If you listen to the video, he also explains that Rachel.
      This is a nice vehicle. Aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
      I wish these channels would answer questions.

    40mpg, OK so that's just under 6L/100km. Not great compared to a Toyota hybrid (3.4 - 4.3L/100km), but not bad. So it's obvious that charging the battery and using electrons as much as possible is going to up your fuel efficiency significantly (from 40 mpg up to 100mpg).

    Does the ICE provide any charge to EV battery, like on a traditional 'self charging' hybrid?

    • @ChorleyGroup
      @ChorleyGroup  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it charges using both regenerative braking and using excess engine power to provide charge. It also has 3 different settings, so you are able to maintain a level of charge for assistance with heavy acceleration or so that you can use EV mode for anticipated traffic jams.

  • @spg254
    @spg254 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very misleading. I own an MG HS phev and to say you get in in a morning and set off in EV mode is not true.
    I work 11mls from home, so a 22mile round trip should be no problem. (Wrong). Press the start button in the morning and the engine starts immediately, like it or not!. And you can only dream of EV mode for a good 4 or 5 miles until the engine gets to temperature. After around 4miles in EV mode, the engines cooled so fires up again!
    The EV button is simply a request to the onboard computer which often say’s NO. Average MPG after 6months of ownership: 53!
