1974 Honda CB360 Oil Change - How To

  • My son and I (finally) change the oil in the CB360.
    The oil change is a little more complex because it centrifugal oil filter system that needs to be cleaned instead of replaced. On the 1974 CB360 the right side engine cover must be removed to clean the oil filter. Getting the cover off isn't straight-forward.
    Follow along along as we go step-by-step through the oil change.

    Thank you for watching.

    This video was extremely helpful. I too have a cb360 which i recently purchased. It's my first vehicle -i have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever- but i'm excited for the challenge come spring. I hope you can continue to create videos. The fact that both you and your son both have a pedestrian understanding and learn as you go along is very calming and relatable for a neophyte such as myself.

      ThePeaceGawd Thank you for the feedback and comment, it's greatly appreciated.
      We're looking forward to working more on the bike, continuing to learn, and will definitely be documenting/videoing what we do. It's nice to know there are others on the same journey. I hope that my son and I will be able to give back as much as we learn during the process.
      Our plan is to rebuilt the carburetors next - we just need to get a free weekend! Stay tuned!!

    Nice project to share with your son or daughter! I really recommend changing the gasket though. Hopefully no leaks!

      Hey James, thanks for your comment. My son and I are getting ready to get into rebuilding the whole bike. When we do, you can be sure we'll be replacing gaskets and anything else that needs it!

      As you may have noticed, I've gotten a few comments about the music and I'm trying to decide what to do about it. What don't you like about the music? Too loud? Not the right music? What else? I appreciate your input.

      I think it's definitely too loud and doesn't add much or anything to the content. The content is solid but the overdone music detracts.

      @@ThePolishDad a bit of music when you are doing NOTHING is fine
      but at 3:50 you are talking over the music..... (i would have simply stopped the music.... said what i needed to.... then started up the music again when all im doing is cussing at the bolt that is stuck)
      .
      the "style" of the music doesnt matter
      just dont play some REALLY strange stuff (like... dont play the "meat puppets" first album)
      .

    • @kainhall
      @kainhall 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThePolishDad like.... the music at 9:20.... when all you are doing is removing bolts
      thats 110% fine (and even the style of music was fine)
      .
      it just when you are trying to talk over the music.... thats the issue
      .
      and i PERSONALLY could understand you
      but i have HIGH quality speakers....
      .
      people with cheap speakers/headphones (aka, 90% of people) would not be able to understand what you said

    I was confused at first because I skipped ahead a little. I was like, "why is the dumb ass taking off his exhaust and kick starter to change his oil?" I had to go back and listen to what you said in the opening. I don't have a CB360, but that seems like a horrible design. On my CB750 the oil filter comes off at the front with one screw, takes about ten minutes to do an oil change. How often do they suggest you open it up like that and clean the oil slinger? Hopefully not every oil change.

    • @ThePolishDad
      @ThePolishDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Believe it or not, they suggest every oil change! I try to put some common sense around that. I'll take a look at the oil when I change it, if it's gritty or really dirty, then I'll crack it open and clean the filter. If not, I'll put me oil in and be done.
      Thanks for your comment!

  • @freefromleftwing
    @freefromleftwing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For a proper oil filter screen clean , the filter should be removed from the body filter screen or use at list brake fluid applied through it . 4 hands are quite handy , I just do it with mines . Just wonder , how quick your engine oil gets darker ! ( mine gets quite quickly ) Yes , changing gaskets it's always a good idea but sometimes not enough . You should use a thin film of gasket sealant on both sides of the gasket ( from the equator to bottom ) to not make the mistake of over tightening the bolts to avoid leaks !

    • @ThePolishDad
      @ThePolishDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment and suggestions Joao! All great tips.
      Since we don't have it running yet, we have yet to determine how quickly the oil gets dark. Will definitely let you know when we get it running and starting riding it.
      Take care!

    • @ThePolishDad
      @ThePolishDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on how it's been ridden, I don't think you'd need to clean the filter at this time. Check the oil when you change it, if it looks clean, I wouldn't clean the filter now. If it looks dirty and has crud, probably a sign it should be cleaned.

      The service manual says the capacity is 3.2 US pints / 1.5 liters. We put in what we thought was about that much, then used the dipstick to add a little more until we got it in the good area.
