The story of Loverboy is akin to a Hollywood movie. Overcoming rejection to eventually become one of Canada's most successful rock bands of all time and selling millions of albums in the process, is a feel-good story for the ages.
For more than 40 years, Loverboy has been “Working For The Weekend” (and on the weekend), delighting audiences around the world since forming in 1979, when vocalist Mike Reno was introduced to guitar hot shot Paul Dean - both veterans of several bands on the Canadian scene - at Calgary’s Refinery Night Club. Along with Reno and Dean, Loverboy still includes original members Doug Johnson on keyboards and Matt Frenette on drums, with Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve replacing the late Scott Smith on bass.
With their trademark red leather pants, bandannas, big rock sound and high-energy live shows, Loverboy has sold more than 10 million albums, earning several multi-platinum awards. Their string of hits includes, in addition to the anthem “Working For The Weekend,” such arena rock staples as “The Kid Is Hot Tonight”, “Take Me To The Top”, “Turn Me Loose”, “Jump” and many more. In 2009, the group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and more recently the Canadian Walk of Fame, in the fall of 2023.
On June 7th, 2024, one of their most incredible live performances will be released for the very first time, in high definition. “Live In ‘82” has been lovingly restored by Paul Dean from his personal archive of 16mm film, the joyous energy of a band who helped define the golden era of 80's music captured like lightning in a bottle: Colourful clothing, outrageous hairstyles (and headbands!), terrific movies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Top Gun, and great music that has stood the test of time.

Great song
Loverboy was right there at the beginning of what was a great 80's rock scene! They were fun, and Mike Reno's vocals were STELLAR - they have resonated for years!
this is the song !! you turn to a good mood instantly ,, this is the 80s ,,, great time and music ,,
The most played on Friday song in the history of rock and roll.
I'd render ZZ Tops "Just got Paid," and The Cures, "Friday, I'm in Love."
However, "Take this Job & Shove It," by Johnny Paycheck rates as well.
Todd Rundgren, “Bang the Drum All Day”?
Man. Nostalgia. To go back to then.. Amazing time to be a teenager!
Two things: Mattie Frenette is one of the best drummers I ever saw, and they were one of the tightest bands on the planet back then. I saw them in '85 with The Hooters opening, it was awesome.
Yes, that' the way they used to do it!!!! The Golden era of rock!!
Golden age of rock was the 70s
@@brigsmith949Wrong, started in the 60’s
Saw them twice at casino rama, older but they still rock! 80s was the best!
My first rock concert. What fun memories.
I saw them live back in the 80s in Philly great band💯
Never be Music like the 80s
always on in my car in HS and college -- loverboy and the cars!!!! I saw them twice live in Cincinnati also!!
different camera angles on this video ., loving it xxxx Aahhh miss the 80s xx
Remember Streetheart and all those other Canadian bands. Good times.
Nothing like the early heavy metal 🎸. There were bands with music 🎶 similarities but was the sound, different kind of costumes. The energy, the vibes that they transmitted.
You could talk with friends about different bands and likes and different styles of playing until the next year, fight for it but still they were your friends.
At the end the music always wins, that’s the most important thing 🎸🎸🤟🤟
Thank you
Scott Smith was an awesome base player and this song demonstrates that.
Yep, very talented! RIP Scott 😢
Yassss!!!!!
The Vancouver Canucks jersey have changed so much since this video was made... lol! I was at this concert in Vancouver when I was 14. I can't believe my teenage heartthrob Scott died... RIP, handsome... Loverboy did a free concert a few years back in a little town called Aldergrove, BC and it was awesome! Mike can still belt out that one verse in Turn Me Loose...
Saw them opening up for Journey 81-82
I believe they also opened for Ratt around the same time.

Singing a great song while wearing an awful jersey! Peak 80’s!
