Changing the Whole House Water Filter 4K

In this video, I replace the A.O. Smith whole house water filter cartridge.
I used a 4.5" Universal Sediment Filter from Lowe's.
It is recommended to be changed every 6 months, but I am going to replace it every 2 months.

I just went under the house to change this filter and while taking the housing off the O ring fell to the ground. I was (sad to say, although in my defense I'm very tired :) having an issue getting the O ring back on because I wasn't sure how it went or if maybe it came of the white cap from underneath. Your video is the only one I found that showed exactly how it went. So, thank you sir for taking the time to show that part where others did not.

Eliminating light from hitting the filter will prevent some types of green slime from growing.

@@RandomlyAwkward1 perhaps instead of building a box around the filter, an easy solution would be to find an opaque replacement housing or even painting the current one. The disadvantage is that you can’t just look at it to check the filter. On the other hand, you may find that the filter needs to be replaced way less often. There won’t be growth of anything that requires sunlight to grow.

@@RandomlyAwkward1 My guess is it needs to be completely dark to prevent growth. Light reflecting off the wall and back in is still enough for life to grow.
Ironically, I'm here because my pressure reducing valve failed and exploded one of my clear casings. Water went everywhere before it was noticed. I've read that the clear ones are less durable so this time around I'm going with opaque. Sure, I'll have to unscrew to check the filter. But with shutoff valves on each side, it's a 2 minute job. Side bonus is anything that requires light, won't be able to grow.
