Can the sensor be changed with the boat in the water
Yes, the process takes just a few seconds and the hole where water flows through is small.
Omg thank you
@@skylark910 my pleasure!
What a relaxing video. The ocean life is calling my name
I'm looking at replacing my lower unit. Would you be able to provide me with a part number for the interchangeable lower units?
Hello, sorry for the delay in responding. I tried to find some part numbers for you, but didn't have much success. My engine is the 1992 Nissan NS 70B which is in fact different from the other series. I found my lower unit on eBay. I bought another that did not fit, but if you send me an email at randomlyawkward1@gmail.com and send a picture of yours, maybe we can get lucky and match it up. If it fits, you can have it...just pay for the shipping. If you are in the US, there is a great resource that I use in Grand Rapids, Michigan called Van's Sport Center. They specialize in outboard parts for all models including Nissan and Tohatsu. Their phone number is (616) 364-0666. Hope this helps!
Did the acid you used to clean the casing cause any damage to the bearings? 😮
No it did not
Good job
Thank you! It was worth the effort to us…
Very good vid thanks
Glad you enjoyed it… thank you.
Found it!
Can you guide me to your video with the impeller change? I cannot seem to find it. BTW - your voice is made for radio or TV!!!
This is FN great! I am having the alarm go off at the initial start-up. That is the only time it happens. And yes, like you it has gone into guardian mode a few times but then stops. Only happens at start up. Excited to try this out before I buy a new sensor. THANK YOU for showing me where it is at.
3 feet deep? Your 3 feet deep looks a lot different than my 3 feet deep. That looked more like my lazy 2 feet deep holes. 😂
It actually was 3 feet. Some of the dirt caved in from the sides when the hole filled with water. I got over enthusiastic with the tractor mounted auger! I had the same problem with a tractor mounted tiller. I just tilled everything in sight.
Super helpful video. Just add sulfur to my water softener 🤝🏾
Hopefully the NutraSul helped…
Thanks for the video-I have the 50hp and I’m trying to remove the drive shaft,I removed the nut and pinion gear, but the drive shaft will not come out,do I need to remove the base where the water pump sits on I order to remove the drive shaft, any advice is appreciated
Yes, there is another nut inside that has to come off. You may be able to find a video on lower unit disassembly that explains it a little more clearly.
Great video. I can only put in like $8 before gas spills out. The gas station pump nozzle not clicking. But I don't know why my gas tank is refusing to accept more fuel? I've checked all hoses and charcoal canister. Everything is intact. My gas gauge is always showing full. Can a bad gas pump and sending unit be the culprit?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Thanks… it sounds like a venting issue of some sort.
We bought this same boat brand new . Everything that could break did. They were shipping me parts for about two years . Final straw the blue hull paint turned a milky white and tinker wasmt going to fix it .
Oh no! We love ours…
This video didn't show anything bleah
The flywheel didn’t fly away. Success
Once I fixed everything, it was fine!
I have a 70 nissan that's not giving enough spark and I cannot get the flywheel off of it
I sprayed some PB Blaster on the stud after removing the nut and washer. I used steady pressure on the flywheel puller and gently tapped it all around until it finally popped off. It’s on there pretty good, but it will come off. I’m afraid I knocked the magnets off from hitting it too hard.
Looking good! Always nice to bring an old motor back to life. And that 600 should last a long time. Well done.
Thanks… can’t wait to get her back out on the sand bar!
Thanks for the video. Very well done. We bought a 24 year old Hunter 460 with 2 of these toiletes on it, using fresh water for flushing. One of them quit working and consultation with the Raritan rep at the Annapolis Boat Show indicated I needed a new water inlet control solenoid. Of course, I'm going to have to partly disassemble the unit to replace the solenoid and I found your video to be very helpful.
Thank you… oh no! The solenoid is hard to access if your toilet is “flush” mounted😂 Sometimes it will pop out of the back where it is seated in that rubber grommet. I may silicone mine in.
That was the easy part, lets see him doing underneath!!
No one sees underneath!
Just got a new to us 2005 Sea Ray with a Kohler 5E generator. Your video was helpful to me. Thank you.

Thank you… hope it was helpful!
Very good video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Buddy, I hate to reach out with an off the wall question, but you seem to know your stuff and to respond to comments. When you're reaching for the sensor in this video, there is a large purple and black connector just to the left of it. You actually touch it with the back of your hand at exactly the 2:10 mark in the video. Man, if you know and feel charitable, please tell me what that connector is and what the starboard side of the connections run to. My boat only has port side sitting on top of the engine, connected to nothing, and I've got all sorts of non responsive gauges right now. Thanks either way.
Hey! Thanks for reaching out...That purple plug is to connect the Mercury Vessel View Mobile sensor. That allows you to connect via Bluetooth to monitor engine performance, hours, RPM's, etc. I have the module tucked behind the starboard gunwale where that little recess is to hold the fenders. All of my wiring is back there. It also creates a WiFi network for your boat so you can impress your friends when it shows up on their iPhones out on the water! That's how you perform software updates if you need to. I also have a NMEA 2000 network set up to interconnect my Garmin MFD (1243 xsv), Radar, Sonar, Fuel flow monitor and stuff like that. It's a really neat way to monitor just about anything on the boat and engine. Of course, you have to buy the module and you have to buy the wiring harness, but if you get stuck, call Mercury tech support and tell them if you are having an issue hooking it up, and they will walk you through everything; at least that was my experience. I don't recall exactly what the wiring issue was, but I ended up NOT connecting something that I thought should be connected and it fixed the problem of not having connectivity. I have learned a bunch working on the boat because I can't afford a marine mechanic (unless I'm really stuck) or heaven forbid, taking it to a marina where it will sit for weeks and then they charge $200 an hour, at least here in SW Florida. I remember that there was a purple "Dummy" termination plug that I unplugged and then connected the new harness to. I bought everything on Amazon... Your MFD won't recognize anything unless you have that VesselView Mobile unit installed. Once connected, all sorts of interesting info self-populates onto your dash. I get water temp, fuel pressure, engine hours, anywhere there is a sensor connected to that engine, you get the data. Feel free to reach out with any other questions. If I can't answer them, I will point you in the right direction. Hope this helps! Happy Boating!
Great job! What kind of paint did you use on the rails ? Got mine torn down now replacing floor and carpet . Planning on painting fence and rails Thanks
Thank you for the nice comment. We used silver Rustoleum 2x Paint And Primer. The color is Metallic Aluminum and the SKU is #327907. We bought it at Walmart however, it does scratch off easily if you run into something. It’s easily touched up by hitting it with the spray, but if our rails were not so weathered, we probably would’ve left them as they were. Hope this helps!
Thanks for that pump rebuild tip. My generator blew that yellow coupling a while back. Hopefully my bearings are ok. I’ll need to pick those up at Amazon too.
No problem… I found a Sherwood pump rebuild kit on eBay from a guy that has everything you need. I’ll send you an email with his info…
Man, I don't know if Bravo is much different from Alpha 2, but I changed the gray and black hoses today, and it took me about 10 minutes. I did not need to pull any wire or cable. I just disconnected the two lines from the pump, went to the rear, laid on my back, disconnected the 4 ram lines, then removed the anode chunk and the two nuts retaining the block. Then pulled the block down, held it with a channel lock pliers, remove the two lines from the top side, and using my finger, held the black line up, while pulling the rear, gray line, down and out, then using my finger to support the front of the black line connector, pulled it down and out. Then I took the black, front line, stuck it into the hole, and using the "proctologist finger lift" , held the front end of the black connector up, and shoved the black line in, then did the same with the rear, gray line. Nothing to it. Inside, the lines were simply pulled over to the pump side. Total time out and in, 10 minutes, no weird coat hangers, now cables, no nothing. I did, however, cover both ends of both lines with black tape so nothing got into them going. Once positioned, I just attached a new block, applied thread lock sealant (Permatex hydraulic), then Permatex RTV to the gasket, both sides, set it gasket, set the new block, and nutted it up. Nothing to it, man.
Wow, I wish mine was that straightforward. Possibly because it is a Bravo 3, possibly the style of boat, but man what a pain mine was.. I’m glad your experience was “smooth and unremarkable” in proctologist terms!
I cannot tell you how informative these videos are. I have a Rinker boat with this exact same generator. Your prior video helped me change the fuel filter. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the nice comments! That was the whole purpose of making them; to help another person out when I couldn’t find the answers myself.
Great tutorial. I haven’t taken a water pump apart to that level. Good resolution.
Thanks. It’s interesting to see how they work. That bearing had a rough life!
A lot of times the screws heads snap.
I use self-tapping color matched aluminum screws and haven’t had any issue with them so far. I don’t use the zinc ones that are supplied with the drain.
I blew one of these lines (rookie mistake - didn't purge air when replacing an end cap).. Now once I realized it popped under the motor and saw fluid I was really upset thinking I would need to bring my boat to a mechanic for a motor to be lifted which means at LEAST one month of downtime.. Luckily I came across your video! Thank you for this!!!
Thanks for the feedback… it’s a pain to do but saves lots of downtime and possibly pulling the engine like you said. Glad you found it helpful!
@@RandomlyAwkward1 I also cut off the mercathode to make the installation easier. Do you see any difference - do you see more corrosion? I'm now thinking if I should put the mercathode back - I'm storing at a high and dry storage at my marina. But if there is no difference - I would not bother
You made too much work for yourself. I just removed mibe in 10 minutes using a Dremel tool to cut the base around the screws.
You’re probably right! I used the base to put the new toilet on so I wanted to save as much as possible for structural integrity.
This thing right here is built tough. I trust powerhorse for many reasons and one of them is durability. So don’t get a Westinghouse or Duromax they’re more complicated and will break something lol
Fantastic job. I need to do some of this work on mine.
Thanks! It was lots of fun… and sweat!
Thanks for posting. I have the same great boat and will be removing the head tomorrow. Replacing with a port a pottie andvremoved the waste tank.
Noooo! The Raritan is the way to go!
I would love for you to install one on mine. Please contact me. Thanks.
Hello, please visit our website at suncoastpatiodrains.com and I will get in touch with you. There is a contact form for you to put your phone number or email info in securely. Thanks!
Why is the fuel tank partially collapsing on my truck?
I’m not sure about that one. Maybe the fuel is condensing when it cools and there is a blocked vent to the tank to allow air in?
I'm definitely going to have that issue checked out. No check engine lights are on. I was able to dispense 5gals of fuel with no problems. Thanks
The tank vents through the fuel cap on my 2012 Ford 250 6.8L 2wd
You could still have a vent obstruction somewhere… good luck with the issue… let me know what you find out.
I like your style, 40 years of contracting, on the plus side, first thing I do is remove anything in the way of progress, like that door.
Thanks… not enough room in there to swing a cat. Gave thought to replacing it with a screen door….
Awesome video! I just bought a 24 year old trailer, and have do the same things you did in this and other videos. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the comment! Good luck and have fun!
Thank you so match. You're a life saver! Had the same problem.
You're welcome! Glad I could help…
Do the pressure switches come preset from the factory? Thanks for the thorough video.
Thank you for the comment. The switch is recalibrated when you purchase it, but if you need to change the pressure for whatever reason, there is a nut on top of the spring that you can adjust up or down to increase or decrease the pressure. After mine was installed, I increased the pressure about five psi because I have drip irrigation and I wanted to have a little bit more pressure in the line. You don’t want it too high though because you can damage your plumbing inside the house.
I have this same generator. And let me tell you, this is a MONSTER. Several people have asked me where did I find something that big and portable. I've had mine just under a year. Only had to use it once or twice for power outages from storms in the Louisiana area. It runs MY WHOLE HOME! No complaints from me. Well worth the money.
Glad to hear it! We are just getting into hurricane season in SW Florida so I hope we’re prepared.
How many hours did it run on a single tank before filling?
@qqqaaam I got about 10hrs without the A/C running.
@@qqqaaam I actually have not run a tank of gas through it yet, as I have not needed it. Hurricane season is fast approaching though…
Thank you both!
Epic job! What was the running issue in the end?
Thank you! Ultimately the cause of the boat going into guardian mode and shutting down to idle was a faulty water pressure sensor switch. It had a bunch of debris on it that gave a reading saying that there was no water pressure so the engine was returning to idle so it would not overheat. We actually had plenty of water flow. We are in the Gulf of Mexico so we have a lot of salt and very fine silt that seem to get trapped everywhere. Regular flushing out when we’re done is a big priority.
@@RandomlyAwkward1 awesome I’m glad it was a relatively simple fix. Top job on the refit.
Thanks… it was lots of work but very rewarding!
thanx.
Great advise I’m taking mine apart now’s did you pull the old lines out from bottom or the top thanks
Thank you… we pulled them from the top out through the engine hatch one at a time. Pulled new ones from top through the bottom of the outdrive, also individually with stiff wire.
I could not get my pressure switch to adjust while watching my pressure gage. Come to find out my gage was buggered and was reading 30psi high and was also not reading differential pressure correctly. Swapped out the gage and got everything dialed in
This is better than the video, with the guy that owns his own well business.
Thanks! Hope it was helpful.
Then it fills back up 5 min later cause u dumped it a foot away from the hole. Use a sump pump 🤪
I would have if I had one!
What was the cause of the boat not getting on plane and the engine going into guardian mode?
The ultimate cause was a restriction in a water pressure sensor switch. It was gummed up with salt and sand and corrosion and giving an incorrect reading to the computer on the engine. It indicated that we had no water flow when in fact, we had very good water flow. That fault told the engine to go into Guardian mode because it was going to overheat due to lack of water flow. Once we replaced the water pressure sensor switch, and we were assured that everything else was working correctly, we put her back in the water and it ran fine.
