1 of 1? I bought a rare 1969 Caprice with a 427 & a 4-speed! More rare than an SS 427.

    In 1969 my father ordered a new Chevy Kingswood Estate station wagon. Hidden headlights, woodgrain sides, roof rack, air, power windows, steering, brakes, air, 390 hp 427 with turbo 400. I took my test for driver license in that car. With 3.00 gears and serious weight it wasn't too impressive off the line, but at a 30 mph roll matting the gas pedal, it would downshift to low, the front would come up like a motorboat, and it would haul serious ass!

    This car has the 335/427, which was the same as a 396/325 only bigger cubes. The 390/427 would have been the largest HP 427 available with AC. What a car!! Luckily there are enough rust-free parts cars in the South that it can be brought back (frame is pretty bad), but with all the documentation, it would be a very desirable car....Rust free cars in the South were the only way I was able to restore a '68 GTX Ohio car that was a rust bucket. My father-in-law had a 68 SS 427 with the Caprice roofline. A lighter blue with black roof. When I was younger, before he was my father-in-law, I remember this car going around town (very small town). He used to use it as a police car (he was part of a volunteer sheriff’s group which everyone called ‘The Posse’).
      As a young adult, now married to one of his daughters, I sought the car out. He had long ago sold it. It was in a farmers field a few miles outside of town. My last memory of that car was seeing the SS 427 badge on the right rear trunk, sitting in the high grass. I wish now I could have recovered it.

    What a knockout find. Incredible car in every respect imaginable. Whenever I see a car like this with window sticker filled all the way up with options, I always wonder if it could have been a dealer demonstrator. As cheap as the concealed headlights were, it's surprising that so few people ordered them

    • @DezzysSpeedShop
      @DezzysSpeedShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is, most people bought the Impala and you couldn’t get hideaways with those. You definitely didn’t order your luxury car with a four-speed, extra cost heavy duty suspension, 3.31 posi, power windows, air-conditioning, etc..

    • @urbanurchin5930
      @urbanurchin5930 ปีที่แล้ว

      @mr,goodpliers6988.....Tim, do you think that the reason why so few concealed headlights were ordered - was the fact that they tended to have a lot of
      functionality issues ?? I don't know about GM vehicles - but I seem to remember that the Fords / Mercurys' had a lot of problems.......

    Wow! I had a similar 68 from Texas (heater/radio delete, vinyl top) purchased from an insurance co after it was heavily rear ended. Waited until I found a totaled car front end damage same color, clipped and cut/welded across floor etc. Only had to paint floor, rockers and A pillar under the vinyl top. After some usage getting under carrage dirty, unable to tell if cut in half. Brand new "LENCO" spot welder was a great help. The ultimate sleeper except for the 15 inch slotted wheel and the 427 emblem. Wish I had it back.

I remember a 69 Kingswood Estate ( Caprice trim) wagon 427 - 4 speed that sat in the showroom of Taylor Chevrolet in Rochester NY for years. Incredible find, so glad you got it. I hate it when people have a rare car and do not restore it nor do they sell it because "they're going to fix it up one day"
    My dads cousin had a 68 Camaro SS Convertible 4/speed 350 he bought to restore and it sat in his front yard deteriorating for years. My dad begged him every year to sell it to him and he always said he was going to fix it up until one day the convertible was gone and my dad found out he sold it to someone else in another state. My dad found out the reason he didn't sell it to him was he finally figured out he wasn't going to ever fix it up and didn't want my dad to get it and fix it because it would have 'shamed him'. My dad was pissed at him until he passed.

Prices were Crazy when You look back in time -- when I was 6 years old I went with Mom and Dad to the Lincoln Mercury dealer one night and we drove home in a Brand New Bright Red 71 Comet GT with a 3 speed on the floor -- Loved that car and they gave it to me when I was 18! I Ran the Hell out of that thing and had a Blast every time I drove it😊 Unfortunately about 12 years later I sold it and regretted it ever since. And where I later worked as Electrician -- it's closed now but I moved to Detroit and Now Kentucky and still Electrician with Ford. I have a 66 Ford 427 side oiler on the engine stand for it with a three two barrel Ford intake and carbs too😜I even have a set of the one year only pyrex glass headlight covers that came on the 65 Galaxie 427 cars !
