I once wrote this pitch for an X-Men reboot where it was directed by Brad Bird and featured Jubilee & Kitty Pryde as co-leads. The main team consisted of characters who never got the attention they deserved in the original X-Men films like Nightcrawler, Gambit, Psylocke, Storm, Warpath, and Havok, they were all mentored by the original five X-Men as a way of passing the torch between the old and new movies, and the main villain was to be Mister Sinister.
A best friend and I did our own, where after the Cold War, America is looking for a new superweapon to beat Russia in the arms race - after super soldiers failed to stop HYDRA from infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. A rogue scientist and his group of researchers discover the advent of mutants and decide to use them to siphon their powers to create new tech and weapons. Stryker and Cameron Hodge now develop resources to get rid of political and business competitors who don't want this war to happen and they try to have public figures in their way assassinated. The scientist suggests to use a mutant they captured as their fall guy. The OG X-Men are informed by Fury to Xavier about the threat and someone framed them with trying to assassinate those same high officials in the public eye. Now they must clear their name or risk being outed as mutants to find out how this happened.
You had me at Brad Bird. Seriously, why hasn't Marvel considered hiring that guy? He not only gave us the Incredibles, but also can do live action spectacle like in Mission Impossible and Tomorrowland.
"and because this movie is such a high priority, I just can't see Disney not going with proven talent." You would think so, but remember that they gave Spider-Man, they're most popular character, to Jon Watts. Loved the video! I always appreciate how much energy and research you put into these suggestions. Personally, I would love to see Vaughn return to the X-Men, as I think First Class came the closest to portraying the X-Men as a team and not just a background for a main character.
Id LOVE that, though I'm more familiar/prefer their animated project's than their live action projects so what are some of their better live action movies to get a better sense.
An outside the box choice, but Rob McIlhenney would be an interesting choice as a director. He knows how to write crazy characters & direct ensemble casts. Plus, that means there’s always a chance that Glenn Howerton would play an older version of Cyclops.

If being a creep of their podcast has taught me anything, it’s that the three of them make a great writing team. Give Charlie the characters that are just so awkward and different, give Glenn the kids that are teetering on joining Magneto due to bad encounters with muggles, and Rob the straight characters that need to be unpolished and made fun and exciting to watch.
I'm surprised that Brad Bird isn't on this list, considering how he managed to be great at both animation and live-action. I think he can be able to create the X-Men, but have them utilizing their powers very interestingly.

Daley & Goldstein would be a very MCU choice since their style of writing and directing is very much akin to the best MCU movies outside of Infinity War/Endgame, but I think the X-Men needs to be a big change for the MCU. The MCU needs to do something new and I think they could do that by making the X-Men a top-tier action-adventure franchise with Christopher McQuarrie. The dude took an old franchise in Mission Impossible that would have died were it not for Tom Cruise hyping it and turned into one of, if not THE best action-adventure franchises of all time. They sprinkle in humor in Mission Impossible movies, but the MCU tries to break every bit of tension with humor, like Chandler Bing became a movie franchise.
I did not know that Daley and Goldstein were rebooting MASK. That is fantastic news. It's a property that is prime for a modern day reboot if done well.
The second guy also has all these diverse movies and can really speak to the experience of being a marginalized person. All his previous projects show how capable he is of connecting with the underdog, the actual underdog, and the entitled dog.
DeCosta makes a lot of sense based on the strengths and arguments you made. Hopefully she gets it. If Matthew Vaughn directs The Authority movie, that sounds great. In fact, I would love to see all the directors you mentioned like Jordan Peele, Matthew Vaughn, Edgar Wright, and Daley/Goldstein work on a DCU project. For example, I would love to see Daley/Goldstein take on a Teen Titans film and The Duffer Bros helm a Justice League Dark if they leave Netflix.
I really like the pitches for Daley/Goldstein and DaCosta. Lots of great potential for both. I also agree with your assessment of Vaughan. First Class was my favorite of the main Fox X-Men movies, but he probably wouldn't want to come back to Marvel right now. Plus, I would rather get someone new for X-Men, and I think he would be a great pick for the Authority movie.
I wholly respect Nando’s opinion because he’s clearly a fan and is super knowledgeable about the comics. However, I have never understood the hatred people have for X-Men: Apocalypse. That was personally one of my favorite theater experiences I’ve ever had and I thought it was super fun and utilized my experience as a fan of the X-Men series. Granted, there are flaws I understand (there’s a lot going on, the young characters don’t get as much time as they deserve, Apocalypse isn’t huge, etc) but those don’t detract from it for me personally.
I'm not gonna pretend it was the worst superhero movie ever. It certainly wasn't. However, I feel like it just did not mesh with how I see the X-Men and especially Apocalypse. In my mind, Apocalypse should be a Thanos level character, both in physical size and in narrative weight. I think he was miscast and poorly interpreted. That said, if a person either was unfamiliar with comics Apocalypse or was less precious about it, like my dad is, I could totally see someone find enjoyment where I struggle. I certainly didn't hate this movie, and I'm glad people were able to enjoy it more than I was
I was excited to see Nia DaCosta directing and co-writing The Marvels. Then I went on to read about the production details of the film, and apparently, The Marvels has gone under heavy re-shoot and "massive overhaul". So, I fear that Marvel Studio has ruined both DaCosta's original creative work and the movie itself. So, if the movie turns out disappointing, I wouldn't blame DaCosta, the blood will be on the studio's hands.
Or maybe she's not a great director and they're salvaging it as best they can? We'll never know. Normally I'd be like, studio interference? = bad. But it's the MCU... so I feel like maybe sometimes it's for the best? Maybe? Hard to know for sure.
@@Paradox-es3bl There hasn't been any MCU post-production reshoot that improved the movie. All the reshoots have been done to fit the movies in the conveyor belt of nonstop factory-made content supply.
If Jordan Peele ever directs a marvel film it will be a Dr Strange because Dr Strange is where the interesting horror directors go to make something that isn't really an interesting horror film but will be marketed as such for a while
I neither have a big interest in comic books or directors, but when i think about X-men i think about prosecution, injustice and somewhat silly fun and I dont know why but the first name that came into my mind when thinking about that was Matrix...Lana Wachowski or both. Sense 8 season one was really fun and showed that she/they can do thrilling political stories without them getting to exhausting and serious. We know that they can do action and interesting way of showing powers and they have some history when it comes to working with marvel so I just gonna asume that they have some fimiliarity with the genre/source material.
With your take on Nia DaCosta I’m very much hoping she will take the job because Cyclops is literally my favorite X-men character (Storm is 2/3 wth Iceman) and I have always been hurt by the way he’s been so neglected in the movies. In the new movies I NEED to see Cyclops shine!😂
I’d personally want to see Shawn Levy take on X-Men. If he could recapture the same wonder and creativity he had for the first two Night at the Museum films, then we would have a masterpiece on our hands. But I feel like Disney is gonna wait to see how DP3 does before they hook him to a franchise. If not him, then I’ll gladly write and direct a X-Men film.
If it was me, & we are still expecting the MCU to be around long term I'd do it this way. Initially a Disney plus show focused on the School and young versions of the original team, possibly set pre blip. The X-men never got involved with Thanos because they were still untrained Kids. Characters like Storm & Wolverine would debut in other movies. It would be a joy to see Logan start out in Alpha Flight (or maybe we just get to keep Hughe). The original team gets Krakoa'd & post credit scene's are Xavier wandering around like in 1st class picking up Nightcrawler, Collossus and the like. Finaly Boom! the big Avengers level team up event.
We see that Authority book behind you! How long till we get the Nando take on those books, and your predictions on what the Gunn vision of them might look like/ought to look like
Hey Nando, big fan! I don't quite understand your point at 7:42 where you say "Maybe it's easier than you'd expect" than talk about how the director of Nomadland directed amazing super speed, I think if anything it shows how a skills director is able to present and convey these powers in great and creative ways. Just seemed like the way you put it belittled the skill that goes behind making these types of things well and artistically. But I could have misunderstood, just wanted to share this thought. Thanks for your great work!
ooooh man... my personal favourites are the guys who did the DnD movie.... pleeease pleeease get them. That makes a solid argument why they SHOULD really do it....that would be amazing! :)
Your case for Decosta has won me over. I was feeling blah about The Marvels because of how much BS circles around Brie Larson. (I don’t blame Larson...i just hate the BS any time her name comes up) But now im excited to see it.
If I could throw another name into the mix, I feel like Tony Gilroy would also be a solid candidate. He already has experience working within a massive franchise and balancing out an ensemble cast in "Andor"; plus how well he handled the politics in Andor can easily carry over into X-Men.

7:59 I had a choking fit with laughter for that line, thank you very much
I did not know that Daley and Goldstein were rebooting MASK. That is fantastic news. It's a property that is prime for a modern day reboot if done well.
The second guy also has all these diverse movies and can really speak to the experience of being a marginalized person. All his previous projects show how capable he is of connecting with the underdog, the actual underdog, and the entitled dog.
Edgar Wright directed and written by the Duffer Bros… it could be truly magical
They would want to do both write and direct.
6:14 You had me at Legion. Whatever it takes, get Noah Hawley for Xmen. 'Nuff said.
25:23 Every part of this sentence is absolutely true, including the part about Kitty Pryde
I'm shocked Gina Prince-Blythewood isn't on this list after her amazing work on The Old Guard. Best super power action movie in decades.
Old guard was dope
I certainly didn't hate this movie, and I'm glad people were able to enjoy it more than I was
X-men apocalypse was a mixed bag but I've grown to like that movie over time
I want a real X-men film. Not just a Wolverine film with co-starrring the X-men.
Someone who knows how to put a dark feeling but not a pessimistic impact
Phill Lord and Chris Miller should make the Xmen movie.
Or Brad Bird.
Honestly Matthew Vaughn should be given the X-Men trilogy he’s wanted to make.
I love the line about, "Isn't the internet for pretending that my opinions matter?"
i'm so glad i didn't click away from the coffee promo
25:35 made me laugh so hard when the quantumania theme started playing
i love these options can't wait for more videos like this!
Love the Edgar Wright love
Quantumania is a great movie, and that's the hill I'll die on.
You should do a pitch on how you want the first x-men movie to go
I want a director who treats the franchise with respect and doesn't make it a joke like they're doing with a lot of Marvel movies.
No one marvel movie is same
If Jordan Peele ever directs a marvel film it will be a Dr Strange because Dr Strange is where the interesting horror directors go to make something that isn't really an interesting horror film but will be marketed as such for a while
They need to reboot first, and hand it over to Universal
Can't help but think nando saying days of future past was just "fine" is because of bryan singer.
Seperate the art from the artist.
Yeah I agree because to me X-Men days of future past is the vest of the fox x-men movies
I thought it was just fine as well.
X-men Savage land, yes please. The D & D movie was surprisingly entertaining. I expect the Marvels to land about as well as The Flash.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller!!
what would you do for the new mutants, if you were to recast them from their film?
8:00 - I WAS HOWLING!!! HAHAHA!!
James Gunn
The correct answer is James Gunn
Why? For Cyclops to tell goofy jokes all day
@@marvinj1000 where'd you get that impression?
@@Irish_Enderman all the movies he directed
@@marvinj1000 have you seen Guardians of the Galaxy 3?
Rocket's backstory is depressing
@@Irish_Endermanbecause it's depressing in the comics
I think Doug Liman as director and Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley as screenplay writers would be amazing.
Kids in the Hall did 'these are the Dave's I know' skit back in the day. Maybe the Daniel's should model it after that? Lol
At least 1 project/movie in-between First Class and Days of Future Past would've been awesome
Lord & Miller
fantastic four
If they decide to lead off with a show rather than a movie, I’d LOVE to see Sean Murphy.
Any of the Harry Potter directors could be cool
7:48 big budget superspeed there’s a lot of great tv speedsters
We see that Authority book behind you! How long till we get the Nando take on those books, and your predictions on what the Gunn vision of them might look like/ought to look like
If marvel had any stones they’d let the Wachowskis direct it
Hey Nando, big fan!
Fantastic video Nando
