Always liked how this duel made Crowler a lot more respectable, especially with the “if you want my students you’ll have to get through me”
i like him because Ancient gears
He really grew on me as the series went on. I wanted to strangle him the first few episodes but they are HIS dropout boys and nobody else gets to torment them i guess.

The original yugioh had demons, spirits, and gods so why wouldn't there be vampires? Also Aliens are cannonical to yugioh and I'm actually a little disappointed they haven't done more supernatural stuff.
@@The_Sentai_System haven’t done more supernatural stuff?!? 5ds has eldridge horrors in the earth bound immortals, the card spirit realm, revenants (the dark signers), the crimson dragon who created the 5ds dragons, psychics, and a card demon. Zexal had haunted dolls, extra plainer beings and the numbers. Arc 5 had zarc, multiple worlds theory and a literal spirit medium.
I love how Jaden never has Unknown cards in his hand, because his plays burn through so much card advantage that they can't afford it

Crowler was the absolute GOAT of the duel. After initially being portrayed as one of those asshole, elitist school teachers, he shows a side which I’m glad carried out the rest of the series in which despite his prejudice against Slifer Reds, he genuinely cares for his student’s as any teacher would and his final speech to them in both the sub and dub is admittedly quite touching.
Except the final season wasn't dubbed
@@Limegreenedragon Except that based on context, it’s pretty obvious the original comment was talking about Crowler’s speech at the end of his duel against Camula. It is in season 1 and IS dubbed. “My students, no matter what happens to me, always remember this. It’s true I may have been hard on you at times, but it’s simply because I believe in you. Therefore, if I fall here, there’s still hope. Because I know you all will rise.”
@@Limegreenedragon Even so, the dude's right. I've seen the final duel with him and Jaden. Kronos(Or Crowler) however REALLY doesn't like wanting to make the students pass because he will miss this batch of students as they had went through so much.
Yeah like when Chazz's friend Bullied Syrus he as a teacher laughed along instead of calling the bully out, yes this duel did show that he will protect all his students no matter their rank
The mysterious 2 cards against Zane are briefly revealed for only a few frames, but you can see them. It's a Despair from the Dark and a Vampire Bat. They're shown very quickly when she summons back Cyber End Dragon.
So not exactly that would’ve changed the outcome too much

Idk if anyone noticed this but Zane couldn't have used call of the haunted on Cyber Barrier Dragon because it's effect states "it cannot be special summoned except" meaning, Zane's only option in his grave he could use call of the haunted with would be his Cyber Dragon
I think it's pretty clear that Zane would have been able to pull a win had he summoned his Barrier Dragon. He was the top student, even more so than Jaden, and was confident he could do something in one or two turns.
Yeah, his inner monologue about CotH made it clear he had a plan in mind, but knew pulling it off wouldn't be worth it. He'd never sacrifice his brother for anything. Big Kaiba vibes.

If he could get any of his Cyber Dragons or even just something like Proto Cyber Dragon he could go Chimeratech Fortress Dragon and use Camula's Cyber End Dragon as material since it can use Machine monsters from BOTH sides of the field. But ofc if Zane had that card by that stage of the anime, i think he only used it a lot later when he went dark.
@@IAmTh3Doom Chimeratech Fortress Dragon in the anime has a different effect and summoning condition, and it can't be summoned by just sending the materials from the fields, it needs polymerization or a fusion card
@@supernicedude2972 Yup, 100%, and if he was going to throw the dual anyway to protect Syrus, then there wasn't any reason to keep going, lest he somehow lose control and/or focus and win, losing Syrus forever.
I'd like to jokingly believe that Camula was unable to gather enough cards to make a 40 card deck, so she just made two copies of cards to get her incomplete deck of 38 to 40.
Because the cards were illegal copies, it's possible they were slightly different in size (like Arkana did with his Dark Magician vs Atem). But because she only recently made them, she didn't learn how to prevent herself from drawing them, so she kept having them stick to her Vampire Werewolf card, whenever she drew her opening hand.
Since her duel disk would NOT register the two fake cards if played, she had to always keep them in her hand. This whole story is why Camula ALWAYS had two cards from the start that she never played.
I know you're joking but I mean in the Yu Gi Oh world, it wouldn't be hard to get 2 more Zombie monsters to fill out the quota. Maybe the good ones would cost thousands of dollars per copy, but she doesn't need the best. KaibaCorp's Duel Disks do acknowledge counterfeit cards, at least if they are good enough fakes. Marik was able to get into Battle City with many counterfeit cards. Seto Kaiba however realized he could get his hand on the Egyptian God, so he let that development continue. The only reason they knew they were counterfeit was not the duel disk, but that the disks gave the tournament controllers all information of everything going around the players so they could physically see the cards and notice something that the disks themselves couldn't detect.

Anytime there’s a card that’s never seen, played, or sent to the GY or BZ, I always assume it’s Pot of Generosity.
I'd love to see a Kaiba vs Zigfried breakdown. That duel was probably Kaiba at his best. You can fit Joey vs Zigfried in there too if you can and want, but it's the Kaiba duel I want.
Joey definitely could've won at one point, but Graceful Dice didn't roll high enough. The weird part is how the episode barely talks about it.
@@cheyguy1211 Joey relies on luck so much, it's only a matter of time until he gets some bad rolls. And that was far from his only bad luck in that episode. Dude started the duel with a brick hand, and it wasn't even his first brick in the series.

Kaiba vs Zigfried is one of the most badass Kaiba moments in all of Yugioh. Him saying that he'll play 4 magic cards when he's only got 1 card in his hand, followed by the batshit crazy turn he has is just pure awesome!

Camula was by far the most credible and interesting shadow rider. I wish we got a longer arc for her. I love these episodes and they are very fitting for spooky season. Cheers Sam.
Personally I think Camula shouldn't have stayed around, since she already eliminated 2 of our Heroes including Zane, but I do wish the other Riders lived up to the standard she set.

@@justinbryan6249 I actually skipped the nightshroud duel because at the time, my disc isn't liking the fact that the episode isn't loading properly. I didn't even knew nightshroud was a thing until season 2 of Yu-Gi-Oh.
camula and amnael are the strongest shadow riders, and tanya basically just gave bastion a b*ner (wouldn't want the channel punished bc i said a naughty word in a comment). none of the other 5 could even win one during this arc (counting kagemaru).
@@jackferring6790 Exactly, particularly the one that everyone just let win. Let Camula beat Crowler first, as he stands up for his students then poof away, they fight other shadow riders, she comes back and gets challenged by Zane, showing Illusion Gate and only winning because of it, leading to everyone losing some hope, maybe a dark shadow rider yet, leading to Jaden adding in Shining Flare Wingman to brighten things up a bit!
Question about Jaden's first turn against Camula:
Why didn't he normal summoned Bubbleman before using it to summon Tempest? That way, he would've got 2 more cards, which may've ended the duel much earlier. Not that it matters, since Jaden wins, but still.
Im pretty sure to get bubbleman's effect he needs to have no cards on field AND in hand
@@icchiM anime effect requires you just to control no cards on the field and it's text says it and they weren't fully released those cards yet because as you can see in jaden's hand his heroes have different artwork
Misplay, and also because he is rushing as explained. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the anime also has a bad habit of always using fusions either entirely from the hand or from the field, and not both.
Padding and to make it feel more dramatic. It's like when Jaden dueled Sartorious (season 2) and could've won pretty early with Shining Flare Wingman who had 3700 atk, as well as having a Bubbleman on the field. If he sac'd Bubbleman, he could've gave Shining 300 more atk and got exact game in that moment.
if jaden have summoned bubbleman in the first turn , he would have drawn pot of greed, which he could activate to draw two more cards.
I would like to know if there is any canonical battles where Zane didn’t open up with 2 or more cyber dragons in his starting hand. His opening hands are god tier every duel

I love how zane scolded syrus for using power bond while the opponent had a face down, and yet everytime he uses it during the series except for the first time, the rival had a face down
think it's because he always had a back up plan or a way out of the negatives of power bond. like de-fusion in this case
In fairness to this duel, at least, he had De-Fusion if he needed it. I can't say for the other duels off the top of my head.
Zane is so good with power bond that he can take the risk of using it, he had de fusion. If Syrus where the one using it he would take full dmg

For the Red Ghost Moon ruling, it’s important to note that this was before Konami printed more consistent text on cards. At this time, Cards that targeted were printed without mentioning anything about Targeting or Selecting. (For example: Batteryman Industrial Strength doesn’t say so, but it does target a monster and a Spell/Trap and that was printed after this episode) At this time, the general consensus was “if it feels like it targets, it does” and considering Bastion says it’s target left the field, that implies it is supposed to target. In this case, Zane just miss played hard, or was unsure of the ruling as well.
Yeah I feel like Zane should have won. Like either she ends the BP and gains LP regardless of whether Cyber End leaves the field, or she loses her target and the effect resolves to nothing and Zane can attack, but this mix match of the 2 feels weird lol. Oh well, as you said wording was inconsistent

Assuming the trap does target, Zane didn’t misplay. He avoided Camula gaining 8000 and also prevented his Power Bond burn. There was nothing better he could have done here.
@@sundad Although, if the trap does fizzle completely (meaning if the life point gain fails, so does the Battle Phase ending), he did misplay by not attacking with his three Cyber Dragons. Probably wouldn't have helped in the end, but still a potential misplay depending on the ruling of the effect. And of course, that's depending on how the trap's wording would be based on current card text standards, since the effect could be written in a way that allows the Battle Phase to end regardless of whether the life gain succeeded or not.
It's really impressive how Camula is reaching through the show to steal TGS's soul by not revealing all of her cards.
I love these GX duels where they open every piece of a Fusion monster AND the proper Fusion spell.

Reminds me of Yugi’s duel with Dartz. Where his opening hand has Blackluster Soldier, it's ritual spell, and the material to tribute for it with Valkyrion. If it weren't for magic Yugi would brick every duel.
Camula during these duels especially with Zane remind of the duels with marik where it isn’t necessarily there better in fact they pretty easily got outplayed but than through bs magicial powers won
Can't have anyone but the protagonist take down the major threats, otherwise your show would become less predictable. Marik and Camula are prime examples for that trope.

BS magic powers and being carried by an overpowered card. Illusion Gate for Camula which is a Raigeki and Monster Reborn in one, while Marik's Winged Dragon of Ra gained a new "hidden" ability every time it was played.

I feel Zane wasted Power Bond in his first move imagine this: he should have Cyber Dragon instead, now we couldn't know what card Camula has on her field but it was too soon for Zane summon Cyber End Dragon on the field.
Since the Camula's face down card was Red Moon she could have won 2100 life points which totals 6100 life points, since Zane has Attack Reflector Unit he could have used to block Camula's attacks.
Zane could have won with Cyber Twin Dragon summoned by Power Bond since it can attack twice and its attack will be 5600 ATK, also that monster original attack points is 2800 which is okay since Power Bond other effect means Zane loses life points equal to summoned monster attack points so he could survived that turn he used Power Bond.

What's that you ask? Well, it's bubleman, specifically his anime effect, which upon normal summon when there are no other cards in his field, he applies the pot of greed effect of drawing 2 cards, so he could summon bubleman, draw 2, then go into tempest, why didn't he do this?

Absolutely fantastic video. I love how it seemed like Zane was going to casually sacrifice his brother but that farewell was so sweet. You should do Little Yugi vs Bakura. Definitely one of my favorite duels in the series and we got to see Gandora for the first time!
*Gandora The Dragon of Destruction* was an incredible card design and showed the resolve in Yugi Muto to help Atem finally defeat Zorc/Yami Bakura.

@@RB01.10 She was going to (and sink to a new low) by using all of Jaden's friends, but Jaden's shadow charm that he received the second half from Atticus cancelled out Camula's and so she had no choice but to use her own soul.
Seriously, Jaden's battle against Camula was one of the coolest duels I have ever watched. Nice touch doing this close to Halloween!
Jaden/Judai has cards that are just too situational to even add to his Deck, yet it will always work out. He's either a genius or the writers are lol.

I've recently dove into 5D's and I would love to see a battle report on one of the 3v3 baton style race duels... Probably be a huge amount of work but the match vs Team Unicorn seemed very interesting, could Jack or Aki have done better? Was it legal for Yusei to hand Aki a card and tweak her deck mid tournament? Could either side have set up/passed on a better board state? Etc
Not only are they very interesting duels, both deck wise, strategy wise and the fact it's done like baton/relay teams, but you can also leave/pass cards along to your next teammate which is wild/opens so many possibilities!
I'd love to see them too. Team Unicorn or Team Ragnarok would be my choices.
I think that was also the duel where all Yusei's opponent had to do was end his turn and Yusei would have lost by decking out.

@@silverwolf9396 It's also the duel where, had Jack gone in for a duel runner check-up, he wouldn't have crashed and Team Unicorn wouldn't have maxed out their speed counters, which might have changed things up with their second duelist.
With Team Ragnarock. If Halldor didn't attack Yusei at the end and just ended his turn. He could have won.
Also errors. Majestic Star Dragon should have returned to Yusei extra deck during Halldor's end phase. It's NOT during Yusei's end phase only, where it bounces back to the extra deck.
What Crowler should have done was use Ancient Gear Beast to attack Vampire Bat instead of Zombie Werewolf. Camula would discard another copy to save it but get reduced to 2300 Life Points. Then when she used Infernalvania, the Zombie Werewolf would be destroyed and she would have to discard her last copy to save Vampire Bat. Then when Ancient Gear Golem attacked Vampire Bat, it would be destroyed and Camula would get reduced to 300 Life Points. Meaning that Vampire Genesis would only tie with Golem unless she decided to suicide it into the Golem, then if she attacked him with Zombie Werewolf, he would have 500 Life Points left. So if she wasn't able to bring back Vampire Bat with Genesis' effect, he would survive for another turn and possibly turn it around.
Jaden should have summoned Bubbleman first to draw two cards. He would have drawn everything he needed to summon Shining Flare Wingman one turn early and win quicker.

Cant believe jaden misplayed literally turn 1 if we assume bubbleman has his anime effect instead of tcg effect. No reason not to summon it to draw 2 free cards and then fuse to tempest. Love these duel analysis vids! Cant wait for next one :)
Bubbleman is one of the few cards in the GX era that didn't get its effect updated to its official release version, probably due to its draw 2 effect being being an easy crutch for the writers if they need to give Jaden more cards to qork with

Now for all of the traps, the best move is to just set them, not likely. Most of the monsters would be just summon or better yet special summon based on their abilities, but as a Gemini monster, Ancient Gear Knight would not be used unless he can immediately Gemini Summon it as she has a face down, and as a 1500 LV 5 monster “Ancient Gear Engineer” would a bit week in most scenarios, so they are candidates. As for the Spells, “Ancient Gear Drill” would be used ASAP to flush out “Limiter Removal”, meaning when Camula attacked with “Vampire Genesis”, he would have just activated it and won the duel, so no. And the same goes for “Confiscation”, “Ancient Gear Tank” and “Ancient Gear Fist”. “Ancient Gear Workshop” may be a possibility but I think it would have been unlikely. So leaves just “Ancient Gear Factory: as you need to have a lot of monsters in the GY to use it. So the most likely cards are “Ancient Gear Factory, “Polymerization,” and “Ancient Gear Knight”.

Now to make room for "VP Bat" 3x and "Zombie Werewolf" 3x, we can safely assume that "Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower", "Master Kyonshee", "Double Coston" and "Regenerating Mummy" 2x are not in Camula’s deck as the don’t fit her style. Now I would give a 75% chance the “VP Baby” was in it as you would have a full fam or 2 "Red Moon" cards and she need more monsters so I would take out the “Reload”s for it and the “Rope of Life”s as you need to the baby “grow up” a little to use it right. But she still needs two more monsters a at least one equipment spell for “VP Baby, so I would take out but that means equipment spells as well so I would take the following

Now for what the 2 mysterious cards are, we can use this list to narrow down what the might be. For the Traps, “Mystical Space Typhoon”, “Terraforming”, “Fusion Sage”, “Call of the Mummy”, and “Horn of the Unicorn”, you put them in play ASAP, as Traps need to be set so you can use them, Call of the Mummy is needed to get out your high level monsters quickly, Terraforming and Fusion Sage thins your deck out faster, Horn of the Unicorn is just a good equipment spell card, and a “Mystical Space Typhoon on the land is worth 2 in the hand; so not likely. Pyramid Turtle is a type-floater, and you almost always put floaters in to play automatically, so also not likely. The would have been used for “Vampire Genesis”’s affect. And “Spirit Reaper” has one of the most valuable effects of all monsters, so valuable many duelist will use their precious normal summon/set on it, battle immunity, so no. "Creature Swap" is also out as it powerful and works best when you have a floater on your side of the field like "Zombie Werewolf".
So this leaves “Vampire Baby”, “Dark Dust Spirit”, “Nightmare Horse”, “The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion”, “Nobleman of Crossout”, and “Polymerization”.
All of the are possible although not necessarily to say all at once. For one “Dark Dust Spirit” could not have been the option in Jaden as she would have sacrificed her “Zombie Werewolf” to summon it, which would destroy "Elemental Hero Tempest" by "Dark Dust Spirit"'s effect, “Giant Trunade” the field and gone for game. But in Crowler and Zane it may be a possibility as she did have superior plays in those duels. And she would not have ditched it for “Vampire Genesis” as “Dark Dust Spirit” is a Spirit monster and can’t be special summoned.
Also, “VP Baby” only works if you have the mean to power it up. So unless she had “Horn of the Unicorn” and/or “Rope of Life” in her hand, she would not use it, and those are one of the ones that you use automatically . So one more option for the no mysterious cards.
Also “Nobleman of Crossout” would be a brick as none of the opponents at any monsters.
And finally “Nightmare Horse”, “The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion”, and “Polymerization” are also contenders, as they are only used for getting out “Reaper on the Nightmare” and that needs Spirit Reaper on the field or 3 cards and we only have 2.
So those are my answers.
The thing is even knowing what decks they have doesn't really tell us what those mysterious cards are. So even knowing Camula's deck we don't know what those two mysterious cards are. Heck, they might even be Pyramid Turtle since duelists in both the anime and in real life have failed to play floaters before. One guy who was in the top 8 of one of the Europe tournaments in 2011 actually failed to play floaters in 3 of his matches and it cost him one duel. That said his later loss to Michel Grüner had nothing to do with it, Michel was just that good. But the fact that he was good enough to get into the tournament and sometimes just left floaters in his hand when admitting in hindsight he shouldn't have means that we can't dismiss Camula leaving floaters in her hand.

For the next DM duel, I recommend Was Noah about to beat Yugi/Kaiba? There was a moment where Noah could have beaten Yugi, it was the turn where he used Otohime’s effect to switch Kuriboh to attack position. Big Shield Gardna was on the field at the time which has ATK100 less than Kuriboh. If Noah changed Big Shield Gardna to attack position and destroyed it with Yamata Dragon, Yugi would’ve taken an additional 200 damage so by the penultimate turn of the duel where the two are 10000 vs 100, Yugi would’ve lost.

Towards the end he also could have one. Had he taken control of Magician of Black Chaos with Change of Heart instead of Dark Magician, using it for tribute instead. Then when he summoned his monster (don't know how to spell his name) after raising it's attack to 3300 and attacking Yugi’s Dark Magician instead. Yugi wouldn't have been left with 100, it would have been game. That said, Noah pulled so much bullshit he didn't deserve to win. Given he should have lost to Kaiba anyway.
Camulla deck is pretty good for the GX era. If I had to guess the unused cards, I would say they are extra copies of Vampire Lord and Vampire Genesis.
Also, her japanese theme is pretty cool!
The case of Red Ghost Moon is fairly interesting. Ultimately, it comes down to whether you choose to follow how the anime says its effect should play out (as usually the anime doesn't permit "misplays" that involve misunderstanding card effects or resolving them incorrectly) or how the card text itself is worded.
But going by how it happened in the anime, the text should be something like this:
"During your Opponent's Battle Phase, discard 1 Zombie-Type monster and target 1 Attack Position monster your opponent controls; Gain Life Points equal to the ATK of that monster. Also, end the Battle Phase."
I'd prefer to assume the anime characters and the duelling system they use is correct, and not how we interpret PSCT in the actual game, especially for anime-only cards.
I would change the "also, end the battle phase" to something like "if this card was activated when an attack is declared on a monster you control: the battle phase is ended." Or something similar.
The "also" in your version makes the battle phase not end if the effect fizzles, making zane's refusal to attack with his 3 cyber dragons an idiotic move. Having the battle phase end regardless of if the lp gain effect fizzles is how the players treat it.
Hm... it might be easier to write it in one of those "activate each of the following effects in sequence." Formats. With battle phase ending being first (resolving before the lp gain effect), then the lp gain effect activating after.

The funny thing is, Jaden didn't need the attack boost from Shining Flare Wingman's effect to win the duel. All he had to do is attack the weaker Zombie Werewolf with Wingman at his regular 2500 attack. Camula had 2400 life points at the start of the battle phase. 2500-1200 is 1300, leaving her with 1100 life points. Minus the 1200 from Shining Flare Wingman's other effect, and game over.

The two cards that Camula had in her hand is Vampire Grimson and Call of the Haunted in the first duel, Despair from the Darkness and Goblin Zombie in the second duel, Reborn Zombie and Vampire Dragon in the third and final duel.
I think the 2 cards that Camula kept getting were just brick cards, like the ones you get that might help eventually, but never get to that moment, or the criteria to play them doesn't come along.

Camula was easily the best of the Shadow Riders. Had a good backstory, a nice aesthetic and she actually was portrayed as a more capable threat than most. Shame most of the other Riders couldn't have risen to this quality.
Edit: In fairness to Camula, even without cheating she probably beats Crowler anyway. The trap card she used wouldn't have mattered if she simply brought Vampire Lord back from the grave to attack for game.

I personally believe she uses what we all came to know as the zombie structure deck. Could possibly explain the bricks and boss monsters that required special summoning. She was an interesting villainess and I wish we saw more of her. I love your series, cheers!

Camula, despite her cheating, clearly had some talent and skill as a duelist. I mean, just because you know someone's deck/strat doesn't mean you'll win, as I'm sure a lot of us have played against friends decks we knew inside and out and still lost (not to mention generic cookie-cutter decks online). It's a shame (?) it wouldn't be until later on that more/better vampire support would be released. Imagine if she had had access to Fraulein or Vampire Domination. I'd say she'd slot in as an A-rank duelist. Maybe an A-, but an A. Her real shortcoming was that the cards of the time really didn't allow too much within her theme.

I should clarify my own tiering.
At the top you have 'main protag'. These are characters whose wins/loses are dictated more by narrative than by actual skill; but at the same time they do tend to be actually quite skilled or at least 'capable'. You'd find the likes of Yugi, Jaden, and Kaiba here.
Then you have S-rank. These duelists are very skilled and capable, at least by the end of their series, even if their deck isn't necessarily the best. They might not have plot armor but they are skilled and their losses tend to be a result of them challenging the BBEG or something similar. Someone like Akiza would be here. Very skilled duelists whose duels are matches of skill as opposed to deck strength.
A-ranks are potent duelists who display clear talent and skill but have some clear shortcomings as well. This is where Camula fits in. In her case she blatantly cheated and held a hostage; yet at the same time her victory against Crowler was legitimate and she at least threatened Jaden who is a main character and had a realistic shot at victory. It's unknown of she could have bested Zane (An S-rank) but that she could even get him to such a state, regardless of if she had deck knowledge or not, shows she's not a slouch as a duelist.
B-ranks are your standard gimmick duelist. Characters with some flashy deck capable of holding attention for an episode or two and putting up a struggle but it's also clear they never stood a chance. Mako is a good example of this. His deck was capable of getting some licks in in both battles but it was clear from the get-go that he was no match for Yugi. Even if Yugi technically cheesed the win.
C-ranks: Similar to B-ranks but with one distinct difference. It's pretty clear that they held no actual chance to win, were mainly around to showcase a deck, and while they may get a lick or two in it's not really a 'struggle' to put them down either; especially once their gimmick is revealed. A good example being Bones from Duelist Kingdom if we ignore Kieth's back-seat advising.
D-ranks: This is for no-talent hacks who either have to cheat or rely on some shenanigan to have a chance of winning the duel. Weevil, Rex, and possibly Kieth are good examples. I'd also consider acid-slime boy (you know who I'm talking about) to be here because... don't you think it's so weird his deck just so happened to be specifically made to counter Zane despite so much of it being useless normally? Almost like someone had tipped him off as to who his opponent was and he built his deck with that in mind.
Camular cheated and used a hostage, but she legit beat Crowler, put Jaden on the back foot, and may or may not have been able to beat Zane. As a result I consider her an 'A-' duelist. Potent and with clear talent/skill, but also some clear shortcomings which I blame more on how lacking vampires were at the time (they still are compared to other archtypes... But she had to fill her deck out with freaking werewolves. As a vampire. That's how minor it was back then.) than anything related to her.
18:45 Doesn’t the Werewolf summon another copy when defeated? That’s a OTK if she attacked with it first.
Are they using proper Yugioh rules by this point? I know in original Yugioh a defeated monster is considered the property of the one whose field it was on, not the original owners. That's why Yugi's infinite combo with Revival Jam against Slifer worked.
So I got curious about that first turn with Zane, and knowing cards between the OCG and TCG, even if they are never printed, can differ.
So, since there is likely a translation error, I went and looked at the Japanese Red Ghost Moon, and translated it.
I got:
"Discard 1 undead from your hand. Recover Life Points equal to the attack power of the opponent's attacking monster, and end the Battle Phase."
While it never targeted Cyber End, it specifically says "attacking monster," which means Bastion is technically correct that when Zane de-fused it, it lost its target.
This also means Camula could not have recovered the 2100 life points from a Cyber Dragon, since there is no longer an attacking monster. However, this time the card says "and," so the battle phase does indeed still end.
No OTK for Zane, winning the duel would have relied on what he could have done after the revival of Barrier.

I'm going to choose to believe the 2 mysterious cards were actually part of a small Skull Servant "engine" as a backup wincon, so she's bricking on Skull Servant and/ or King of the Skull Servants.
They are monsters but they're mostly just fodder without setup, and she had better options at every stage in these games. She was never actually in a position of "I have nothing to summon". Everyone in the anime always seems to draw what they need to play out their strategy so something like "hard draw vampire Lord and Vampire Genesis, then summon them" doesn't actually suffer from the inconsistency it should have. It makes sense to have a slower backup strategy to follow Vampire Genesis if that wasn't enough to win, and since Genesis is her main wincon the narrative ensures she'll probably get it out relatively fast; This leaves time for dumping Skull Servants the slow & painful way.
It makes sense why Camula wouldn't summon Skull Servants over other options, Werewolf & Bat both have effects to maintain field presence, Lord into Genesis are her wincon, Lady has better stats. Acts like discarding Vampire Lord or Ryu Kokki still make sense over the skeletons as Vampire Lord was to setup it's revival by Book of Life and Ryu Kokki was discarded to revive a lower level monster.

If they were spells they'd have to be awful because whatever conditions they have were never met in their respective duel(s), OR Camula could've used them and decided against it for the entirety of those duels which in turn implies they were never worth playing. Cards like Pyramid of Wonders might be bad by todays standards but they'd absolutely be played by GX era anime characters who main a Zombie deck and you'd see them look all smug when they use it. Minor atk boosts actually made/ would have made significant differences at various points in these duels so I don't think either is an equip spell.
Maybe it could be something like Paralysing Potion in games 1 & 2 since it doesn't work on Machines, but that'd mean Camula the "I spied on all your decks and am declaring who will be my opponent" vampire knowingly teched a card that wouldn't work against the opponents she specifically called to battle.

Cost down would make sense to be in her deck as one of the two un shown cards. Shadow ghoul would also be a good guess for one of them. Maybe field barrier too for the duels where she didn't play her field spell. Also considering the bats and wolfs searching themselves any card that could swap a card from the hand with one in the deck would be logical in case she drew more than one copy of either of those.
Considering you’ve done the 2 battle city semi finals (joey vs marik and yugi vs kaiba ) and 1 quarter final (yugi vs bakura) perhaps for the ride up to end of 2022, do the other 3 quarter final duels (joey vs odion, Mai vs marik and ishizu vs kaiba) (possible the 4 way duel before the semi finals) then after those are done only then do yugi vs marik - battle city finals done and dusted.

Camula would have won against Jaden that Turn if the werewolf would have attacked first because the way floaters work is Even if they are under the Opponents Control when they are destroyed they Go to YOUR Grave so it would Summon another one from her Deck to end the duel.
That assumes they're working under true Yugioh rules and not anime rules. Remember Strings with Slifer, and Yugi's infinite revival combo which made him deck out with Marik's own brain controlled monster?

I think she could have also won if 1 of her 2 mystery cards was Vampire Bat and if she had summoned that instead of Zombie Werewolf it should be able to stay on the field up to the point Jaden summons Shining Flare Wingman with 3100 atk and her Bat would increas her Vampire Genisis atk to 3200 and would be immune to destruction thanks to its effect so next turn she could attack and beat Jaden's monster XD
When looking at the actual Japanese text of Red Ghost Moon, it mentions how you gain LP equal to 1 attacking monster's ATK stat and it ends the Battle Phase. However, it does not mention "then" or anything that would indicate such a ruling. This was most likely added to the Wiki because of what Bastion mentions, but I'm pretty confident to say that Bastion was simply wrong here (he's only a Ra Yellow afterall).
Bottomline is, what actually happened in the Duel is entirely correct based on the Japanese text (the attacking monster disappeared so there was no LP gain, but the Battle Phase still ended because Red Ghost Moon triggered succesfully either way), but Bastion just had to be a failing smartass and make a claim that was plain wrong. Then it became "canon" just because he said so, which caused this discrepency between what's documented and what's actually happening.
As for Camula's "mysterious cards", based on the Ryu Kokki and Despair from the Dark, I think they were just random high level Zombie monsters. She always did a Normal Summon every turn so it makes sense she would be unable to perform Tribute Summons. The real question imo is: could she have searched better options than Ryu Kokki and Despair? There were a bunch of Zombie monsters at that time that could have arguably been much better options, so I can only assume that Camula didn't actually have them.

Personally I would assume since she drew Vampire Warewolf all 3 games in a row, that she could've drawn 2 Zoma the Dark Spirit traps since it is a Zombie trap. Against Crowler didn't make sense to play it since she knew he liked to stop S/T from being used. Against Zane with CEO'S piercing effect, she'd lose before she could ever use it's burn effect and Against Jaden, she thought she won on that Giant Trunade turn sooooo

Beyond the actual duel, Zane (in the dub) was initially planning on storming Camula’s castle alone, which would’ve kept her from sacrificing Syrus. So unless Illusion Gate could’ve let her offer her opponent’s soul as a tribute, he could’ve stalled with Barrier Dragon and potentially turned things around.
Also, it wasn’t necessary to do so, but if Jaden summoned Bubbleman BEFORE Tempest, he could’ve drawn 2 extra cards thanks to its anime effect.
I feel like that would be a classic Yu-gi-oh magic bullshit ability.
That being said, i feel like Zane would have done it anyway, he wouldn't sacrifice his brother, but he would self sacrifice for the good of the world.
For Camula's mystery two cards (except in the second duel, as those can be seen as Despair from the Dark and Vampire Bat as mentioned by KonekoEmzee), lets keep in mind something very important: All of Camula's non-anime cards are found in the structure deck "Zombie Madness", which even has Vampire Genesis as the cover art. Thus, if we assume they aren't anime-only cards (as then they could be literally anything), there are a few options for the cards we don't see from that structure deck.
In the other two duels, they could be: Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower (never really a good time to play it in either duel), Nobleman of Crossout (as neither Crowler nor Jaden ever has a face-down monster), or up to two Reloads (as she doesn't ever really have a bad hand). For Crowler's duel in particular, they could also have been Despair from the Dark or Ryu Kokki.
|\Maybe the mysterious two cards where garnets? High level zombie monsters she planned to use with Crimson Genesis bring out lower level zombie monsters but otherwise didn't plan to use.
I have a feeling that had Zane called Camula's bluff, and Syrus soul not been on the line, he could have potentially drawn something like "Creature Swap" to get back "Cyber End Dragon" by swapping out "Cyber Barrier Dragon" - albeit only after switching the latter monster to defence mode to avoid "Barrier Dragon's" attack blocking effect.
I will say though that Crowler's duel with Camula gave me a lot more respect for Crowler after he went from "MUST EXPEL THE SLIFER SLACKERS!!!" to protecting his students in such a short amount of time show wise.

Since Camula’s deck was inspired by/the inspiration for the Zombie Madness Structure Deck, I think that those two mysterious cards may have been Call of the Mummy, Creature Swap, Reload, Dust Tornado, Torrential Tribute, Magic Jammer, Reckless Greed and/or Compulsory Evacuation Device. One of those two cards may have been Reload because what if she used it, added her hand back into the deck, shuffled and the drawn the same amount she had when she activated it. She may have to change her entire strategy in order to defeat Crowler, Zane and Jaden if she had Reload
I love the first duel for Crowler as a character. As a fan of GX I just how in spite of being against Jaden for being in the school he can swallow that annoyance to actually protect him and the others from Camula during the duels.

That Dual with Zane Was Bull can you imagine if someone came up to a tournament and played a card that wiped the field summoned an op monster and then the player pulls out a gun and was like "OK now if I lose I get to shoot a member of the audience." Like the show has some OP anime only cards but even then they mostly keep to affecting only the two people dueling themselves and never this powerful.

the 2 mysterious cards are probably cards meant to counter other members of the GX cast. It's probable that she put all of her anti-support into 1 deck rather than doing what Bastion does and having many decks to counter each different player. For instance, in the first duel the first 2 cards could have been anti-warrior support to disrupt Jaden and Alexis but were worthless against Crowler's machine deck.

Hmm...let's see. Camula not only draws both Vampire Lord and Zombie Werewolf in her opening hand in all three duels, she also top decks specific counter strategies against both Crowler and Zane turn one as well, even top decking her ultimate monster turn two against Zane. Then again, Zane's opening draw was equally hax.

Great analysis. Camula was probably the most interesting of the Shadow Riders/Seven Stars IMO, and her theme in the JP version was absolutely kickass.
Just wondering, would you also be able to analyse Jaden VS Tania if you haven't already? I thought it was a fun duel, but I was left scratching my head over how that last turn worked.
For the next duel analysis I'd really like to see the triple duel of Yuma, Kaito, and Shark VS Dr faker from season 1 episode 69 of Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal (or just any of Kaito's duels really, but mostly this one)
One thing I don't get is that Zane could have just let Syrus get his soul ripped out and then say, "ok if I win, then you give Crowler and Syrus back," and then just beat her.
If Bastion says that de-fusion caused red moon to lose its target then I damn sure trust him to be right....Zane should've attacked for game and end that vampire biatch right there on his first turn!!

Keep in mind we’re in the GX era. Around this time, basically every card targeted except field nukes like Dark Hole and Heavy Storm. The cards back in the day didn’t need to say it targets in order to target, you just had to know the card ruling

I would assume at least for the first duel against Crowler, I'm gonna say the 2 unknown cards are Giant Trunade and Genesis Crisis spell cards.
Why Giant Trunade? Because of the Zombie bed trap card that she set on the first turn that she hopes Crowler would destroy it as a surprise counter.
Why Genesis Crisis? Because she doesn't have Vampire Genesis monster until the very last turn where she draws it where she pretty much have game since Crowler doesn't have any backrow cards to stop her because of Heavy Storm.
That's how I personally would speculate those 2 cards would be.

I love how Jaden randomly decides to run a "counter" to Giant Trunade and it actually saves him
My theory as to what Camula's two mysterious cards are relates to both Zombie Werewolf and Vampire Bats. She has effects that use them and extra copies of said cards *in her deck* (Werewolf's own effect summoning a new one, and how she protected the Bats during the duel with Crowler). Therefore, I believe those mysterious cards to be something that would return extra copies of those two monsters to her deck from her hand in case she drew them, such as Reload or Magical Mallet. And of course, because the plot allowed her not to worry about drawing the extra copies, they became dead draws until a scenario where they'd help came up.
Given her deck in the game LOTD:LE I'd say one of the 2 mysterious cards was Zombie Master. She doesn't play him because she can't meet his cost at any of the important moments in the duels. She lacks an extra monster to send from hand to graveyard to use his effect. If she could have used him, she could have had 2 zombie werewolves and book of life ready to revive a vampire monster giving her game. The other card could be something like vampire awakening or desire but this is just an uneducated guess, as these cards merely assist the general idea of the vampire archetype. Also Jaden 's reason for playing so aggressively was actually hatred of camula for what she did to Crowler and Zane while he was incapacitated, she responds to Jaden's outburst with the line 'guess what, I don't care.' before initiating the duel which prompts Jaden's manner of card play. It's literally there in the episode Jaden duels Camula in.
We all know camula winning against Zane was a fluke lol and to be honest Zane should have been the last one with Jaden to have the keys, I'm curious in who would win against Zane vs kagemaru instead of Jaden vs kagemaru 🤔
Especially since we find out later that the keys weren't even required to open the Gate, just enough Dueling Energy. So Zane didn't need to actually lose for plot in the end.

The way I'd see it if Zane never actually lost theres two possible scenarios.
Kangemaru would either battle both Jaden and Zane 1 vs 2 match.
2nd option, pull a Tag Force 1 and duel each of them individually. As in Tag Force 1 you have to beat Kagemaru twice
PSCT wasn't around in early GX in the TCG but for OCG text there has to the best of my knowledge been consistent text throughout the game's life span and the subbed version does show the text so we can examine it. Red Ghost Moon reads: "相手の攻撃モンスター" (Opponent's Attack Position Monster), compare to a card from around the same era, Draining Shield "攻撃モンスター１体を対象" (closer to a transliteration would be "Target 1 opponent's attacking monster"). You can notice the text is different and so it doesn't state that it targets.
In this instance, since it is said directly in dialogue that Red Ghost Moon targets, this would be IMO an animation error in the depiction of the card's text but it could also be considered an erroneous ruling. But if the card targets it still is a ruling error since it should not be able to end the Battle Phase without LP gain.
I think Gorz came out after GX was into season 3 so the mentality for "biggest first then smaller" would have still been the play for season 1
Crowler's unknown cards we'll say are "Trojan Horse"(choosing to not play it because it would not benefit the castle's boost) and "Ancient Gear Cannon"(choose not to play because of the field Camula had after her turn)
possibly for the second duel Camula's two unknown cards we can say is a "Book of Life" and for fun "Vampire Werewolf" because RNG
I think we can assume for the third duel one of them would be "Undead Bed" and for the sake of plausible choices she had two of them in hand
