2024 starter deck just wasn't constructed well. I think at the very least it could have been based off the old SJCs of the early 2000s. Chaos, Beat down with solid spell/traps and an actual emphasis on the Battle Phase. Then possibly include the other summoning elements of the extra deck. The only sub type you'd need to know about is a tuner anyway based on what they included.
They weren't even designed to be "played", they were built with scripted dueling in mind, so the result is similar if not worse than when you make an actual deck anime character uses, including suspiciously situational cards.
@@diinouhothead9362it’s honestly worse than the original starter decks because it was designed around a scripted duel, which imo, isn’t even fun. It’s not a video game tutorial, it’s a physical card game; you learn through mistakes also the fact that older starter decks included card types I don’t think they even included in the new one is really silly
Off the top of my head, one of the decks being Cyber Dragon based would have allowed them to "teach" Fusion, XYZ and Link summoning, while the other deck could have been speedroids to teach Synchro and Pendulums. Considering they wouldn't be optimized versions anyway there would have been plenty of room to have a core strategy for both and then have just solid basic tech cards
I feel you are too harsh on it. It's not a good deck, but after the scripted duel to understand it, you are supposed to use the deck to practice and learn. It's trying to simplify an overly complex game and bring in new people and old fans who don't know sh*t.... It's a learning deck, not a battle deck...
@@TheDeathmail Then it should be based in a format that one can learn with that kind of scripted duel. This was a lot of fun! The Yugi starter definitely put up a fight, and it's so funny how the 2024 decks randomly have some stuff that would be at home in 2002 starters 😂
Because those are easy to use cards.... which will help the player learn the mechanics.... This set is more about learning how to play than to actually be a decent deck.... You start with a scripted trial run duel and then afterwards, you play it. But it's also designed to be slow so you can take your time and learn the rules....
This idea is genius i could watch a hundred videos of old school starter decks vs modern starter decks. Maybe even do three copies so like at max power with no banlist who is really coming out on top

It was neat to see a duel between an older deck and a newer deck bc I've played a few duels like that myself in the game since I haven't unlocked any newer cards in-game yet. Synchro Monsters have white frames, and begin the duel in your Extra Deck. Some monsters, main deck or extra deck, can be Tuners, as indicated next to the monster's type. It'll look like [Warrior/Tuner/Effect] as stated on "Junk Synchron" for example. All other monsters are non-Tuner monsters. To summon a Synchro Monster, you must have monsters face-up on your field with Levels totalling the Synchro Monster's Level, also suiting its summoning condition. For example, "Stardust Dragon" is a Level 8 Synchro Monster that requires 1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters. 1+ simply means 1 or more. You could have a Level 3 Tuner, a Level 1 non-Tuner, and a Level 4 non-Tuner, send them to the graveyard as Synchro Materials, and Synchro Summon "Stardust Dragon" from your Extra Deck. The Level total must be exact, and you cannot go over. You cannot use face-down monsters as Synchro Material. Xyz Monsters (pronounced "ikseez") have black frames, and begin the duel in your Extra Deck. They can be summoned by controlling multiple monsters on your field with the same Level, according to the first line of text on the card. "Kachi Kochi Dragon" requires 2 Level 4 monsters, for example. You overlay the monsters onto one monster zone, and place the Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck on top of them, performing an Xyz Summon. The monsters now underneath that Xyz Monster become Xyz Materials, which are typically used as costs for the Xyz Monster's effects, and go to the graveyard when detached. Xyz Materials are not treated as being on the field, being in a unique state that mostly cannot be interacted with unless a card says it does. Like Link Monsters, Xyz Monsters do not possess a Level, instead having a Rank, so Level-related stuff doesn't apply to them. You cannot use face-down monsters as Xyz Material.

Alec, Great games well played! Represent the Old School Decks! I love seeing the energy and role play aspects as you get into Character! Paul, well played as well - I love seeing these types of games. Keep it up team!
Okay, that ending was hilarious. I didn't expect that and was sipping water when Paul summoned Dark Magician. And while I knew the OG deck wouldn't stand a chance against modern decks, I was surprised it did that well.
I appreciate that Alec trusted his grandfather's deck! We believe in the heart of the cards! Also, i really loved Alec's enthusiasm. Made the match feel a little more like the show 😊
3:19 Alec might have won if he used Monster Reborn to summon a monster from the grave after using Change of Heart on Coral Dragon and tribute both for Dark Magician so Coral Dragon won't return to Paul's field at the end of the turn
I like the two player starter set because while it clearly does still need some tweaking it’s definitely the best starter product to have come out, the scripted duel starts low and slow and ramp up the skill as it goes along. You are never meant to actually bring starter decks to actual serious duels they are starter decks designed to help you learn mechanics. Some people have confused starter decks for structure decks lately. Starter decks are beginner training and structure decks are more in depth pre constructed strategies.
If you have the legendary hero decks it would be cool to see a duel with them because even though they are decently old I have seen almost no duels online with them
you know, I used the new starter set with my mom and my uncle and instead of letting them do it on their own i was there and explained everything in more detail than the book because they leave things out intentionally to make it easier to understand but still it lacks a few basic rules and once i was there with them my mom actually understood a synchro summon LOL I never would have imagined XD
I believe the newer decks are gonna win - I just think as the game has progressed traps have become more of a deck necessity, spell cards have become more useful/complex, and the monsters have gotten really out of hand powerful, not to mention the side deck shenanigans. In a modern starter deck; I feel like you have to introduce how to synchro summon, how to XYZ summon, and how to Link Summon, and contact fusion summons - so much for polymerisation. (let’s just forget about pendulum summoning . . . That’s not duel monsters). But honestly- there are easier ways of getting out really strong monsters in modern decks . . . And those decks tend to play better synergistically than the randomness of the Original Starter Decks. So as much as I love the OG starter decks - my money is on the new decks. 😖
Just got back into Yugioh!! Went to my local card shop and they old school tourney nights. Building a Gravekeeper deck. Gonna get an OG starter deck for the memories lol
That first duel was so frustrating because Alec had the game in the bag and blew it. Change of heart was good. Then monster reborn skull Attack with both Even with Paul using his trap to get a monster in defense, that dies and paul takes 2500 LP of damage. MP 2, Alec sacrifices both monsters for Dark Magician preventing Paul from having Coral dragon back. Next turn if Alec wants to try and get more draw power do the card destruction play. Then it's game over before Paul can mount an adequate defense.
That was fun :) I'm glad it took a game, and honestly it had a decent showing in the first game, too. Needing a tribute for Doma the Angel of Silence is brutal, though, lol.
at 3:37 when he used changed of hearts why did he not just use monster reborn instead of activating monster effect, bring back summon skull attack with the synco and summon skull enter phase 2 tribute both summon skull and the synco summon dark magician from hand then use card distruction?
@16:20 when you summon the Dark Magician and bro basically flipped the table x) i lost it hahahaha. that was not what how i saw the duel ending. i like seeing the face offs of these starter decks.

LOL Alec at the end lmao that was such a funny move to make
Don't remember what the old starters had, but if banned cards are on the table I know feelings are going to get hurt before I even watch.
Man, the art on the 2002 is so good. I remember trying to explain to my parents about Dark Magician and how much I needed it lmao.
This was such a fun video! I know nothing about modern yugioh so I had a blast watching this.
As someone who doesn't play Yu-Gi-Oh, this was very entertaining. Great editing
"What was Pegasus smoking?" I love how much he hams it up 😂
Alec, Great games well played!
Made the match feel a little more like the show 😊
Loved the music that was playing during the second duel. Hit me right in the nostalgia
I knew the 2024 deck was going to win! Haha, love the video keep it up man.
3:19 Alec might have won if he used Monster Reborn to summon a monster from the grave after using Change of Heart on Coral Dragon and tribute both for Dark Magician so Coral Dragon won't return to Paul's field at the end of the turn
its so funny watching those old cards put up a fight till power creep set in XD
7:15 oh wow. this music. i love world wide edition for the GBA 🥰
im impresive about the win of the starter yugi deck :o, but maybe yugi win twise if the trap hole trap was activated jeje good video
Dude Alec was super entrataining, I was giggling like a child with the way he revealed the effects of those old cards
The end was to disrespectful with the dark magician 😂
That tribute summon for doma sure was one heck of move. Changed the whole game. Haha
Man that OG Yugoslav deck and art brings back sooo many fond childhood memories.
Love the spirit you brought to the Starter Deck Yugi!
I love Alec’s energy feels sounds like the cards really turned him into yugi
That was amazing! Let's see Yugi vs Kaiba!
Just got back into Yugioh!! Went to my local card shop and they old school tourney nights. Building a Gravekeeper deck. Gonna get an OG starter deck for the memories lol
Im diggin the worldwide edition music lol
Damn Alec really summoned his inner Yugi. Great vid guys.
That first duel was so frustrating because Alec had the game in the bag and blew it.
Change of heart was good.
Then monster reborn skull
Attack with both
Even with Paul using his trap to get a monster in defense, that dies and paul takes 2500 LP of damage.
MP 2, Alec sacrifices both monsters for Dark Magician preventing Paul from having Coral dragon back.
Next turn if Alec wants to try and get more draw power do the card destruction play.
Then it's game over before Paul can mount an adequate defense.
He had game at 2 different times in Game 1. Some very bad misplaying
That was fun :) I'm glad it took a game, and honestly it had a decent showing in the first game, too.
Needing a tribute for Doma the Angel of Silence is brutal, though, lol.
The way Alec talking during the duels like the main character 😂
These duels totally feel like a different game. Take me back
at 3:37 when he used changed of hearts why did he not just use monster reborn instead of activating monster effect, bring back summon skull attack with the synco and summon skull enter phase 2 tribute both summon skull and the synco summon dark magician from hand then use card distruction?
I really like how quick these duels were. :)
@16:20 when you summon the Dark Magician and bro basically flipped the table x) i lost it hahahaha. that was not what how i saw the duel ending. i like seeing the face offs of these starter decks.
You can tell Paul really enjoyed this he was cheesing when Alec was going full yugi "draw 1, monster reborn dark magician"
This was fun! More of this!
