To be fair, at least in Nigeria, our churches are more full on Easter and Christmas cause there are less masses. Like a church that would usually have a 6am, 8 am, 10am and 6pm mass would only have a 6am and 9am mass on Easter and Christmas.

I'll never forget preaching on Easter in a church that was in the midst of a struggle to either Reform, or Deform. They had come out of a failing mainline denomination and had lost almost all biblical teaching for the prior 10 years before my call. I preached on 1 Corinthians 15 first Easter Sunday I was there. The looks of surprise, hope, joy, anger, confusion, and hate on so many faces was bewildering.
Preaching on the resurrection hope of Christ really brings out the tension and distinctive between easy believism, American religiosity, and Biblical Christianity.

@Chris Johnson Unfortunately many who were growing in the faith were not welcomed. The church was fractured and while I was called by many people on the search team who wanted to see a return to biblical Christianity, there were more people in a camp that were hostile and preferred for private spirituality of easy believism.
Ultimately I resigned as the church was continuing to fracture and some of the sheep who were growing were becoming targets of attacks by those who disapproved of biblical instruction. Over the course of 2 years things quickly entrenched as an "us" vs "them" mentality. I failed to notice the cracks and fractures early enough to work to prevent them and spent more of my time pursuing the directives of the spiritual leaders who wrote my oversight which was to grow the church. Because I spent time discipling and evangelizing, I didn't spend needed time and energy on working through the conflicts and disagreements that were brewing. By the time I resigned I learned that some of the deep-seated resentment among different people was decades long.
I resigned in the hope that the Lord would provide for the healing of the people with different leadership, or that he would continue the work of separating the sheep from the goats. Many who were growing in faith found other churches to attend. Some remained. The Lord has sense called me and my family to other congregations to pastor and serve.
It was a sad thing, and I cannot say I was blameless in all things, although I did remain blameless in my preaching the gospel. I certsinly should have been wiser in recognizing the need to heal, rsther than the stated desire to grow. Ultimately when I shared that need within the congregation it was made clear my leadership was not longer wanted. The good news is that the Lord works through imperfect servants declaring his perfect word. I'm thankful for those I got to see come to faith, baptize, and grow in the Lord.
As one of my wiser, older mentors said to me "you witnessed that the word always does its work. Sometimes that is to soften hearts to receive the gospel. Sometimes that is to harden hearts against the gospel". I'm thankful for the time I had there, the experiences and service I and my family got to engage in, and I'm thankful that ministry is not ultimstely dependent on me, but is a work of God which I'm blessed to participate in. I pray for my old congregations that the Lord will continue to heal and grow them into Christ likenesses through his mercy and grace.

He doesn't have TIME for a meeting. And besides that, he already has everything he's going to do laid out in a book that hasn't changed in any substantial way in a few centuries. No planning needed : )

The plan was to move them from CaEo to more regular attendance and getting the kids in Sunday School. Like the Presbyterian, we celebrated the resurrection weekly. Easter was a good time to welcome young families to their new church home. (And we meant to be that home.)

    Big Eva… Nondenominational
I attended a nondenominational church one Easter. I was sitting next to an older woman who was a friend of mine and had invited me there. She and I about went through the floor when they started showing one of those popular movies where Christ is ripped apart, nailed and stabbed, all bloody and being dragged to the cross….on HUGE SCREENS ( 3 of them in the front of the church ). Pretty much everybody who was over age 30 in the congregation had their mouths open and were covering their kids eyes and ears. It was just unbelievable that they would do/showsomething like that on a nice, sunny, Easter morning with everyone there with their families. I never went back again.

But right now, I'm assuming the church does not celebrate good friday. I don't think we should forget that our Saviour was crucified on such a gruesome way for our sins. Oh for Catholics, we have so many services leading up to Easter.
All the priest are burnt out by Sunday.
Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday the week before is usually our longest Sunday Mass (note I said Sunday).
Then Holy Thursday, we in Philadelphia, P.A. are lucky to have Chrism Mass that morning, a special service where the Archdiocese gathers to receive their yearly allotment of Blessed Oils and Chrisms, that the Bishop fleshly blessed during that Mass. I like taking both Catholic and Protestant friends to that Mass.
Holy Thursday Night, another Passion Liturgy. After that Mass, the Church is stripped bare for remembrance of Good Friday, Beautiful and Eerie when done well.
Good Friday, 3 hour prayer service (Noon to 3 P.M.) honoring the Passion of Christ. Then pre-sanctified service, not at regular Mass.
    Saturday Morning, no service.
Saturday Evening/ Afternoon the Longest Mass of the Year. With the most readings.
The Easter Vigil Mass. So Many readings.
If the parish is lucky, we celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation for those becoming Catholic.
Then regular 2-6 Sunday Mass schedule for Easter Sunday.
All the Priest are exhausted by sunrise so the Evening Masses are not skipped and You can see how tired the Priest are after 5, 6, 7, or 8 P.M. Masses
Thank You for beingnice to Catholics in the video.

If the instruments are so loud that you can't hear yourself or any of the other singers in the congregation, it kind if kills the mood for me. Our church still holds to the acapella singing during worship and it is really just a preference for me now. I didn't come from a church background to begin knew next to nothing about CoC before finding my current church home. My only experience with worship practices were always singing accompanied with some kind of musical instrument like piano or guitar. My first time at a CoC where they only do acapella singing was a little weird and strange to me. Overtime though, I've come to appreciate it and enjoy it. No one in my congregation considers it to be sinful or disorderly to have instrumental music. I guess it's mainly just tradition and habit that we don't have instruments.

@Donald J. Proulx III thanks for responding. I minister at a Christian Church (not Disciples of Christ) and was asking because the term Church of Christ is broad. Non instrumental Churches of Christ tend to hold if the does not prescribe an aspect of worship. It is forbidden in corporate worship. Where as Christian Churches/Churches of Christ (instrumental) often hold as long as the Bible does not condemn it, then it's open to conscience. So, I was seeking some clarification. It is encouraging to hear your church family has a preference but does not elevate to an extreme issue. God bless!

    • @DonMan81

@@robertdeuel4332 It was a year or two after joining my church that I learned that some CoCs held to the view that if it wasn't prescribed or shown as examples in the Bible (specifically new testament because old testament contains lots of instrumental use for worship) than it was either sinful, dishonorable or disorderly within the corporate worship context. I always found that unusual and weird. I have always seen it as a Romans 14 issue and a matter of conscience. The first time I was out of town and visited a local CoC wherever I was, that's when I first discovered that viewpoint. It was interesting and a little uncomfortable for sure but I'm very glad I am where I am, lol.

As a Reformed Baptist, we don't really have an Easter service. If you show up and we happen to be preaching on the resurrection because that's related directly to the text we're already going through, then cool beans for you, but we don't really deviate for anything from our standard exposition of the text we're already in.

You do understand that in the Midwest and the Great Plains, Methodists are sort of Baptist Lite. My grandmother was a Methodist and belonged to the WCTU.
If anything, whacky Methodists are Catholic Lite, using a communion service that reads like the first English language Mass after Vatican II and offering ashes on Ash Wednesday.

Yup. People who try to tie East to Ishtar worship (zero historical evidence as inspiringphilosophy has pointed out) miss the fact that much of the Christian world calls it Pascha. Easter is mostly Western Christians, if I'm not mistaken.

One Easter I chose to visit a church that turned out to be progressive, and literally that's exactly what they taught. It would have been an actual good sermon without the heresy bit. I'm pretty sure that's also the only time I heard outright heresy during a Sunday service.

    • @finchborat
      @finchborat 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

The Christian Left is guilty of spewing heresy. And most of the negative things Christian conservatives are accused of are things Christian liberals are guilty of.
There's one nut who thinks the meaning of Easter is not Jesus defeating death, but instead thinks Easter is about listening to women preach resurrection, switching the sword for the cross, rejecting the ways of empire and rising up for the oppressed, and paradise for the humble and power for the marginalized. The guy also thinks prayer is somehow a scam.
Christians who jump on the prayer bashing bandwagon immediately forfeit their credibility. Christians who bash prayer after shootings aren't Christians.
