  • The goddess Ishtar, who may or may not be someone else, has arrived to inform that everything you love about Easter is pagan.
    But it ain't so.

      As someone who believes the opposite of what this video is meant to teach I can say that's about how it goes when you try to warn institutional christianity about the paganism they're infected with.
      Christ was born!-thus we put up a tree we deck with gold and silver every year and hold a christmas eve candle ceremony.
      At this point I've just come to realize it's a lost cause.
      The Holy Spirit must convict them, reason sure wont, they've exchanged it for tradition

      @@your_name_here2158The difference between how paganism has infected Christian holidays and how Christianity has influenced Pagan religions throughout history is really telling though. Christmas Trees, Stockings, the Easter Bunny, etc are small traditions that made Christianity more approachable to the pagans of the times and certain areas, yet they were adopted and shaped to be representative of Christ and his birth/resurrection/etc. Whereas when Paganism was changed to attract Christianity, the entire lore of their gods shifted. They claimed that Odin in his endless pursuit of knowledge hung himself from Yggdrasil, the World Tree to learn of death and the runes, where he impaled himself with a spear in the side, and let himself starve and die of thirst over nine days, before bleeding out onto the runes beneath him, giving him their power, one of which was able to resurrect him. That’s not a small tradition that has been adopted to represent Christ, but a full on piece of their beliefs and lore that is ripped straight up from the story of Christ with few changes. Pagan traditions CAN be dangerous when it comes to Christian Holidays, but the examples are usually still clear. Santa becoming a bigger symbol of Christmas than Christ, and consumerism outweighing the gift of charity associated with gift giving are two recent issues. Coca Cola is largely responsible for the popularity of Santa and his outweighing of Christ, to where people celebrate Christmas as atheists because they find it fun and feel entitled to presents, not because it means anything to them. The smaller details like candles on pine trees and stockings aren’t what bothers me, as topping the tree with an angel or the star that foretold Christ’s birth pulls the symbolism together, especially when placed alongside carols and Christ in the Manger. There’s a line between what detracts and what adds to Christian holidays.

      [5:109]
      In the day when Allah gathereth together the messengers, and saith: What was your response (from mankind) ? they say: We have no knowledge. Lo! Thou, only Thou art the Knower of Things Hidden,
      [5:110]
      When Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! Remember My favour unto thee and unto thy mother; how I strengthened thee with the holy Spirit, so that thou spakest unto mankind in the cradle as in maturity; and how I taught thee the Scripture and Wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and how thou didst shape of clay as it were the likeness of a bird by My permission, and didst blow upon it and it was a bird by My permission, and thou didst heal him who was born blind and the leper by My permission; and how thou didst raise the dead by My permission; and how I restrained the Children of Israel from (harming) thee when thou camest unto them with clear proofs, and those of them who disbelieved exclaimed: This is naught else than mere magic;
      [5:111]
      And when I inspired the disciples, (saying): Believe in Me and in My messenger, they said: We believe. Bear witness that we have surrendered (unto Thee) "we are muslims".
      [5:112]
      When the disciples said: O Jesus, son of Mary! Is thy Lord able to send down for us a table spread with food from heaven ? He said: Observe your duty to Allah, if ye are true believers.
      [5:113]
      (They said:) We wish to eat thereof, that we may satisfy our hearts and know that thou hast spoken truth to us, and that thereof we may be witnesses.
      [5:114]
      Jesus, son of Mary, said: O Allah, Lord of us! Send down for us a table spread with food from heaven, that it may be a feast for us, for the first of us and for the last of us, and a sign from Thee. Give us sustenance, for Thou art the Best of Sustainers.
      [5:115]
      Allah said: Lo! I send it down for you. And whoso disbelieveth of you afterward, him surely will I punish with a punishment wherewith I have not punished any of (My) creatures.
      [5:116]
      And when Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! Didst thou say unto mankind: Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah ? he saith: Be glorified! It was not mine to utter that to which I had no right. If I used to say it, then Thou knewest it. Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy Mind. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower of Things Hidden ?
      [5:117]
      I spake unto them only that which Thou commandedst me, (saying): Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. I was a witness of them while I dwelt among them, and when Thou tookest me Thou wast the Watcher over them. Thou art Witness over all things.
      [5:118]
      If Thou punish them, lo! they are Thy slaves, and if Thou forgive them (lo! they are Thy slaves). Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Mighty, the Wise.
      [5:119]
      Allah saith: This is a day in which their truthfulness profiteth the truthful, for theirs are Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they are secure for ever, Allah taking pleasure in them and they in Him. That is the great triumph.
      [5:120]
      Unto Allah belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is therein, and He is Able to do all things.

      Tell him he stole his theology from wiccans who thought it wasn't cool to pretend to be Sabrina the Teenage Witch so they looked up some old names of holidays without any information about the actual practices of them since Christians supplanted those religions in Europe by the 10th century and no one bothered to actually write down what those people actually belived, so the people he learned it from made up a bunch of stuff in the 70's and 80's, pretended it was old and that they are totally not new agers with an inferiority complex. Before I came to Christ and the one true God I was into that stuff. Can't claim Christians stole their holiday when their "religion" isn't older than the wannabe 50's Harry Potters. Not everyone in the world calls it "easter" or something similar, nor do they connect it with rabbits or eggs, so unless you think English speaking people "invented" this whole Christianity thing I don't know what these people are trying to argue by saying that Easter sounds kinda similar to Ishtar.

    If the name for Easter really comes from a Germanic pagan deity, whether Ishtar or Eostre (whom we only have one speculative source for), then why were Christians celebrating Easter centuries before they ever came into contact with said Germanic pagans? And besides, It's only called "Easter" in English and "Oster" in German. In nearly every other major European language, the name for the holiday is derived from the word for Passover.

    • @toomanymarys7355
      @toomanymarys7355 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it doesn't. There is no evidence there ever was an Eostre goddess, NOR WAS IT A HOLIDAY; Eostre was the name of the lunar month in which Easter always fell. Eostre and its cognates means "east/dawn" in ancient germanic languages. It was the month in which the dawn came earlier in the day. It's POSSIBLE there was a goddess called 'dawn,' but if so, she was utterly insignificant and leaves no mark on history. None of the other months have names of gods, so why would that one? Get a grip.
      Christians were celebrating the Resurrection, which came to be called Easter after germanic people were converted in those languages, long before they were converted and before it had an English name.

    "Easter" comes from the word "East" as the corresponding German word "Osten" comes from the word "Ost". The words "East" and "Ost" meant "dawn", "sunrise" or "morning" which is why we call the easternly direction "East". The Saxon calendar being derived from the Germanic Calendar had the month "Easturmonath" which was the month of April in which we celebrate Easter. The months of these calendars were named after characteristics of the month. April comes around the time of spring which could be considered the morning of the seasons and is the time at which the days begin to become noticeably longer. Jesus rose early Sunday morning so the rising sun in the east can remind us of Christ who arose on that first Easter morning. Also early Christians writings trace the origin of the practice of the celebration of "the Saviours Pascha" to the apostles themselves and celebrating it was not controversial until many years years after the controversy they had about when to celebrate. So when the word "Easter" is seen in Acts 12:4 in the King James Bible, which by the way is the only time in the New Testament that the word "Pascha" is used in a post resurrection context, we can acknowledge that it is not an error. The fact that the days of unleavened bread are pointed out indicates that the Christian "Pascha" was being referred to, which occurred at that timek and not the Jewish Pascha. Also the pagan goddess "Eostre" was named after the month of Easturmonath, not the other way around. The King James Bible is without error and Easter is not a pagan holiday.

    • @sffsf81

      You are right that Easter is not a pagan holiday, but if you read Acts 12: 4 in context, it is clearly referring to a Jewish holiday, not a Christian one.

    • @sffsf81
      @sffsf81 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hotwax9376 They are not "jewish holidays", they are our holidays.
      Day of unleaven bread, passover(pascha) > easter bunnies and all other nonsense, traditions of men
      PS: God hates the christmas tree and will burn people in hell forever over it.

    • @andrhof01
      @andrhof01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hotwax9376 It does not clearly refer to the Jewish Passover, but Christians and Jews were both in Jerusalem during the time of their respective festivities. Herod was concerned about a riot occurring if he executed Peter during the time of these celebrations. And there would not be much of a point of mentioning the days of unleavened bread unless it was referring to the Christian “pascha” that occurred during the days of unleavened bread which was Easter.
      This is undoubtedly what the King James translators had in mind when they retained the word “Easter” in this passage, when completing the translation effort begun by Erasmus and Tyndale.
      It is very interesting that this one place in the New Testament is the only place where the word is used in a post resurrection context and that it is the one place that the translators chose to render the word as “Easter”.
