@@Gunga_FAB.50 I’m prior service so I live separately from the guys coming from boot camp, but we take classes together, the first 6 weeks you will take the civilian EMT course and get nationally certified as an EMT after that you will do the military version which is a little different called TCCC just make sure you’re studying a little every night and you’ll be fine
If I get put in a hospital I’ll be heart broken
Ask for a light infantry unit and the chances of you being a line medic will be higher.

You'd be surprised how little medical training you'll get in an infantry unit compared to a hospital. Make the most of where you end up.

My daddy did this for 17 years in the florida national guard..
.4 years active duty as field artillery prior to that.

Yeah, like I said he was in the Florida national guard for the majority of his time in.. he was activated alot during hurricanes and stuff.. but as far as actually deploying, only once.. it was a long deployment. . 18months, if I'm remembering it right. He got out a few months or so later. His unit did deploy again though..
We called it 91W back in my time....guess that makes me a fossil!! 😂😂👌👌
I was a 91W when I graduated from AIT. A year later, they transitioned us all to 68 series. Yeah, we're old.

Wish I could get this level of training for a civilian. I plan to go into my local county San Francisco Fire Department TEMS team. Eventually. Working on medic first. Already an EMT at a private 911 ambulance company.

Its not as hard as your drill sergeants will make it sound, but you definitely have to put in the work…thats usually just with the NREMT tho

@@xykane it’s not a good career unless you go green to gold. Most service members live paycheck to paycheck.
10 year medic here. Bought a house and live comfortably. You can definitely have a good career being enlisted. Also, it's never a bad thing to want to do more and get your commision.
Current paramedic student interested in joining the reserves. Take a look at Maryland aviation command. It’s my dream job. Flight paramedics while also being a state trooper for the state of Maryland. Can’t get much cooler than that on the civilian side.

Called my local recruiter to see how much of AIT a Nationally Registered Paramedic with FP-C and TCCC would be able to skip to streamline into a 68WF2 slot. He said none. What?....
You'll end up skipping the first 8 weeks of AIT and go straight to TCCC. The flight slot might not be available right away unless you have connections. But dropping a packet is too easy.
The most common thing I used and gave to soldiers when i was a 68w was fucking motrin lol

Don’t worry you won’t be doing any of this “cool” stuff at your unit
Everything is unit dependant. If you want to do cool things, then you need to go to cool units. The best way to get there is by getting an ASI or dropping some school packets.
Yeeeah, as you probably know, funding is garbage- even for line units unless you're they special boys. The MSTC and pre-mob are really the only places where you get to play with the expensive toys.
Wait until you’re in combat and real casualties need to be treated; you’ll be doing plenty of “cool stuff” trust me. 2 year-long Iraq deployments between 2006 and 2009 with the infantry wasn’t constant combat, but when it was, I was busy.
