@@senko147the legendary va loan is one of the few things you are entitled to. Depending on the price of the house and a few other factors, you might be able to buy a house with low interest, and zero down. Depending on your rate, you can get certain qualifications that are desirable by companies in the civilian world. Top those qualifications on your time (experience) doing that particular job, and you'll find a well paying job after you get out easily. Only about half of your income is taxable. The money you get from basic housing allowance, food allowancd, and other auxiliary pays (depending on your job; i.e. sea pay, hazardous pay, etc) are non-taxable. Depending on the state, they may not even tax your taxable income portion as well. So on paper, you perhaps won't make as much as you'd like, but if you play your cards right, in practice, you should be able to make decent money.

1977 to 1981. I loved the video, brought back some memories even from my time in, oh so long ago:
    1) Home sickness was the biggest enemy for most (me included)... it was the leverage they used everyday.. as you progress further you gain confidence and they begin to lose their leverage.
    2) Don't let the Navy get you in shape and by all means, don't let the Navy teach you to swim!!!
    3) It will be an experience your friends from high school who didn't serve will miss and you will remember and cherish for the rest of your life.
    4) in my 4 short years, I witnessed Boot camp, "A -School", my first ship, a shipyard overhaul, Guantanamo Bay, a Med Cruise, a second ship, hometown recruiting duty, 6 months of Shore Patrol and 18 months on a submarine base Scotland and along the way I visited a dozen different countries.
    5) So who comes out better prepared for life? Some kid with with a worthless degree and a massive student loan or a veteran of military service who was a part of something bigger than themselves, trained to adapt, to work as a team and the meaning of respect and honor?
    6) I retired as a plant manager, debt free @ 55 ahead of all my friends. (life skills learned)

Orlando Florida was home for my Navy boot camp experience. It was August 1974. I was very athletic in high school and honestly boot camp just wasn't physically that difficult. It was much more a mental exercise than a physical one. They keep you busy all day every day so that passes the time. All in all a good experience. I’ve been in the navy for now a year and a half went through bootcamp last July. Some advice for ppl going to recruitment centers and now looking up navy bootcamp. It’s hard and requires sacrifice every step of the way, be ready to be out under stress and to perform under pressure. The hardest part of bootcamp is being mentally open to having no limit. Never give yourself a limit, not in bootcamp not in the fleet and even if you fail out don’t give yourself a limit. Always rise to the occasion.

I'm glad you made it. I feel that even if you did get sent home, the nice thing about bootcamp is that you learn so much discipline that even if the military isn't for you, you're definitely going to come home a better and stronger person unless you're just COMPLETELY off the moon (there for the absolute wrong reason, like the twins seemed to be). I have lots of respect for those who went through it.

This was my division. Not my most pleasant memories, but certainly not the worst thing I’ve ever done. The camera guys were NOT cool. They were always asking for more footage of us getting beat.

To anyone looking to join or waiting to get shipped off. Boot camp is the easiest part of your navy career, it’s hard as hell for the first couple weeks because it’s a culture shock, you’ll question the decision you’ve made and if you should’ve just stayed back home. But after a couple weeks you get used to it, and get acclimated to the environment it gets a helluva lot easier. My tips to y’all would be
    1. Listen to the instruction your RDC’s give you, they tell you everything you need to do for every task you’re given, all you need to do is execute
    2. Trick yourself into thinking it’s fun, you’re not going to want to do everything they tell you to, but you just need to stay positive and make yourself enjoy the training
    3. Always remember why you’re there and what got you to the point you’ve made it to
Just remember there’ll be good days and there’ll be bad days, keep pushing through, never get complacent, just keep learning and growing as an individual. I didn’t study a damn thing before I shipped off, I learned my general orders and chain of command when I got there (study all that good stuff, don’t be like me lmao) but I mentioned that so you know that I went there unprepared mentally and physically and still pushed through, y’all can do it to. Good luck to anyone who’s thinking of joining and anyone who’s soon to be shipped off.
    HOOYAH NAVY!

Best advice for making it through. WORK TOGETHER!! Don’t let the RDCs get to you mentally. You are way stronger than you could ever imagine. You are a division of many different backgrounds and breeds. Use that to your advantage!!

I am going to start a new genre of music, it's called boot camp. It involves percussion music and yelling.
