@@thememe-inator532 Not really. I don't think any military members are inherently bad people, I think for whatever reason you do the job it requires bravery to do. But to say they defend our country is just false. In rare cases they probably perform actions that we don't know about that keep us safe, and the dissuasion they cause just by existing is protecting us. But in practically every case the military is just a tool for the government and corporations to make money. Seriously, look into the reasons behind every war we've been in after WWII. The only people claiming it's "to defend America" are the politicians trying to deceive the population so they support it. What they do once they actually wage war is quite telling.

Adam talked about being able to use words for his emotions from his acting. I think that explains why he plays Kylo so well. The better he can channel his own experience into a role the better, and that angry desire to do something shows.

Jebalita BattleBush actually, I think the whole of the cast did the best they could. That's the thing with Star Wars. It's the writing that's bad, and the actors have to make do.
Actually there is someone more intelligent that you can talk to everyday. Is called God. The Bible that Jesus learned and taught from is a good place to start. I would recommend to start with the gospel of John--------th-cam.com/video/HxH64N0m5hM/w-d-xo.html I gave you this version of the Bible because is the one chosen by Congress to be part of the National Recording Registry (NRR) which picks the best recordings of the century to be preserved. Alexander Scourby was a trained Shakespearean actor chosen to do this his masterpiece recording. Once you start listening you'll know why Congress chose this particular Bible and Alexander Scourby as the Best of the Best. Another tip is that you can surf the net and even listen to your favorite music all while listening to this Bible in background. That's another reason why this is the best audio Bible(and I don't agree with Government on everything, except on this choice for the NRR)since it has no music, only voice. Just play with the background volumes and you'll soon find out how to play your favorite music and spoken word videos at the same time. Enjoy!
He’s so human. Listening to him speak, even though he’s quite eloquent, you can still hear the nerves in his voice. Like you’re going to cry, not because of fear or sadness, but just from the intensity of the moment. I felt the same way the first time I spoke to the owners of a rather neglected guinea pig- not as a bystander, but as a veterinary assistant who could actually help the little guy out. The more I see of Adam the more I relate to him. What a fascinating guy.
I love how public opinion on Adam Driver has COMPLETELY turned around after "The Force Awakens". It went from "LMAO, this weirdo is supposed to be Han Solo's son?" to "He's seriously badass and the best actor of his generation". Funnily, Keanu Reeves and Joaquin Phoenix went through similar arcs. For Keanu, people went from "Oh, it's the guy from Matrix who is always sad!" to "KEANU IS THE MOST PRECIOUS AND MUST BE PROTECTED BY ALL MEANS!", while for Joaquin, people went from ".... who? Ah, the Gladiator dude" to "JOKER WAS THE GREATEST PERFORMANCE EVER, JOAQUIN IS THE BEST ACTOR EVER!". The Internet sure loves introverted actors.
Jesse Montgomery damn, man. Adam was only 17. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t joining the Marines Corps with intention to pillage the Middle East. That also isn’t related in any way to his acting prowess, which is certainly impressive.
Incog2k6 I don’t think people like introverts. I think people like actors that are humble even though they have it all. There is something about modesty that is honest and grounding when you see it in people that are normally not. Yes the acting is good as well on all these guys, I agree.
I really came to appreciate Adam Driver, not only for learning his background, but his inviting a friend to perform that piece. Good selection, great performance, and it is interesting that he let a friend do it instead of himself. Lots of respect for tons of reasons.
As a Marine, it’s interesting to hear Adam talk about his time in, virtually all former Marines talk nearly the same way; we talk about our units, the people we met, the culture, the mundane things like acronyms and safety briefs. Adam’s introduction is littered with Marine verbiage that most people who haven’t been in wouldn’t even pick up. He was part of that brotherhood, and it’s awesome to see him apply what he learned to acting. Semper Fi Adam!
Wow, I didn't know he was a marine. Awesome story and a great way for other marines, soldiers, sailors, and air force personnel to overcome trauma. Sometime the call to duty is different than what we envision. This is awesome! Semper Fi!
Adam's organization is so effective that it is on standby to be called in when a base needs a morale boost. He doesn't call it therapy but it's pretty obvious it works that way.
This is a very private and anxious guy giving a great speech about something he is truly passionate about. Loved every minute of this, and very much the play reading with trums. Fantastic!
As an Army vet, I completely get this. While my career has been in education, that depression and loss of purpose after entering the civilian world. Good story!
Completely feel the same way. My entire identity from 17 years old when I went in 1987 and retired 2010. Still living, but the purpose is a bit chaotic out here.
Same. I joined at 17 and spent the first six years of my adult life in the military and when I got out due to a back injury I felt like I lost my purpose. The hardest part of serving, and specifically deploying, is coming home and adjusting to normalcy again. It’s a whole different world and it’s hard to explain to people who were never in it
My cousin is experiencing this. He was severely injured in Afghanistan. So not only does he feel lost, but he feels his body failing him too. He said he feels nostalgia and regret in equal measure. The PTSD from his injury & also some awful things he witnessed mixed in with it.
@@rickykaka7220 my interpretation is that it was all from the perspective of a young guy whose father was murdered. That young guy is wishing he was Batman and imagining how things would have gone differently if he was.

@@pouyanpiano that's another way of looking at it, I suppose. I saw it more as it being from the perspective of a child who was wishing they were there and had the power the stop what really happened. I couldn't picture someone who actually had the ability to save their dad in that situation then going onto replay the events in their mind but imagining themselves as Batman. The fact that they're imagining themselves as Batman suggests a childlike mind - or at least someone who hasn't reached full maturity - meaning they wouldn't have the physical capability to do those things. I think if he HAD actually saved his dad in real life, he'd feel like a hero already and wouldn't need to pretend to be one. The fact that he's pretending he's Batman gives the impression that he (the boy) wouldn't be capable of handling the situation himself, so he imagines himself as a figure who would be able to handle it instead.
As an ARMY Infantry disabled from combat veteran I thank this man for his service. Iraq ruined my life so as a soldier I am sorry you didn't get to deploy, but as a human being... THANK GOD! because youre that typical egotistical type of human who always judges everyone by their looks.
Alfredo J That's actually human nature. We judge based on looks because we want to have the best offspring. Men tend to be attached to big boobs cause it shows the ability to breastfeed a child. The modern stigma was created based off that. Men look for wide hips because it shows a woman's ability to bear children. It's primal nature to judge based on looks.
Tyler Griffin That's on the money wow!
I love this so much. I could hear him talk about his life forever. He’s so articulate.
One thing a lot of people forget about Adam Driver is how funny he is. Even in just a talk like this he manages to keep stories that are clearly very depressing parts of his life lighthearted by sprinkling in humor, but without taking away the seriousness of what he’s discussing.
When he starts talking about the Marines, he speeds up and talks louder. It's his passion.

@Migfra Danmark alright when the hajis attack you can be frontlines and the marines can stay back and hide on a keyboard

Jebalita BattleBush actually, I think the whole of the cast did the best they could. That's the thing with Star Wars. It's the writing that's bad, and the actors have to make do.

What a treat to hear Adam Driver speak of his own experiences. But then the monologue.....simply amazing
He’s so sharp and in tune with what life is. His wife is so lucky. I only wish I could talk to someone so intelligent daily. Good dude.
Actually there is someone more intelligent that you can talk to everyday. Is called God. The Bible that Jesus learned and taught from is a good place to start. I would recommend to start with the gospel of John--------th-cam.com/video/HxH64N0m5hM/w-d-xo.html
I gave you this version of the Bible because is the one chosen by Congress to be part of the National Recording Registry (NRR) which picks the best recordings of the century to be preserved.

I felt the same way the first time I spoke to the owners of a rather neglected guinea pig- not as a bystander, but as a veterinary assistant who could actually help the little guy out. The more I see of Adam the more I relate to him. What a fascinating guy.
this was way more interesting than I expected
What an intelligent and well spoken person. I'm happy for the successes he has had!
Jesse Montgomery maybe Marriage Story?
@Jesse Montgomery the report
Jesse Montgomery damn, man. Adam was only 17. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t joining the Marines Corps with intention to pillage the Middle East. That also isn’t related in any way to his acting prowess, which is certainly impressive.
Joaquin stole Adams Oscar. Periodt.
Incog2k6 I don’t think people like introverts. I think people like actors that are humble even though they have it all. There is something about modesty that is honest and grounding when you see it in people that are normally not. Yes the acting is good as well on all these guys, I agree.
Adam's ted talk is one of the ones I always come back to to listen. I wish he had a podcast
He's so quirky, unconventionally attractive, and intelligent. I didn't know he was from Indiana!
Thatonetribute Any famous Hoosier does not speak of their roots for nothing interesting ever happens there XD

Hoorah
It’s a whole different world and it’s hard to explain to people who were never in it
Same-12 yrs in NAV and med boarded out...spinning wheels trying to find my purpose...still looking...
Yep. I've been struggling with it since I got out in 2014
My cousin is experiencing this. He was severely injured in Afghanistan. So not only does he feel lost, but he feels his body failing him too. He said he feels nostalgia and regret in equal measure. The PTSD from his injury & also some awful things he witnessed mixed in with it.
Why is nobody talking about the reading at the end. It was so powerful
Agree.
Can someone explain me the ending of the reading? I wanna know peoples' interpretations
@@rickykaka7220 my interpretation is that it was all from the perspective of a young guy whose father was murdered. That young guy is wishing he was Batman and imagining how things would have gone differently if he was.
@@loobkoob How did you understand that his father was murdered ? ... Up until I read your comment I thought the guy really saved his dad. As a Batman in his head, but in real life, as someone who followed his dad cause he was aware of his dad's addiction. No ?
That rah. He's a Marine through and through. Semper Fi brother. Thrilled you found success and appreciation in life
