35 series here, pre airborne school and pre RASP is heavily 'advertised' while in AIT. If you're up for the challenge the opportunity is definitely there if you didn't get the option 40.
I’m currently awaiting MEPS and hoping to sign an option 40, I’ve had differing opinions on being able to volunteer in OSUT if I wasn’t able to secure an option 40. If they won’t let me sign an option 40 due to a medical waiver, will they let me volunteer in OSUT?
@@Jstaylor679 Yes, every OSUT and AIT will have a 75th and airborne volunteer program. I don't know how OSUT does it but most entry level volunteers do pre rasp PT to help you get more prepped. I don't think a medical waiver would stop you from getting an option 40 though.
I'm prior service myself, and decided if I ever went back in I would go to the regiment. And after watching this, it gave me a lot of hope. While I was in the big army in 2015 I self selected, and didn't think I would make it. But after watching this, boy lemme tell you, it really changed my view and gave me a lot of hope.
Graduated OSUT this past December. SF liaison showed up, Ranger liaison did not. Even though my senior Drill SGT specifically reached out to them bc there were a lot of us trying to secure an option 40 contract, never happened. From my recent personal experience, if you really want an option 40 contract, don’t go to OSUT without one. You might have to wait a little bit longer but it will save you the frustration.
A person can always apply by reaching out to 75recruit@socom.mil or call 706.545.5124. You don’t need an option 40 and there’s nothing that should stop someone who wants it bad enough.
When I went through 36b financial management AIT a year ago, I had an e6 in my AIT that was re-classing from field wireman to financial manager and then headed to special forces training (he was airborne before he came into AIT).
59:54 - there are three things ... Ranger slots (also known as "Golf" slots) ... each IN unit has G slots where they can send their squad leaders to Ranger school ... Ranger tabs ... where a person has attended Ranger School and are "Ranger qualified" ... and there is the scroll, with or without the tab, which means a soldier is actually a Ranger, serving in Regiment.
I'm shipping out with a 68W Option 4 contract on September 11th with the intention of putting a packet in for RASP 1 at Airborne School while at Ft Moore. I've been getting pretty nervous about RASP and whether I'll meet the physical requirements, but after talking to someone with my same MOS who is already in the Regiment and watching this video, I feel so much better about it. I can't wait to go and I'm nervous, but this video was very reassuring. Thank you
@@MilkAndSpaghetti I was lucky and they just had one first try. Make sure you have your recruiter look in their system for the contract you want before you go to MEPS. For me at least, they were able to reserve the contract and I just had to set a concrete date for when I would go to MEPS and swear in and stuff. If I didn't go to MEPS within like a week of when I was supposed to I would've been barred from reserving another contract I think
@@EckRD I was in holdunder status at AIT for about a month (graduated basic Nov 30) and started class January 4th. I'm currently about 4 weeks into EMT phase of AIT and have 12-13 left until I graduate. Not sure when Airborne will be, but I've heard there has been at least a 1-2 month delay for other people at my AIT so I expect to be a holdover until at least May, maybe June. Unfortunately there aren't RASP liasons at FSH, otherwise I would've put in a packet as soon as possible. I'm still going to try at Airborne, though. I'll be pretty bummed if I don't get the opportunity to go to selection, but at the bare minimum I should still be wearing a red beret by the end of 2024

Went to RIP, 1st Bat August 1981, most quit. You always have that choice. RIP weeded out the poseurs, when you shipped to the company that’s when you got really schooled. Sometimes it could be very rough, depends on the platoon and the company.
In Louisiana 496 hours of training to be a deputy, 500 hours training to braid hair, manicurist 500 hours, esthetician 750 hours, cosmetologist 1500 hours. Maybe training and education especially in de-escalation and some extended psycohological screening might prevent these situations.
Shouldn’t the success rate for volunteers for rasp out of AIT and option 40 be the same. I’m under the impression that after basic you head to AIT and then pre rasp, rasp.
It’s primarily due to many of the individuals who volunteer prior to enlistment then change their mind, whereas those who decide while in OSUT have a higher rate of success. It’s a comparative analysis between two modalities - pre enlistment and post enlistment.
So I was 605lbs… started wanting to make a change for my life! Down to 450lbs in 10 months and still pushing harder to finish getting this weight off. My motivation is of course my health for my family and kids, but also because I’m 35 and I regret not having joined when I was 18. Now I that is all I can think of is losing and joining. My question is, once I am down to weight. Can I still get to Rangers? At my age and having been this heavy, everyone is saying that I have destroyed my body and that main Army is one thing, but my dream of being a Ranger is gone! At this point I am willing to push to body failure, I don’t care. I just can’t live with regret of knowing that I never tried!
You will not pass medical at this time due to your body composition bmi at 450lbs down from 605 as you have stated. keep working to build your health, lose weight for your health first, even getting the chance for army itself is an honorable duty to strive for and perhaps with more weight loss that could be a possibility if no other medical conditions persist but bmi is a calculated percentage via medical screens

I knew then I have to make my way there. Just trying to learn process coming in as a NCO no tab prior service transfer.

They look at an individuals entire record and make a determination as to whether they need a persons MOS at that time and whether they want the soldier to assess. It’s still their decision at the end of the day. Waiverable doesn’t mean a guarantee.
In my day it was Battalion. 1st and 2nd. Less slots, higher standards, a hell of a lot harder to get into. I'm 59 now and can accomplish all the physical tests above minimum standards. WTH
My son was the skinny kid with no quit. He runs 5 miles in 30.7 He exceeds PT standard. He’s packed on 30 lbs of muscle. He’s not found anything difficult so far. Don’t count the skinny guys out.

A deputy is publicly funded. Every other training program you referenced is private sector. Taxpayer funded stuff is generally on the cheap.

What if you go through OSUT But your ASVAB score isn't high enough, will they help you to retake the test?
GT is one component within the overall ASVAB. There is a minimum score requirement of 105, but it’s waiverable.
