Obviously take this with a grain of salt. Go reserves if you want to get the benefits of serving while keeping your civilian life. That’s what I chose and I found it to be the perfect blend of military and civilian life. I’m fairly young, went in at 23 yrs old, and the biggest challenge throughout training was the age difference. I caught the end of the “summer rush” so a lot of my platoon members were 18-19 yrs old. Don’t let that be a deterrent, it was really humbling getting treated the same way as they did, even though you have more life experience. Do online research on the jobs you want in the army. DONT let a recruiter strong arm you into something you don’t want. ITS NOT WORTH IT

I went thru basic training and AIT from February to August back in 1989 at Fort Knox KY….63E10 H8… M1A1 Tank Engine Mechanic and Tank Recovery Specialist.
I had a blast in basic, loved the PT, confidence course, marksmanship, the D&C (drill and ceremony) with cadence songs and everything……the only thing I didn’t like was the gas chamber.
To those going to basic or those thinking about joining the army just remember basic training is a mental game and it’s basically you against yourself (the old you vs the new soldier you)……….the only motivation you’ll need to get thru basic is this, either you fight thru and make it to graduation or have the constant daily reminder of your friends teasing and taunting and laughing at you that you couldn’t make it thru basic training etc etc…..

My son leaves for basic training tomorrow. I’m so proud of him, but also so nervous. 😟
BCT is 80% mental and 20% physical. You can be as fit as an Olympic athlete and still fold. You have to tell yourself you can because there are those who will tell you you can’t. You will feel alone, but as long as you have a good support system back home and faith (if you believe) you’ll get through it. Remember BCT is only two months out of your life.
I dont regret it. Glad I enlisted.

Any advice for a 27 year old mom who is thinking about joining? I have a previous law enforcement background but the academy I went to was at a college and did not break me of my old ways, in addition I was 18 when I went and very immature. I am now in social worker but every day I come to work I feel like something is missing in my career. I long for the discipline, and more so a better view on how I view myself. I want to join but I am fearful of the time away from my children and quite frankly leaving my comfort zone of a small town.
ITS NOT WORTH IT
Need army basketball team, Marines, air Force
What if you don’t have anyone to come to ur graduation
You got your battle buddies if that's what the army calls them I'm in the air force but for my bmt I had no one come so my wingman were there you will grow a strong bond it's the worst fun time and memorable moments that you will make
