The Nexara Harvest Prt 1

  • The thumbnail pic is to remind everyone of how far we have come with this Nexara canola this year... The excessive amounts of rain in the spring resulted us in seeding directly into the grass. Remember it takes a couple years to get the land fully reclaimed and reestablished.

    Mike I thought you understand combines lol if you would you would know the key to a cleaner canola sample is slow your rotor down. You are overloading ur sieve. Since u have next to no rotor loss you can easily go too 450-500 rotor speed. And you need some wind to separate the canola from chaff at least 720 rpm

    I run my feed accelerator in low all the time. A JD tech who also farmed said you will still get your crop to the rotor plenty fast and your accelerator will have far more torque for tough conditions.

    Regarding the broken spindle:
    Hi Mike, I do not want to worry you, but the clean break is indicating to an faitgue failure. So the part did have too many hours on it. Furthemore the area of the diameter change is a prominent place fur such an failure. I hope they have a big radius in the Area of the diameter change on the new part.
    Maybe you should also check the other spindle for cracs at the same area or even make an crack spray test.
    Greeting from an german engeneer!

    Mike, the chaff is a good insulation,it always ends up on the walls of the bin and helps with condensation.
    Closing the sieve is a mistake, open them up and work with the fan speed , done this for 40 years and it works just fine .

    Ya totally agree on the year or two to get into full production. Cuz we had a bit of grassland on one of our fields last year because it was dry enough to seed from the drought. So we did the same thing as you and direct seeded wheat into grass there and it was some of our poorest yielding stuff which we didn’t have huge expectations on it anyways. But this year we had quite a wet year and got some canola in there and it was some of our best canola (probably averaged around 55 in that 15-20 acres) 😂 so ya it definitely takes a year.

    G'day Mike, spindles rarely just snap off square (transversly) across the axis, bit hard to tell as the images in the vid were not in focus but I suspect either a reverse bending fatigue with a seperate crack inetiating at the front and back of the spindle at a stress riser and propagating into the centre or a torsional shear fracture which would require the bearings in the roller to seize and stop it from rotating instantaniously. Either way understanding the failure mode allows you to get pro active with maintenance and inspection so your machinery lets you down less when you need it. 👍

  • @chelsea943
    @chelsea943 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think you should open your sieve and increase your fan with your sieves open more you can handle more wind. that little bit of chaff does not account for very much docage..

    There are 2 ways companies of GPS configure north south guidance lines. JD always used parallel lines which didn't follow the curvature of the Earth.
    Everyone else in the GPS world used curvature GPS lines.
    So you're swather was recorded with one style and your combine is running the other.
    That is why you are creeping off.

    • @tmlf1239
      @tmlf1239 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both the swather and the combine were using John Deere computers to do the guidance so they should be the same. But ultimately you're correct. John Deere traditionally used "BeeLine" guidance lines. Everyone else uses rectilinear grid lines. If I recall correctly the BeeLines are the curved lines (not parallel) in the north/south direction. Each north/south line points at and converges on the north pole. Whereas rectilinear lines are parallel, which means the farther east or west you are from the starting line they no longer point due north anymore. Rectilinear turns out to be the most useful for farming and can work in northern latitudes with less error. John Deere guidance can let you create guidance lines of either type these days so I suspect the swather is defaulting to one and the combine defaulting to the other. Note that this deviation will be worse the farther north you are. Where I farm I can hardly notice it over a couple of miles in the north/south direction.
      I remember there was a time when AutoFarm (later bought by AgLeader) used a rectilinear grid, but it based on UTM I think, and so depending on how far you were from the base meridian, 0 degrees would be quite far off of true north. I could tell that my neighbors rows were a couple degrees rotated from my John Deere (BeeLine) rows. A year or two later this was no longer the case so I assume AutoFarm updated the firmware to adjust for the offset. I do not know if they use UTM and adjust the grid rotation, or use some other similar algorithm. AgOpenGPS uses UTM but the rotation of the grid is adjusted with a heading offset at the beginning of every new field such that 0 degrees on the first pass is really true north.

    Oh Mike Mike Mike Mike! Simple simple simple simple. I'm the biggest stickler when it comes to loss and productivity. Please look at the bushel plus product typically it takes me a lot of "kill stahls" and hands and knees to get all of my combines to an acceptable loss and through put. But this year I bought a bushel plus system and wow there is no comparison on how my machines productivity and losses are and I did it in honestly less than 30 mins per machine. I am not a dealer or a spokesperson for them just a farmer in North east indiana who loves products that make me money! No need for a dealer do it do it yourself and better! I will tell you our losses running 50' macdon flex drapers in soybeans is less than .03 bushel at an average of 4.8mph
